Who Is Better Educated?

Aisha Spaulding graduated high school in 2002.  She attended FIT in New York for 1 year.  She spent 3 months studying yoga in India.  She was a dancer on a Caribbean Cruise ship for 4 months.  She teaches bikram yoga and works in a raw food restaurant in Santa Monica. She plans to produce and distribute a line of Yoga instructional videos.
Lavinia Brooks graduated summa cum laude from Howard University in 2006. She went without work for 18 months. Her student loans were close to $42,000.  She took part in a Teach for America boot camp and now teaches special education in a D.C. charter school. She says she likes her job but is considering returning to school and studying marketing.

Aisha. She's found creative ways to enhance her education and will eventually market her talents by herself, while still maintaining a grasp of what she apparently loves doing...and looks good doing by the way.

Lavinia on the other hand is 42K in the hole and still hasn't learned her lesson yet...goin' back for more, huh? So when some marketing firm doesn't pick her up, she'll go for a third probably. Where's the passion in that?!!

Satta!

Lavinia is educated. Aisha knows herself.

An example of just one of the many differences between education and indoctrination.

Cheir are you married?

They are both educated - one to create the other to follow.

First give us your definition of "educated".

Cash Rulz said...

DMG, no one here can. Plus, this sample is taken out of context. Every college dropout doesn't find personal success or satisfaction. Every college graduate doesn't either.

The world doesn't deal with absolutes. Individuals have to do what's best suited for them. Some are more creative and some are more analytical. Giving examples which only suit your beliefs don't make your beliefs any more factual than the next.

RJ,

I agree with most of what you said. Without a definition of the word educated the original question cannot be asked.

Not a fair comparison.

Aisha is hot and therefore knows that she can always live a life of leisure because there will be plenty of men begging to support her if she can't make it on her own.

Lavinia knows that no man will ever get her back and so she has to pick a solid career path to support herself by herself. She has no other choice.

I hear you Down Diggy.

But I've got to challenge your assumption that Lavina has picked a "solid career path".

Teaching? Special Ed kids?

Working for the government?

During a depression?

Fat and unhealthy in her 20's?

Come on bruh ...

Lavinia has been led down a dead end street.

It's time for people to examine ALL assumptions.

Clap Clap Clap. This propaganda was hilarious, DV.

Skinny fine girl VS Fat girl with the lazy eye. The college debt is just the icing on the cake.

You regularly call attention to your lack of understanding, although you'll never admit it. I will continue to applaud when you spit that crack; and I will put up question marks when you just get to talkin shit. ??????

Teaching? Special ed kids? Yea, bruh. Why the question marks...

Denmark Vesey said...

lol.

That's cute Nate.

I see you still arguin' for the sake of agruin'.

Get cats like that through the spot on a regular basis.

But that's no problem.

It's fun sometimes.

Why the question marks?

I'm questioning 'Down Diggy's' assumption that teaching special ed kids while and working for a bankrupt government is a "solid career choice".

Now ... if you have some insight you'd like to add to explain why teaching special ed kids while and working for a bankrupt government IS a "solid career choice" ... all ears.

If not ... come back when you have a point.

Ladies call me cute often. I always have a point: Who determines what a solid career path is? You introduce what you think as the end all be all for black people. It's not. Maybe she defines a solid career path as a career in which she can impact young people in a positive way. I respect what you do, but how many young brothas do you think are reading this blog? When parents don't/can't do it, it's passionate educators who often are breaking these things down to them. I don't assume that every educator is passionate. I just know I am... and I spits that crack. I commend you for spitting it as well. I also will continue to put up ??? when you get to talkin shit. Simple point.

"Who determines what a solid career path is?" Nate

"Who" is not relevant.

"What" is the operative point Nate.

"What" determines a solid career path ... not "Who".

I submit that sustainability and empowerment is what makes a solid career path.

Lavinia is not a "teacher" ... she is a pedagogue employed by a bankrupt bureaucracy.

Like I said.

Unsustainable.

If Lavinia were teaching children privately ... teaching them things that would actually empower them ... instead of just teaching them to take standardized "tests" .. it would be a different story.

So ... You an educator Nate?

Good.

Stick around.

I'm a bit of an educator myself.

You might learn something.

Nate The Great said...

Yea, you don't get it. I'll stick around with my fingers crossed until I get bored with your condescending "deep" comments. Every interaction is a learning experience for both parties. Until you acknowledge that I will not acknowledge you as an educator, but a pimp. You know, they always have to maintain some imaginary level of dominance. They relate to you from above, never eye to eye. Hoes often think that's because they're powerful/intelligent/etc. Riiiight.

You pretending to son me is not only erroneous, it's unrealistic... even if you were as well versed as you think you are, my brotha.
