Do You Have A Black Child With Asthma? Throw Away The Drugs - They Are Simply Vitamin D Deficient

J Pediatr. 2010 Jun; 156(6): 948-52. Epub 2010 Mar 16. High prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among inner-city African American youth with asthma in Washington, DC.

RESULTS: Blood samples were available for 85 (92%) cases. The prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency were significantly greater among cases than control subjects (73/85 [86%] vs 4/21 [19%], adjusted odds ratio = 42 [95% confidence interval: 4.4 to 399] for insufficiency and 46/85 [54%] vs 1/21 [5%], adjusted odds ratio = 20 [95% confidence interval: 1.4 to 272] for deficiency). CONCLUSIONS: Most of this sample of urban AA youth with persistent asthma were vitamin D deficient or insufficient. Given the emerging associations between low vitamin D levels and asthma, strong consideration should be given to routine vitamin D testing in urban AA youth, particularly those with asthma. So does this mean that lack of Vitamin D is CAUSING the asthma? Or that increasing intake of Vitamin D is even a treatment? Does the study imply either? Or is the study saying, "hey, if you got Asthma, you may want to check your D levels too". Beware the great leaps of logic when reading these "studies".

But, I'm not for this stupid, for-profit mass-drugging of our kids eitehr (no flu shots for mine and I dare somebody to tell me any of em are ADD and need meds), so I get your point.

But I like to drink a cold one some summer nights, which comes with a full bladder, but I aint gonna take a piss as a cure for a hangover.

JH.

I like your style.

Welcome to the spot.

The "study" don't really mean shit to me.

Most studies, ultimately, are funded / choreographed by the pharmaceutical companies anyway.

I just post it to fuug with Footnote Negros who can't grasp anything unless it appears to be validated by the Plantation (Scientific Dictatorship).

Fact is Vitamin D is key to many of our health woes. (Particularly black folks who spend an inordinate amount of time indoors without adequate exposure to the sun)

A Vitamin D sufficient population would cut into the profits of the ... uh ... "legal" drug dealers.

Therefor they're dragging their feet to validate it.

(Do you know how much money is made each year slanging 'asthma' drugs?)

I'm sorry, you got the wrong results. That's a "Plantation" journal.

Is Vitamin D deficiency causative or correlative?

If the former, how?

Helminthic therapy, a type of immunotherapy, is the treatment of autoimmune diseases and immune disorders by means of deliberate infestation with a helminth or with the ova of a helminth. Helminths are parasitic worms such as hookworms and whipworms. Helminthic therapy is currently being studied as a treatment for several (non-viral) auto-immune diseases including celiac disease,[1] Crohn's disease,[2][3][4][5] multiple sclerosis,[6] asthma,[7][8] and ulcerative colitis.[9] Autoimmune liver disease has also been demonstrated to be modulated by active helminth infections.[10]

In addition to these autoimmune disorders, interest is increasing regarding diseases that involve inflammation but that are not currently considered to include autoimmunity as a component. For example, heart disease and arteriosclerosis both have similar epidemiological profiles as autoimmune diseases and both involve inflammation, and their recent increase in incidence cannot be solely attributed to environmental factors according to a recent paper proposing the eradication of helminths as an explanation of this discrepancy.[11]

Helminthic therapy consists of the inoculation of the patient with specific parasitic intestinal nematodes (helminths). There are currently three closely related treatments available. Inoculation with Necator americanus,[12] commonly known as hookworms, or Trichuris suis ova,[13] commonly known as pig whipworm eggs, or inoculation with Trichuris trichiura ova,[12] commonly referred to as human whipworm eggs.

Helminthic therapy has emerged as one possible explanation for the low incidence of autoimmune diseases and allergies in less developed countries, together with the significant and sustained increase in autoimmune diseases in industrialized countries.[8][14][15][16] Current research and available therapy is targeted at, or available for, the treatment of Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis, asthma, eczema, dermatitis, hay fever and food allergies.

I don't know.

I don't want to know.

I simply take 5,000 iu's of quality Vitamin D per day and I haven't sneezed in 2 years.

My kids take Vitamin D and soak up sunlight. They haven't had an ear infection, asthma attack, allergic reaction or serious cold in their lives.

You don't know, and you don't want to know, but you are taking extra Vitamin D for what reason?

Funny thing is, my kid hasn't had any of those things either. He's fully vaccinated and doesn't take supplemental vitamin D. You see what we have here, with both of our testimonials is anecdotal evidence...which is meaningless.

