So...I made quinoa yesterday. The whole rinsing process was a pain, but: delicious in the end. So versatile, so good, and so easy to prepare!!

I was looking at the Quinoa selection at an Adventist store in Maryland, and I was repeating some of things Ive read about it on this blog. I actually got into a conversation about quinoa with some white Adventist chick! It was too funny, lol.

Ive purchased a package of organic quinoa for myself. I havent made any yet (I was busy cooking for others last week). Its the idea of rinsing thats kinda putting me off. Also I couldnt find any "raw" recipes for it either. Please post one of your wifes recipes!!
:)

The rinsing isn't difficult at all; get a large mason jar and some cheesecloth, put the quinoa in the jar, cover with water and drain through the cloth (secure it to the top of the jar with a rubber band or domething). Do that a couple of times...takes all of two minutes.

Check living-foods.com or a similiar site for recipes...or hit up Mrs. V.

Yo DV!!! Found like four different types of quinoa and stocked the cabinet with 'em; replaced all that funky pasta and rice we had with it. But can't find the Black African type. Any difference in taste or anything compared to the basic quinoa?

Big Ups Sasha!

You aint lyin'. It is delicious.

I heard it was easy to prepare. But I aint prepare none yet.

My wife rolling her eyes at me and calling me "triflin'" for "sitting around hungry when I could make it myself".

Told her, "baby everything taste better when you make it for me. If you can't fix it, I'd rather not eat."

She roll her eyes and smile.

(It's true though)

Lolaaaaaaaaaa!

You chattin' up little white girls in Adventist stores about Quinoa huh?

lol.

That's funny.

Let us know how you like after you get a chance to hook it up for yourself. I'll hit you up with a raw recipe ASAP.

D SMIFFFF!

What up Bra!

My wife says you right on the money. Rinsing is pretty easy.

She says her method is not as elaborate as yours. She throws it in a pasta strainer and runs it under the faucet for about 10 seconds.

Bra.

You warming my heart.

That is a BIG move.

That is a simpler, fresher, tastier, healthier, slimmer, smarter, less diabetic, better looking move.

Big Ups.

Wife says the Wild African quinoa has a nuttier flavor. It is a bit more grainy. The black quinoa is to white quinoa what brown rice is to white rice.

When she doesn't sprout her quinoa she cooks the white quinoa for about 10 minutes and the red quinoa and black quinoa for about 15 minutes.

I used a colander, but it wasn't fine enough so I was losing quinoa with the water. :-) I will have to pick up a better one. Cooked in about 10-15 minutes, threw in some sauteed veggies and balsamic vinaigrette. I brought in extra to work. My co-worker said "what is that?" (with the turned up face). 5 minutes later she said, "can I try it?" this was quickly followed up with "oh, that is good." :-)

"Every human being is the author of his own health and disease". I am enjoying changing my eating habits and trying healthy alternatives. I have no fear of the "kitchen" and watching the eyebrows of my family change from "I'm not eating that strange looking crap to "can I have some more". By the way bro nothing puts your woman in the "mood" better than a "bomb" meal prepared by her MAN. Keep recipes coming!!

Doc Love...I've been tryin' to tell brothers the same thing since '94! Sitting in a college apartment cookin' up dinner in the evening, roommates had jokes. But when the knock at the door came with two, three young ladies at a time, then the same cats wanna get salty. And I hold it down in the kitchen at least five nights a week now...wife has no complaints whatsoever!

DV... I had to share this link with you, cuz if your info is true (and I tend to believe it is) SOMEONE is telling lies... and I don't think their intentions are pure....

See, I dont have any cheesecloth in the house! Nor do I have any function jars (I have some decorative ones, yes theyre different, lol). Right now, I need to get a new blender for makign green smoothies. My 13 year old Cusinart is having issues and makes smoothies you have to chew, lol.

One of my neighbors calls troubled Black kids in the inner city "oodles of noodles eatin' kids," cause she remembers back to the time behavior changed when fresh food stopped getting prepared in homes...

Supersize Me contains a bit on the way fresh foods in the school lunch system almost totally eradicated poor behavior at a SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN WITH BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS.

I'm just sayin'...
