Doctor Warned Dr. Donda West About Risky Surgery

A plastic surgeon refused to perform plastic surgery on Dr. Donda West because he thought there was a risk of a heart attack. Dr. Andre Abolian told her she needed to get clearance from an internist but Dr. West went ahead with a tummy tuck and breast reduction without the co-sign from the internist according to TMZ.

The fire department was called to Donda West’s home after a 911 call:

A hospital spokesperson tells TMZ that an unresponsive West was brought to their ER around 8:00 PM Saturday night. They attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead around 8:30 PM that night.

I'm very sorry that she died. Particularly behind some damn plastic surgery.

WHOA!! My prayers go out to the west family. I hope he realizes it was just her time and not a result of his $ affecting their lifestyle.

I feel you. I'm sorry to lose someone over something so apparently superfluous as 'cosmetic surgery'.

Without taking anything away from the tragic loss of a woman so relatively young - one must wonder - what in the hell is a 58 year old woman doing getting 'cosmetic surgery' to begin with?

Was she planning on attracting a man?

What man her age is going to be more or less attracted to her because of some type of cosmetic augmentation or alteration?

I hear you DV. We may be speculating, but I doubt very seriously we're wrong. We've debated the issue of the standard of beauty in America in the past and although we didnt quite agree on the subject, I think we both see that "something" is being done to women in this country. This woman, for whatever reason, likely felt there was something wrong with her appearance. A successful single parent of a mega star who sings her praises, who at some point obtained a PhD, was still burdened by the physical. IMO, this too is a war, that should be called out and battled.

DV,

She had enough money to buy the same man the cosmetics would attract.

Perhaps she was doing it for herself.

Average, undergoing plastic surgery to attract a man, women don't raise Kanye Wests.

Even if she was doing it to get some play, may I be frank and ask 'What's your point?'

That's a good question Sista Kalena.

My point is this ... any 58 year old woman, thinking she is going to get more play, because her nose is 2 cm more narrow than before, or her breasts are now a D instead of a B, or her lips are pouty with collagen - is sadly mistaken.

Now we don't know that is the case with Madame West, but it does beg the question - why.

If it's that ol' - "she did it for herself" mantra - it still begs the question - how could an apparently intelligent woman, at this stage in her life mistake a physical augmentation with self-actualization.

I suspect Sista Robyn, is close to the truth. A war is being waged on the self-esteem of women and it is taking casualties.

My heart goes out to him.... It must be very painful to lose one's mother.

For a tummy tuck and breast reduction. :-(

Very sad indeed. I first thought I was heartless for feeling as though she died in vain(no pun intended). But, as I took a look at every young woman who has ever been on Kanye's arm...not a one looked anything like his mama. They say men grow up to marry men like their mothers? Really?

Nurse,
Good point. Much of this plastic surgery, hair weave, mumbo jumbo is because women are being lead to believe that's what men want.

Throughout history... What women in what culture has not practiced some form of image alteration to satisfy her culture??? So why hate on this sister.

THEY WERE THEIR TATTOOS
Body-Marking Lore of Tribal New Zealand

The top likeness of Tupai Cupa was drawn from life in 1826 during a visit he made to Liverpool England. The lower image is his own drawing of his facial tattoo that he used as a "signature." It's intricate detail was such a part of his sense of himself that he drew it freehand without consulting a mirror.

For instance, whenever Tupai Cupa, a tribal chief, was required to sign his name to a European document, he painstakingly drew his entire facial design. At left is a drawn-from-life portrait of the chief as well as a copy of one of his "signatures" from the 1820s.

No one is hating on her. Simply saying that its sad that she thought plastic surgery was necessary.

African Lip Plugs

We share with you pictures of African lip plugs, or labrets, which were in fashion prior to European contact in Africa. Their original purpose may have been to deform, affording women a sort of protection from Arab slavers. David Livingstone asked a chief the reason for them and in surprise the chief answered; for beauty! They are the only beautiful things women have. Men have beards, women have none. What kind of person would she be without Pelele ? She would not be a woman at all.

DV you ass.u.me. But you don't know what her reasons may have been. And if it were to feel better about herself that was her choice. Why not the outrage for the gang bangers on the corners imitating fiddy??

Actually you are right Casper -

Throughout history, women have altered their appearance.

However, if you can point to examples in history where women have risked death and performed surgeries to insert plastic into their breasts or sucked flesh out of their thighs?

Also, wasn't most image alteration done by women during their child bearing prime?

How many grandmothers (58 years old) were putting plates in their lips and dancing mating rituals?

Not hating on a sister - interested in saving future sisters.

Understand?

Even without finding the details for you DV I would suspect that numerous deaths occurred during many of the procedures just using plan logic. We know your against the process. But it ain't nothing new DV...Is my point... And due to the laws of nature there will be a few casualties during any procedure. Your point is that you believe it was unnecessary. But that was her choice. I am not going to bash her or any woman for that.

Casper,
I have noticed you quote a lot of thought that is not yours originally. I have no issue w/ u utilizing quotes to support your opinion, but cutting and pasting in place of using your braincells is really not warranted in this forum.
Not one of us is hating on Dr. West. It was her choice to attempt to satisfy an unrealistic image of what is beautiful. Does it matter whether she was doing it for herself or the man in the moon? It all sucks.
We have all been fearfully and wonderfully made...just as we are.

Thanks for your opinion. But if your not interested in possibly learning something new from another source other than myself... Becasue as I see the front page of this blog it's maninly cut and paste, my sister. Then please pass over my post. When I last looked there is not one expert here posting knowledge. Thus, if it takes historical perspective from a source who actually spends their life devoted to facts on a topic versus the broad assumptions made on this board then what is it hear for?! I am not into perpetuating rumor. We as black folk need the facts. Sorry, you don't see it that way. BTW if I post it I believe in it for the record. The truth will set you free my sister!

Being true to yourself not to let your prejudice blind you from not reading an alternate idea/answer for the truth may be presented. No one said you had to believe everything you read. Hell! I read DV's non-stop pro-gangster rap campaign once a week. Even if I don't agree I read and even if he cuts and paste from other sources like II. I noticed Steph didn't get on them. Why is that??

the good nurse said...

Casper,
Please don't take what I said so personal. I am simply asking that we use our own thought process to make decisions and develope our own point of views. The reason I commented on your use of cut/paste is that is seems to be used excessively. I apoligize if u were offended. Not my intent. Do not allow other people to dictate how u should think...not even me.
