Like all the PUMAs in the Democratic Party--mostly middle-aged white feminist women who had convinced themselves that a woman president would somehow be more morally fit and full of integrity and less vicious than anyone else...despite the evidence of Janet Reno (approving the )immolation of children at Waco) and former Secretary of State Madeline Albright (who with a straight-face declared the starvation and bombing of hundred of thousands of Iraqi children under U.S. sanctions was an "acceptable" cost in "collateral damage"). Just the fact of Hillary being a late middle-aged white woman identified with feminism in their minds (She is me!)automatically made her the best possible leader in their minds, despite her CIA snitching during college, her unscrupulous Arkansas business deals, etc., her war-mongering and cynical politicking (magically transformed in their minds into the always noble practice of "pragmatism" by dent of it being done by her rather than by some evil, old white man).
It's the same with the so-called middle-class "progressives" who make a million and one excuses for Obama because a Black man in the White House, especially one they voted for, allows them to identify themselves as somehow more enlightened and morally correct than those knuckle-dragging lower income crackers who don't trust the guy. They have to condone all his bloodshed, rationalize it away or pretend it isn't his fault because to do otherwise would require them to question their own, self-constructed (false) identity.
It's also the same for the many Black folks who are simply satisfied that someone--anyone--who looks like them is in the White House, and that the "looking like me" part is the most important thing, regardless of the man's lack of character, his habits of obsessive secrecy and misrepresentation, fear mongering, war-mongering and pathological lying. But, again, they can't "see" all these obvious moral flaws of the man that mark his unfitness for power because to see those things would mean they would have to stop identifying with him, which first would mean they would have to question their own false identity--which would require them to figure out exactly what components of what they perceive their identity as "Black" to mean are false--and to figure otu who they really are.

None of this stuff is new, it's just that identity politics is the universal political idol of today. You had a whole nation enslaved to identity politics under Hitler (we're the morally, intellectually, and genetically superior Aryans who somehow are always connived against by those evil other people) and under Stalin (we're morally and intellectually superior because we have the correct politics, the "science" of Marxist-Leninism! Oh, everyone is always conniving against us, too, because we're better than them! So anything we do is okay because we are better and, also, always the victim!). You also have it in present-day Israel (we're morally, spiritually, intellectually and genetically superior to everyone else because we have Torah and Talmud and a history of being abused so we have the right, as a nation, to abuse others--in fact it won't even be abuse if WE do it. The victimhood of our grandparents and great-grandparents makes us noble victims, too, and justifies any and all things our politicians do--because we're Jewish and so are they and that's what matters most).
There's a hundred flavors of it identity politcs in the U.S. and most of it is pathological self-and-other destructive bullshit, including the so-called patriot movement Alex Jones promotes.; Jul 28, 2011, 2:46:00 PM
