wouldn't have known about it if you hadn't mentioned it, and will never feel any manifestation coming from it aside from the occasional spurt of noise out of the car radio when my children get their grubby little digits on the channel button and move the dial to the disney radio station occasioning some or another snippet of their workproduct reaching my air for a few seconds before I slap it back to community radio KKFI.
Oh please DV, whats so hateful about disinterest? Must I be interested in all black entertainers in the world? I wish them well as human beings, what more do I need to do.

You don't need to do anything Sista Accra. I just asked.
Kind of a Black Man's Burden litmus test.
I find it interesting that the response to 3 of the most recognizable black men on the planet is purported to be "disinterest" and "indifference".
Most people on this planet don't own televisions! By the way, what do/have these black men contributed to the general upliftment/improvement of black people on the planet? Or let me qualify that to black people in America? Are they role models? Have they created jobs in the black communities? Have the raised the "consciousness" of people of African descent?
Just curious, since I don't really listen to their music, and I only see them on the cover of glitzy entertainment, fashion mags or TV ( I have one which I rarely watch).
DV perhaps you can educate me on the relevance and importance of these guys to my life as a black woman.

Remember, I am not suggesting you feel anything in particular about these men.
I just asked you WHAT you felt. Not WHY NOT.
The answer seemed to be a resounding "indifference" or "disinterest".
I noted that I find it odd, that such globally recognized icons would generate effectively "no response".
20 posts later, I still find the claim by a group of super smart informed people to be "disinterested" and "indifferent" intellectually dishonest.
DV, you haven't answered my question. And your question was do they invoke pride or hate. the answer is neither. Indifference!
For black person who contributes to the improvement/upliftment of back people..... many, from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, to Mr Mensah down the street who runs a community school
role model.....too many to mention....... John Mark from a small village in the Upper East Region of Ghana, 1st person in his village to go to university etc. etc. Your rappers may also fit all of the profiles stated above, which is why I asked you to educate me on why you think one should feel either pride or hate at the sight of them.

The founders of the American state understood that the proper functioning of a democracy required an educated electorate. It is this understanding that justifies a system of public education and that led slaveholders to resist the spread of literacy among their chattels. But the meaning of "educated" has changed beyond recognition in two hundred years. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are no longer sufficient to decide on public policy. Now we need quantum mechanics and molecular biology. The knowledge required for political rationality, once available to the masses, is now in the possession of a specially educated elite, a situation that creates a series of tensions and contradictions in the operation of representative democracy.

ask a black woman and she'll (i'll) say:
- sexual objectification - Fiddy
- blatant disregard of value - Diddy
this picture made me smile instantly since Jigga is the object. then rolled my eyes upon noticing Diddy and Fiddy.

three of the favorite pastimes of the people on this planet are television, McDonalds-like fare, and pornography.
what kind of litmus test is that? and what exactly does it prove?

"recognizable" connotes mind share on the grid, has no bearing whatsoever on mind share in my head...,
Any way Pele , Ali then Michael Jackson are the three most recognizable brother's on the planet. Get your factoids correct brother!

Didn't say you SHOULD.
I said I find it odd that you don't.
Just as I would find it odd if one said they were "disinterested" in the two young Egyptian sistas I posted below.
The men you mention sound interesting. I would like to learn more about them.
