Other than the fact that they both have/had dark skin, I see no legitimate reason for the constant linking of Obama to MLK...as if Obama is the fulfillment of what MLK was about. No, MLK wasn't just about the United Colors of Beneton hand-holding happy fest the Controllers always direct us to see in him. He was also against the Military Industrial Complex, the imperialism and racism of the U.S. and its foreign policy, legitimately FOR the poor and downtrodden, and for honest faith in God (And this is despite all of his failings, including his philandering, grandstanding, and perhaps even the way his movement was manipulated).

Obama? He IS the Military Industrial Complex. Judge him by his actions. On that account, he's clearly FOR detaining people without trial, twisting and ignoring the Constitution whenever he sees fit, doing the bidding of the Corporations and the Pharmaceutical, Insurance and Oil Industries. He is FOR bombing the shit out of dark-skinned women and children using unmanned "drones" in Pakistan. And on and on and on. In fact, the only think TO connect him to MLK is skin color, which is a superficial connection. He is nowhere near an embodiment of MLK's "Dream," much less MLK's character. If anything, he's a counterfeit and betrayal of both.

Same way women were supposed to jump up and cheer like it was some sort of advance when Clinton made Janet Reno and Madeline Albright big wigs in his administration (the former going on to burn women and children at Waco and justify it by claiming their leader was abusing the kids; the latter publicly stating that the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children in Iraq under Clinton's policies was justifiable "collateral damage." But I guess everyone was supposed to light up a Cools and shout, "You've come along way, Baby!" just cuz these two monsters have ovaries. And if Hillary had won the election, we'd be asked to overlook the blood on her hands too simply because she has a vagina.)

There's my rant for the week. Time to manage my own backyard.

TODAY'S NEWS:

"Obama Scraps Iraq Withdrawal"

May 13, 2010

by David Swanson

So, we elected a president who promised a withdrawal from Iraq that he, or the generals who tell him what to do, is now further delaying. And, of course, the timetable he's now delaying was already a far cry from what he had promised as a candidate.

What are we to think? That may be sad news, but what could we have done differently? Surely it would have been worse to elect a president who did not promise to withdraw, right?

But there's a broader framework for this withdrawal or lack thereof, namely the SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement), the unconstitutional treaty that Bush and Maliki drew up without consulting the U.S. Senate. I was reminded of this on Tuesday when Obama and Karzai talked about a forthcoming document from the two of them and repeatedly expressed their eternal devotion to a long occupation."

I value the worth of the local television news INVESTIGATIVE REPORTERS over the present day CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT.

In Atlanta - the local CBS news station got the City of Atlanta to clean up illegal trash dumps that were throughout various Black community that the tired old Civil Rights operatives didn't do. They don't have any intention to EMBARRASS THEIR FRIENDS who are now in the seats of power over the government.

Due to their COMPROMISED state per their "Mission Accomplished" politically - the civil rights movement 2010 is less relevant to the challenges facing the Black community now more than ever before.

Swanson’s article is based on a Guardian article which says:

[The White House is likely to delay the withdrawal of the first large phase of combat troops from Iraq for at least a month after escalating bloodshed and political instability in the country.

The violence is seen as an attempt to intimidate all sides of the political spectrum and press home the message to the departing US forces that militancy remains a formidable foe.

Iraqi leaders remain adamant that combat troops should leave by the deadline. But they face the problem of not having enough troops to secure the country if the rejuvenated insurgency succeeds in sparking another lethal round of sectarian conflict.

Earlier this week, Allawi warned that the departing US troops had an obligation enshrined in the security agreement and at the United Nations Security Council to safeguard Iraq's democratic process. He warned of catastrophic consequences if the occupation ended with Iraq still politically unstable.]

Swanson’s article as I read it is more of an indictment of the impotency of the antiwar/peace movement than it is of the POTUS. Barack Obama, American politician par excellence, manages the American oligarchic psychopathocracy with executive powers which have been usurped from Congress by his predecessors.

Swanson is pleading for peace activists “to build a movement of war opponents (and advocates for spending on human needs and/or tax cuts) that can pressure the House of Representatives to cut off the funding for the wars.”

I don’t see that happening as long as The Perfect Proxy has a virtual monopoly on the minds of the progressive forces which helped to elect him. Progressives have an inordinate fear of the “Greater Evil,” which allows the more insidious crimes of the “Lesser Evil” to go unchallenged.

Mak are you referring to BO as the "Perfect Proxy"?

I feel you on that if so.

But elaborate on these people you refer to as "progressives".

Who are they?

What are their numbers?

What do they look like?

Would you consider you, me, Hot Wax or Kay Dub "progressives"?

Yes sir, I coined that term back in 2007.

But elaborate on these people you refer to as "progressives". -- DV

Since I'm referring to people who supported Barack Obama, the Wiki definition will suffice:

[Progressives tend to advocate a relatively centrist economic and left-wing social agenda.[1] Unifying issues among progressive Democrats include opposition to the War in Iraq, opposition to economic and social conservatism, opposition to heavy corporate influence in government, support for universal health care, revitalization of the national infrastructure and steering the Democratic Party in the direction of being a more forceful party. Compared to other factions of the party, they've been most critical of the Republican Party, and most supportive of direct government action as a means to establish social and economic equality.]

What do they look like? -- DV

[A recent study by the Pew Research Center found that a plurality, 41% resided in mass affluent households and 49% were college graduates. Progressive Democratic candidates for public office have had popular support as candidates in metropolitan areas outside the South, and among African-Americans nationwide.]

Would you consider you, me, Hot Wax or Kay Dub "progressives"?-- DV

Now why would you put the good sister KW in the mix with you and Wax? Just teasing brah man. DV, you are in your own category. I don't know what Wax believes besides conspiracy theories. As for the brilliant and beautiful KW, do I need to say anymore than that?
