Here's the way I understood it:
6.8 is the current world population, the UN predicts it will grow to 9 billion. Bill Gates says this number is too large even if resources were to be fairly distributed, so the population growth rate has to be slowed down.
He argues that if people got "vaccines and reproductive health services" then the birth rate would be lowered in poorer countries with high birth rates. He estimates this would cut the UN estimate by 10-15% i.e the 9 billion projection would come down to about +-8 billion.
He is not proposing to 'kill' anyone but *forecasting* what he thinks can be done.
I'm not stanning for Bill Gates, but this is a gross misinterpretation. Nutters like Alex Jones thrive on this and disappointingly, educated folks lap up this fear and paranoia stuff, rather listen for themselves and offer an informed critique and viable alternative, if they have one.

I always find it interesting when people say what the world's population is now compared to what it was at the turn of the last century. The data points look totally exaggerated, but part of that is because there were quite a few peoples that weren't even discovered by census takers back in the day. We may have been miscounting and our comparisons might be wayyyy off.
In any event, I saw the research in some mainstream magazine about the mosquitoes to be used as vaccine vectors. When I read that article, a chill ran up my spine and I became nervous on many, many levels.
