Ian O'Connor says ...
So the Boston Celtics, defending NBA champs, are preparing to hire Marbury, whose record reeks for itself. Marbury hasn't won a single playoff series in a dozen seasons, didn't even win a single playoff game as a Knick, and stands among the more prominent contributors to the Olympic disaster in Athens.
Once upon a time, the gifted young playmaker left Kevin Garnett in Minnesota because he was jealous of Garnett's standing and wage. Now Marbury will try to salvage a career he's worked so hard to destroy by jumping aboard Garnett's two-peat train.
Boston will live to regret this. Somehow, some way, this seemingly benign attempt to bolster their bench will cost the Celtics between now and the middle of June.

I like Marbury's Black partisan sensibility but as a Pro B Baller, the jury is still out on his career. So far, in my opinion, he's not a Hall of Famer. Excellent business sense though, thank God. But not a HoFer.
Yeah, I hear ya Dawg.
Marbury is not a Hall of Famer. Cool. 90% of the league isn't.
However, that does not explain the inordinate quantity of contempt expressed by the corporate media towards this brother.
He has a dispute with his employer. So? Half the fucking workforce has a dispute with their employer. This cat is routinely described as a "cancer".
Yet, his black coach in Boston wants him to join the team. The 3 hall of Famers already on the Celtics want him to join the team. What do they know these reporters don't know?
Or what, bothers these reporters about Stephon that does not bother the players?
I just read several articles at Sports on my Mind about Stephon and the supposed "cancer" he is. The numbers are there to refute all talk that he can't still play. As always when the media doesn't like you, you can be sure you will be labeled A "CANCER". There is no way the Celtics should NOT pick him up.
Based upon what I read in the LA Times today, the Big 3 don't really want Marbury in Boston.
DV, Marbury's beef with the media delves not only into him as player, but also to his social activism, too. Remember, he stepped up to the plate during the Katrina fiasco, putting over 1 million dollar for relief efforts. So, that along qualifies him for vilification to a lot of these folks. Can't have none of that self determination type stuff. Plus, he 'busted' one of his team's female assistants if you get my drift. I, personally, however, was never a big fan of his play.

Ahhhhh .... yes.
The truth rears it's ugly head.
"There is no way the Celtics should NOT pick him up." Cinque
I agree with Cinque on this one. The cat's got good numbers.
I don't know... maybe he is too Black. Or that the C's would then be seen as too Black.
The Celts are the great white hope of the NBA. He, like Iverson, just wouldn't fit the clean, polite and well spoken Black man mold of the Irish.

Ahhhh ... now we talkin'.
It took Black John to cut through the bullshit.
And he is right. Marbury has never come off as one of them brothas OVERLY EAGER to please or to be liked.
He plays ball. Gets his check. Goes home.
No cheesin'. No jocular nonsense with commentators. No need for external affirmation.
Marbury is the blackest cat in the NBA.
