Dope vid. Hearing the mbira (African thumb piano) towards the end was a nice surprise, sounds good. That fusion has been used by some African rappers, nice to hear the style being 'copied'.

Thought it was a marimba.

No there is a big difference between the sounds - or perhaps you are confusing the names. Here's a hip hop track where the mbira is used, I'm yet to hear someone using the sound of marimbas in a hip hop track.

Bad link KonWomyn, =)

They sound similar, but I hear the difference now that I compared.

Here's one with marimba It's in spanish, but Hip-Hop still... the second girl is bad-ass.

Nice one Ces! Lol, that 2nd sista's got a crazy style. I know very little Spanish, what's the song about? I've always heard singing with marimba bands and I thought they would be too loud to rap over, when you told me, but this def works. HipHop Rocks!

You all know that's Butterfly from Digable Plants right?

Yea it is, I didn't even recognize him! On our side of the world, only the real heads listened to Digable Planets. My brother had Reachin', but it went M.I.A.

Actually, they do a lot of beats with marimbas but I never heard this girl before, I just searched "marimbas hip-hop" LOL, but they aight.

It talks about the social struggle in South America, especially in Colombia, preaching to go back to roots of our Culture. She also mentions the US even sells them all the corn they consume... LOL

People there is very alienable, they do what they see easily, faster. And what I see is a slow but consistent transition of our culture. I don't know how Colombia is in that aspect today, but I know in Peru there is a huge propaganda campaign of new cultural habits that are taking the over place of the cultural roots of the country.

Every 31st of October we celebrate what is call "Dia de la cancion Criolla" (Native Song/Music Day) where we celebrate the african-roots music of the country.

Our music is well distributed all around, but that date is being taking over by Halloween.

I have never seen so many young people celebrate Halloween as last year in my country. Only a very few 10 and under would use costumes and go out to 'trick or treat'.

I was really surprised. No one, absolutely no one around my age(25) celebrated that date 10 years ago. Today is most of them.

All of these has been very well marketed and funded by the alcohol industry.

Also, let me mention that some hip Universities have Starbucks inside the campuses. LOL, I'm like WTF?
