If You Eat This ... Even In Moderation ... You Will Get Fat, Get Diabetes and You Will Die.

I do not know what they put into the fast food and the processed foods, but I am CONVINCED that there are addictive substances in them.

The food is not good for us, we all know that, it doesn't taste all that great, yet many of us cannot stop consuming it.

I know nutritionist's have said sugar is addictive, I believe there are other ingredient's in processed foods that cause addiction as well.

Spoken like someone who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Yep, keep on blaming obesity, diabetes, HTN on some mysterious "additives", when the reason many black folks HAVE these illnesses are staring them in the fucking face. [And what ... exactly ... is that reason ... doctor?]

I don't like Popeyes, not a fan of fried chicken. I'm 42 very healthy same weight, and body fat percentage as when I was a healthy 25 year old. Shit, I'm eating Subway as I'm typing this.

Stop the stupidity please.

Allow the arrogant ignorance of the Plantation MD to serve as a lesson to us all.

Denying the causative relationship between processed food and diabetes is the moral and scientific equivalent of denying the causative relationship between cigarettes and lung cancer.

But if you notice ... the Plantation MD doesn't actually deny the connection. He just plays the role of the loyal Jigaboo by reflexively defending his Plantation Masters and by casting scorn on anyone who dares challenge the pharmaceutical and medical industrial complex's hegemony on knowledge.

"Pwahsessed Food Don't Cause No Diabeetays Until Massssa Say Pwahsessed Food Cause Diabeetays! Who dis Niggah Denmawk Vesey Dink He Izzz?!"

Fact is if black people turned their backs on this type of food the Plantation MD and his drug & surgery pushing employers would be out of business.

Subway and Popeyes keeps these corporate drug dealers flush with new customers.

They like to make you think you get diabetes because of your "genes" or you failed to eat the Fast Food poisons in "moderation".

The truth would put you in a position where you don't need quacks like this. Therefor the truth is treated like an enemy.

I hate to say it but I agree! I work in the ghetto and forgot my lunch a couple of times or was just too lazy to pack one and had to have KFC and honestly that place should be closed by the board of health. It literally tastes like death!

I agree with Joanna. In the past, I've had a hard time letting go of the fast food. Now that I eat more home cooked healthy meals,I feel much better. I read a book "Escape the Sickness Industry" by Elaine Hollingsworth and she too says that there are drugs in fast food to keep the people addicted.

The doctor just needs a little help in understanding this concept.

or maybe he should learn about "umami,"

Article:

"For years I wondered why I craved Doritos. I knew the Nacho Cheese powder, which coats your fingers in day-glo orange deliciousness, was one component, as were the fatty, salty chips that crackle and melt into a pleasing mass as you crunch them. I figured there was a dollop of nostalgia in the mix, but an ingredient was still missing in my understanding. Then I read a spate of articles about "umami," designated the fifth taste, along with sweet, sour, salty, and bitter, means "deliciousness" in Japanese and is described as "a meaty, savory, satisfying taste."

I knew some foods -- parmesan cheese, seaweed, shellfish, tomatoes, mushrooms and meats -- were high in umami-rich compounds such as glutamate, inosinate and guanylate. (Most people know umami from the much-maligned MSG, or mono sodium glutamate.) And I knew combining various sources of umami -- such as the bonito-flake and kombu-seaweed broth known as dashi, the foundational stock of Japanese cuisine -- magnified the effect and delivered a uniquely satisfying wallop of flavor.

What I didn't know was that "Nacho-cheese-flavor Doritos, which contain five separate forms of glutamate, may be even richer in umami than the finest kombu dashi (kelp stock) in Japan," according to a New York Times article from last year.

Mystery solved. Now I knew that whenever the Doritos bug bit me, I was jonesing for umami. I had to admit it: I am a junk food junkie and Frito-Lay is my pusher-man."

Last year, in the wake of the economic meltdown, KFC launched the "10 Dollar Challenge," inviting families to try to recreate a meal of seven pieces of fried chicken, four biscuits and a side for less than its asking price of 10 bucks. Of course this is a virtually impossible feat, apart from dumpster diving. But KFC isn’t hawking alfalfa sprouts and a plate of mashed yeast at that price. Witherly, in Why Humans Like Junk Food, writes that "high energy density food is associated with high food pleasure." The corporate food's revenue model is based on designing products oozing with fat, salt, sugar, umami and chemical flavors to turn us into addicts.

While food companies can trot willing doctors like DMG:), dieticians and nutritionists who claim that eating their brand of poison in moderation can be part of a balanced diet, the companies are like drug dealers who prey on junkies.

Sure, define "processed", because it is a vague term. Do you mean the process of preserving newly slaughtered animals to get from the farm to your table? Or do you mean the process of grinding up say beef? Or is there something more sinister you had in mind.

Now, I'm still waiting for Sasha to answer my question.

LAWDY!!!!

