600 Million Muslim Women On Earth. 1 Speaks For Herself

Intellectual Insurgent said...

Dina, do not be disingenuous. There are many things that some American women are doing that some Iranian women would like to do and that as a nation they experience as an anomaly. Jasai

Like what? How do you know what Iranian "women" want to do? How do you know what they can and can't do "as a nation"? Yes, there are crazy things that happen. Just like there are crazy things that happen here.

This obsession with what happens to Muslim women is the height of arrogance and smacks of Manifest Destiny/White Man's Burden. The Muslim feminists I've read have repeatedly, over and over, told Western women to mind their own MF'ing business. They aren't infantile little victims who can't speak for themselves. But it gives Americans a great sense of self-righteousness to "liberate" those people from what we unilaterally designate as problems.

Here's what's so hypocritical about these discussions. When something happens to an American, you take it as an individual event that does not reflect on the whole of the American nation. When something happens to an Iranian woman, you take is as confirmation of the inherent inferiority and "injustice" of the Iranian nation. And I'm calling bullshit on that double standard.

Everytime you cite a woman who gets stoned, I'll find a woman who climbed Mt. Everest. For whatever pathological reason, you accept that the former example is a representation of the entire nation of Iran, but the latter does not. That is what is disingenuous.

i'm sorry i must have read that wrong. was she speaking for herself or was she again defending all of the 600 million free muslim women around the world.

or maybe she was defending the ones whose work she's read.

hell didn't even know she was muslim.

I think she is just pointing out the double standard of judgment on these two countries.
Bottom line is ,the people of Iran have not asked the US to liberate them from their government. Believe it or not, not all people want the American model of Democracy for themselves.

The level of arrogance in America right now is approaching Nazi Germany in 1938.

They are pushing it here like they push drugs.

The media didn't even bother to PRETEND to be news when Ahmadinejad came here. They dished out propaganda like it was government cheese.

What is shocking Accra - is that it is going to work.

They are going to attack Iran by duping the American people into some BS about "liberating women and gays".

After 24 hours of "programming" they've got half the nation (even the intelligent people) repeating that nonsense like parrots.

Then little black boys and little Mexican boys will be dying in yet another middle eastern desert and American women will be wondering why.

now this is where you're worng. they are going to attack Iran by doing whatever they have to do to accomplish the edns that they seek. "The American People" have about as much control over this regeime attacking Iran as they have over their cell phone reception.

Your suggesting that Americans are to blame only implicates you as well. unless i missed something.

You, i do believe, were the one who said americans are fools for thinking that they have any control over who becomes president. now we have the power to stop this government from going to war with another.

pick a lane homeboy.

We can't do anything?
We have no control?
There's nothing we can do?

Yeah? Well you believe that. That's exactly what they want you to believe. Just don't be mad at me because I do believe there is something that "we" can do.

And remember "Mrs. Boots on The Ground" who applauded marching off to Jena like chickens with our heads cut off, "because that could be 'my' son" - as we blog plans are being drawn to attack Iran. Nuclear options are not being withheld. The young Iranian boys evaporated in the first millisecond could also be your son.

The fact that I have to defend challenging the hypocrisy of the corporate media that beats the drum for war is remarkable.

you don't have to do anything. this is your choice. don't be mad at your choice. it is the only thing you can control.

you are the "stupid americans think they can effect govenmental change" guy.

not i.

others will choose to join you. really.

you and your crew beat the divisive drum. i'll breathe compassionate breath. and whatever will happen as a result will happen.

deal? deal.

lets see, if you pit their women against our women and their "straight" population against our "gay" population, their devotion to god against our heathen way of life that, should keep the war at bay.

yes.

that should do it.

proceed.

I heard some neocons babbling about the "Middle East" and one of the points they made was that the way to conquer the lands was to "get to the women". And we're witnessing that as we speak.

What happened to Boots On The Ground?

Denmark Vesey said...

Nah. You right.

Let's endorse stupid little manufactured memes like "their women aren't free" and "they kill gays".

Bomb them. Kill them. And be done with it.

Let's reserve all of our passion for black boys who kick other boys until they are unconscious.

Once they are free, let's not mention again until the next Negro crisis.