It's like saying I haven't broken my toe since I started wearing black socks (without ever letting you know that I've never broken my toe).

I can't understand why you just can't seem to grasp that anecdotes don't mean shit.

Cool Doc.

Don't take Vitamin D.

Don't give it to your kid.

Don't soak up sun.

lol

It's not difficult for intelligent people to deduce the health benefits of Vitamin D / Sunlight.

Or ...

For you foot note Negros who need things spelled out ... there are plenty of "studies" and Sci-Fi "experts" documenting the value of Vitamin D and sunlight.

Right here on the front page of this blog you can listen to a 48 minute presentation by Dr. Frank Garland of the Naval Health Research Center who lays out the evidence that Vitamin D can prevent and reverse diabetes.

(It cracks me up how cats will wave the flag of nonsensical poisons like chemotherapy & H1N1 "vaccines" ... but suddenly get hyper skeptical about natural solutions like Vitamin D and sunlight)

You make it seem like I hide from the Sun and do everything in my power to avoid Vitamin D. And you'll make jokes whatever. That's all fine. I'm not bothered. But you don't seem to understand some of the details. So I'll let you in on them. You are taking 5-10 times the normal dose for an adult, not including what you already get in your diet, and from sun exposure.

Usually this is fine. But what's special about Vitamins A, D, E, K?
They are fat soluble and are stored. You don't just piss them out like alot of other supplements...and this can lead to toxicity. Kidney stones, and other ailments.

You only trot out scientists when you think it will fit your current screed...otherwise you have no use.

And what's so "natural" about 5,000 IU of Vitamin D? Did it grow on a tree...or was it packaged, processed, and shipped directly to you?

But, you know what? Don't pay any attention to what I just said. You don't believe in facts and don't listen to people who actually understand the details.

DV,

No conversation about Asthma should take place without discussing Konstantin Pavlovich Buteyko.

Please Google for anyone seeking alternative help.

Buteyko theory says that hyperventilation is not only a result of narrowed airways but causes the airway narrowing in the first place, and if the person were breathing normally then it would not occur.

His treatment of Asthma is the most popular worldwide but kept underground because they are no drugs involved.

Buteyko's theory works around the premise that the asthmatic habitually breathes with more force or more rapidly than is necessary almost all the time.

This theory is supported by research where asthmatics were reported breathing 10–15 litres of air each minute when they had no symptoms, instead of the normal 4–6 litres.

The carbon dioxide pressure in their blood confirms this because it is commonly less than the normal 40 mm Hg until the person has severe airway obstruction, when it can rise rapidly, causing another problem.

When a person breathes more air than they need to and there is not a huge problem with the gas exchange in the lungs, then carbon dioxide pressure in the lungs and bloodstream drops, causing a major problem for the body. Buteyko theory says that airway narrowing is a simple, if rather extreme, way of avoiding the loss of too much carbon dioxide.

One of the most vital roles of carbon dioxide is ensuring the release of oxygen to tissue cells. When carbon dioxide pressure is low, more oxygen is retained by haemoglobin and less is released to tissues to provide fuel for the body. This was first discovered by Danish scientist Christian Bohr approximately 100 years ago, and is called the "Bohr effect".

Low pressure of carbon dioxide also causes a multitude of other problems and reactions:

• smooth muscle throughout the body spasms;
• extra histamine is produced;
• the airways narrow;
• the heart beats faster;
• the nervous system becomes agitated;
• a condition known as respiratory alkalosis develops.

The primary stimulation for breathing is to maintain a predetermined pressure of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream, and breathing is adjusted to keep the level constant. Carbon dioxide is manufactured within the tissue cells, and when the cells are working hard they produce extra carbon dioxide. This is why during exercise the breathing pattern increases to get rid of the excess, and during sleep it slows down. However, the respiratory centre in the brain is adaptable to new pressures of carbon dioxide, and a prolonged drop in this pressure will cause the brain to accept the new and lower pressure as normal. It now stimulates the breathing pattern to maintain the new pressure. The good news is that the opposite is also true.

By following the Buteyko program, more carbon dioxide is gradually retained and the breathing pattern drops back towards normal. This opens up the airways and releases sufficient oxygen to tissues so that the person's asthma symptoms reduce significantly.

Is it the lack of Vitamin D or the inability to process (and store) Vitamin D that is the problem?
Is there something else which causes one to have lower levels?
Even if given Vitamin D - would someone without the ability to use it benefit?