GET ON WITH IT DUDE:

DEFEND THIS-

Factory-farmed processed meats are grounded up, injected with salt, water, a multitude of flavorings and chemicals, reconstituted and often processed with extra fat (like the McNugget). Speaking to an expert in "sensory stimulation and food," explains how food is engineered to deliver pleasing flavors, aromatic and textural sensations and dissolve easily in the mouth.

In the past Americans typically chewed a mouthful of food 25 times (regular meats) before it was ready to be swallowed; now the average American chews only ten times when eating process meats. Even the bolus -- the wad of chewed food -- is designed to be smooth and even.

It's ADULT BABY FOOD that is why our doctor eats it so much (also because he is hooked on the yeast extract(msg AND OTHER UMAMI) in the food and just don't want to admit it.):)

Also by combining the process meat in specific concentrations you can create more addictions.

They are studies referencing studies with either humans or lab animals, they shows how varying concentrations and combinations of fat and sugar in these meats intensify neurochemicals, much the same way cocaine does.

Numerous restaurant chain foods in this process food world are nothing more than layers of fat, salt and sugar.

Experts in sensory stimulation explains, "Adding more fat gives more flavor and more salt.

As I sent out before in an article before, a McDonald's bacon, a presumably simple process meat product, lists 18 separate ingredients, including what appears to be six separate sources of umami.

LOL. Defend this Doc....

Look at the following ingredients in a 100% Angus Beef taken off Mickey d's website. Right in your face:

100% Angus Beef Patty:
Ingredients:
Angus beef, Grill Seasoning (salt, black pepper) and Angus Burger Seasoning: Salt, sugar, onion powder, natural (botanical source) and artificial flavors, maltodextrin, natural beef flavor [beef broth, yeast extract, maltodextrin, salt, lactic acid, natural flavor (plant source), beef fat, citric acid], spice, dextrose, autolyzed yeast extract, garlic powder, dried beef extract, sunflower oil, caramel color, worcestershire sauce powder [distilled vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, salt, caramel color, garlic powder, sugar, spices, tamarind, natural flavor (fruit source)], spice extractives, annatto and turmeric (color), calcium silicate and Soybean oil added to prevent caking.

Why you need corn syrup in your meat Bra?

THAT IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. END OF STORY. STOP PLAYIN.

Processed foods are produced using manufacturing methods that transform raw ingredients into packaged products that have extended shelf lives.

Typically ingredients like MSG, artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils, chemical preservatives, fillers, and artificial sweeteners are added.

Processed foods have little to no nutritional value. Most of it is wrapped in several layers of potentially leechy plastic, cardboard, or foil.

Processed foods are new to the human diet. They didn't exist until 1903 when the hydrogenation process was invented. Since the introduction of processed foods into the American diet there has been a corresponding increase in diet related diseases.

Processed foods are well funded by government subsidies and are disproportionately cheaper to consumers unsubsidized natural foods.

Examples of processed foods include breads, fast foods, lunch meat, milk, frozen foods, sodas, pastas, cereals, and crackers.

Processed meat is meat preserved by smoking, curing or salting, or with the addition of chemical preservatives.

Meats in this category included bacon, salami, sausages, hot dogs or processed deli or luncheon meats.

DMG,

Please explain what is right with "processed meats".

Waxhead,

Seriously dude, enough foaming at the mouth, and sit your mentally ill ass down for a moment. Please. Sane people are talking. If you think you are going to cough up blood and have a seizure from eating corn syrup don't eat it....but STFU. Instead of concentrating on the boogeyman of corn syrup maybe your ire would be better focused on the portions offered...and the supersize deals...but that's too easy.

Carol,

You haven't explained what's wrong with them first...like I asked. Now, your definition isn't entirely correct. Any meat that isn't consumed right after slaughter is "processed". What you gave me was really a bunch of nonsense, because humans have been "processing" their food in one way or another for millennia...or did you think humans went into hibernation in the Winter months? You tossed in (or wherever you got this from tossed in) MSG and a few other buzzwords for good measure (we've had discussions about mono-sodium glutamate before here, and not one of participants was able to prove any health risk).

My intent with my original query (as is with most of my posts) was to get you to define your terms more precisely. But instead you came back with a nonsense challenge.

You want to try again?

What's good about "processed" food? Well without some sort of processing of our foods, we likely wouldn't number in the Billions as we do now...and winter would suck.

If you want to discuss a particular type of processing...like say how hot dogs are made, come on. But please offer real documented reasons why there are health risks.

Will someone please help the Doc.

He knows what Carol is talking about, but pretends other wise. Lunchmeat-Hot dogs, sausage......etc., etc,Bra?

Nitrosomines are good for you Doc. Is that right?

Dude you are incredible!

Doc- tari, Quit trying to BS your way around the table in regards to nutrition. Any Doctor, sucking down a subway sandwich and singing it's praises should not be giving out advice on food.

It just ain't a good look.

Just fess up and admit that you are just hooked on the artificial taste manipulation via those sandwiches and that is why you eat it(not for nutrition and sustenance) and that there is no nutritional value in that Subway foot long.
