Sometimes, things aren't as complex as we'd like to make them. Very simply, there is something wrong with sending a man to prison with rapists and murderers for funding a dog fighting ring. Talk about "apples and sushi!"
Those of you who lack the ability to use your gut to gage fair from unfair scare the hell out of me.
- This issue is not deep. Some crimes are more serious than others -- punishment should be prescribed accordingly. 3 years in federal prison and the potential loss of your entire career is complete nonsense.
- Make the man pay a fine, subject him to public reproval and lets move on.
- Michael Vick is not a danger to society so why the hell is prison even a part of the discussion?
- I can only shake my head at those who, for whatever reason, arent able to see this.
- This is not about black, white, rich or poor. This is about plain fairness and an apparent inability to see/smell a steaming pile of bullshit!

I'm waiting for someone (Casper, Skip) to respond to what I said. You can make this a race or class issue and debate all day.
But do me the single favor of putting race and money aside, and articulating why what Michael Vick did (serving as the funding for a dog fighting ring and likely making some bets, maybe even putting a few dogs down) is deserving of 3 years in federal prison.
ITS A VERY DIRECT AND POINTED QUESTION. LETS SEE IF YOU, ANYONE, CAN PROVIDE A DIRECT AND POINTED RESPONSE!
it's illegal. and he knew it when he was doing it.
we all have choices to make. unfortunately we don't get to also choose the consequences of said choices.
I ain’t right but it’s real.
Jasai: I ain’t right but it’s real.
Robyn: Funny. See the Halle Berry thread.
Robyn,
You've touched on a very sensitive topic.
When one reverse engineers the calls to "neuter Vick" and the joyous "Hi-Fives" people exchanged on TV when his plea was announced, one quickly discovers the energy behind hurting men like Vick, often has very little to do with the actuality of any particular crime.
They want to punish what Michael Vick represents.
His youth, blackness and wealth threatens many men. They want to remind other men like Vick who really holds the power.
It's the same energy that makes certain men go after Hip Hop stars.
Like Insurgent said: "With men, everything boils down to potency."
Vick is ending up in jail, not because of anything connected to dogs, but because power, his speed, and his grace made millions of other men feel emasculated.
His dark skin and cornrows did not go unnoticed.
Yeah, they cheered for him when he won, and they ridiculed him when he lost - but underneath that sports bravado is the simmering envy of an emasculated hater.
Fiddy does the same thing but worse. He rubs it in their faces.
"I used to drive a Benzo,
Then I got an Enzo,
Ferrari I'm sorry,
I keep blowin' up"
They'd love to put that boy in prison.
(Can you imagine the party at Casper's house the day the NY Post announces 50 Cent has been killed or is jail?)
Jealousy is a bitch.
Robyn... Vick was arrogant... He was that way @ VT as well. He knew what he was risking. Listen 3 years for dog fighting/ killing dogs... I feel you. However, what the fuck was he thinking!! This would not be an issue if he didn't think he was above the law. Shoot even DV wouldn't have his hampsters fight in their hampster cage.

Just like your jealousy of the more powerful Oprah son! haha
You love to double talk kid!
Okay, the hampster thing was funny!
Nah.
Fat middle aged black women in love with Tom Cruise while hating Ludacriss threaten no one.
Oprah could eat a dog on national TV and nothing would happen to her.
"She was hungry! Get off her back!"
Yeah and Diddy is chasing after Sienna Miller.. Now that is one skinny bitch that needs to eat a dog. While Diddy let the mother of his kids walk out the door. Guess you going to defend Diddy's ass too. Uh Huh.. Yeah! Mace Jr.
"fat middle aged women" my my such hate!
I don't know what the sentencing guidelines are for the crime that Vick commited, I also don't know whether he got the stiffest penalty allowed under those guidelines....... I also feel that it is a shame for a young talented black man to loose so much. But this is the reality of justice in the United States. If nothing at all, his ordeal may serve as an example to other young men like himself who are skirting on the fringes of the law..
I'm sorry Anonymous.
But that "Lesson To Other Blacks" is some complacent bullshit.
If there is any lesson it is that:
1) Today's black American's are scared conformists who initially jump on the bandwagon of condemnation, only to get reflective after sentencing.
2) Black Americans are completely ignorant of media, the perils of selective prosecution and the existence of a culture war.
A lesson is supposed to impart some knowledge for the good of others.... even if I were to agree with the lessons you have stated above, how will these " lessons" help any potential "Vick" in the short term?
Learning how to avoid falling victim to the lopsided justice system, and understanding the lessons that you stated above are not mutually exclusive.
DV
"Black Americans are completely ignorant of media, the perils of selective prosecution and the existence of a culture war."
Your a black american so that includes you as well right!
Where was this hate for the system when Arthur Blank wrote Vick a $130,000,000 check DV... How soon you forget... Old age maybe.
Casper,
.
Never mind.
Robyn...
"This is not about black, white, rich or poor."
That is exactly what it is about, Robyn.
The whole thing is orchestrated to demonstrate that a rich male black is worth less than a fuckin' dog.
I certainly may be Mike. But my point is that we dont even have to go there to demonstrate that what is happening to Vick is wrong. In the law you learn to attack the opposition's case on the most basic grounds. Its easier that way. If they didnt read him his rights, no need to deal with 'what he really meant when he said...was'
