President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team has given strong signals to Eric H. Holder Jr., a senior official in the Clinton administration, that he will be chosen as attorney general, but no final decision has been made, people involved in the process said Tuesday. Mr. Holder would be the first African-American to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official. He has long been considered the front-runner for the job as a strong supporter of Mr. Obama who brings to the job a long record as a prosecutor and a judge.
Now in private practice as a partner at the Washington law firm of Covington and Burling, Mr. Holder served as a federal prosecutor, a trial court judge, and United States attorney for the District of Columbia before becoming the top-ranking aide to Attorney General Janet Reno in 1997. He was the first African-American to serve in that post.
His last days at the Justice Department in 2001 were marred by his peripheral involvement in President Clinton’s controversial pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich, as some Republicans blamed Mr. Holder for failing to oppose the pardon. Some Democrats are concerned that the issue will resurface if Mr. Holder is nominated for attorney general.

Holder actually was a big opponent of Clinton's drug laws, so you should be happy about that. I would expect Holder to change those laws. What I don't like about Holder is his representation of Chiquita Banana and their death squads in South America.

HOUSTON - A grand jury in south Texas indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales yesterday for "organized criminal activity" related to alleged abuse of inmates in private prisons.
The indictment has not been seen by a judge, who could dismiss it.
The grand jury in Willacy County, in the Rio Grande Valley near the Mexican border, said Cheney is "profiteering from depriving human beings of their liberty," according to a copy of the indictment obtained by Reuters.
The indictment cites a "money trail" of Cheney's ownership in prison-related enterprises including the Vanguard Group, which owns an interest in private prisons in south Texas.
Gonzales used his position to stop the investigation into assaults in county prisons, the indictment said.
Cheney's office declined comment.
Why is Obama getting all these retreads from the Clinton regime. There's nobody else out there. When Clinton first came into office, nobody ever heard of these people. Now we know who they are from Clinton's admintration. What gives here? What happened to change?

This game, as Sarah Palin will attest, is closed to outsiders that threaten its existence. For example, Jimmy Carter's Secretary of State was one of the architects of Vietnam. The idea that cabinet ministers can be picked just off the street is delusional. At best he could get an academic in the mold of Kissinger or Zbig.

Please recall that cabinet ministers must be confirmed by the Senate. The POTUS can nominate anyone he pleases but the powers that be must give their consent. Besides, Holder is no more "corrupted" than Obama.

These Islamists have been on the scene for years and made dozens of videos and pronouncements without ever mentioning Malcolm X until using him as cover to hurl a racially derogatory epithet against the President-elect. Such pure gamesmanship rather than casting aspersion on Obama reveals the bankruptcy of Al Qaeda and byrdeye's pseudorevolutionary stance. Neither of these fake preachers have ever made a similar comparison of George Bush to Walker Lindh, the American Taliban.
