3) Jimmy Kimmel is funny. I like his style, wit and timing. The fact that he is white does not change my ability to enjoy his style, wit or timing. Yes, he is “my man”. Dispite every disagreement we ever had, every name we ever called each other, we both understood that it was a battle between Brothers. But if you see fit to endorse this shit, you ain't no Brother of mine.
But Mike, you didnt think it was funny? Not any of it? Indeed only Flav signed up to be roasted, but we cant all agree that the women on Flavor of Love did, in fact, at a minimum, act like whores?
I hear you in that we should not just let anyone say anything about us, but I will have to spend some time evaluating when and where we are free to just chalk things up to being funny. Because I think some things just are -- nothing more, nothing less.
I see why one could be offended by the jokes being told, but I must be honest and say that I was not. To make it a lot more tangible, I am far more offended by your unwillingness to cut black women even a modicum of slack, than I am by anything Bridgette Nielson or Jimmy Kimmel may say about Flavor Flav. As a black male member of my community, your opinion matters. The TV bullshit does not. Why figuratively cut DV off on said basis?
I guess what I am trying to convey is that I dont agree with your kneejerk response that DV isnt a brother of yours because he could see the humor in the roast. If you continue to be a cardcarrying member of the family, certainly DV should too. 'Cause lord knows, some of the reasoning/thinking you endorse requires that I wipe my eyes to ensure that its a black man talking/typing.

William Drayton is a friend of mine. He is also one of the most talented black men I have ever met. I remember one time in 1994 or so my partner, Flava, and I chilled in Rio for a few days after a few stadium shows we did with PE in Sao Paulo.
So one day I am walking down to the lobby and there is William sitting at a Baby Grand playing Mozart - flawlessly. That man can pick up any one of over TWENTY instruments and play it. And do so in a range between good and masterful.
During those Rio days William turned down one of the finest Brazilian women you can find, cause he didn't want to take advantage of a fan. Now, I hadn't seen him do that before, but it shows that there is decency within him.
William is a troubled brother, an off again on again on again drug addict, but he is a decent human being. That is usually the feature of a creative genius. And he is vulnerable. Unfortunately, often he does not listen. But it is the duty of the people around him to protect him from ridicule.
I called some of the guys who are handling William on a daily to find out how they could have allowed this stuff. Their explanation/excuse was that none of the material presented was scripted by the presenters. It was all written by VH-1 writers.
I ain't done with these folks around William yet. They had him sitting up there like a village idiot cackling at tis bullshit.
Now. What is happening here is that these white racist pigs are using a troubled, vulnerable brother in order to mock black men in general and black women specifically.
The women that appear on Flava of Love ACT. That is what they were hired for. There is no such thing as a true "reality show" the women are coached by the producers.
When Julia Roberts played a whore in Pretty Woman, no one thought of coming out and call her a whore. Besides that, mind you, these 20 sisters weren't being roasted, William was.
When these women, justifiably, showed Kimmel the finger, he went on insulting them as WHORES. Not even "hos". Whores.
That is NOT ACCEPTABLE. This is not funny. It is worse than what Don Imus did. Much worse.

Fisher, while I agree with most of what you've written, I am curious. You are defending these women for their act notwithstanding the fact they were all likely motivated by money, by the chance to have 15 minutes of fame, etc., etc.
Is it not possible that 50 or Snoop or whoever else are equally acting and deserving of your defense? Is it possible that they learned that they needed to play a role just as those women did and luckily achieved financial success doing so?

whats even more notable about Fisher's comment is that he is vigorously defending women who's chosen actions are aguably indefensible (did you not watch the show?), but will indict the likes of everyday sistas like Jasai, et al (she aint the only one), who do nothing more than try and better themselves, work with the hands they have been dealt, etc., and perhaps simply make the best of a bad situation.

In either case it is not a contradiction.
In the case of William Drayton he sold himself to play the image of the bafoon/minstrel so that racist pigs can make fun of him and black men in general.
