I've moved. Started a business. Bought a few more things. Worked more, traveled less. Regressed in my eating habits : (
But I've been visiting DV.net lately.

I haven't abandoned the blog! Prior to graduation, I mentioned this blog in my African American History course often.

I'm in my early 20's at a University in Washington, D.C.....I was assigned a Nat Turner vs Denmark Vesey debate, and stumbled across this blog. It's GOLDEN!

Conservative Black Woman - you have abandoned us on your blog.

You know as well as I do that the FOOLISHNESS being propagated to Black People is on a record pace today. You've gotta hold it down for the sane people.

Whoa Sista Nurse!

My man is 21 now!

Wow.

That's cool. Big Ups Big Ups!

I hear that in some cultures, on the child's birthday, the mother is celebrated, because bringing a child into the world is considered her accomplishment.

I believe that.

You say you feel both excited and melancholy.

Why also melancholy?

Because he is getting older?

No longer feels like a child?

Why is that?

Denmark Vesey said...

AaaaahhhhMarie!

I know you here!

What's keeping you busy these days?

What are you focused on?

Denmark Vesey said...

MELLY MEL!!

I appreciate the appreciation!

Big Ups!

Interesting debate.

Nat vs. DV

Only in DC.

What side you choose?

Who won?

MEL said...

DV

I chose Nat Turner, and won. The biggest thing I took away from the debate is the amount of slaves that ultimately "snitched" on both Nat Turner and DV. Oddly enough, I think I may have done the same...

Denmark Vesey said...

Why do you think you would have done the same Mel?

MEL said...

DV

Fear. Both Nat and D.V- along with hundreds of other slaves, were ultimately killed. Understand that I am considering both field-hands and household slaves, and the tension between the two. I figured... what if I worked in the house, but I knew what the field-hands were planning? What if I never said anything to my master? I could be beat, raped, or murdered. What if the slave master was my biological father? IDK...my class went into an uproar about my response. I'm a Sociology major, so my heart is rather large. What would you do? Honestly.

What are you focused on?

DV, I've been working alot and been tired and stressed out. I'm focused on trying to get back on track with healthy eating and plenty rest.

Denmark Vesey said...

Ahhhh ... OK. OK.

I see what you saying Mel.

OK.

What would I do?

Well.

I would probably do what was in my best interest.

If being a slave was tolerable for me ... I'd probably be a slave.

Assuming the people behind Nat Turner and Denmark Vesey would have been my people, my cousins, my brothers, my tribe, my blood .... would I "turn them in" ... probably not.

If antebellum slavery was as horrible and intolerable as modern day Negros make it out to be ... I would probably risk my life attempting to escape it or to destroy it.

But, Mel, all things considered, I think you are right.

I think you are onto something.

Meaning.

I don't consider modern day negros in 2012 much more "free" than Negros in 1812.

No, they are not being whipped, or forced to pick cotton, but they are just as much in bondage as was Joseph Cinque when he was dragged off the Amistad.

They are in debt. They are bought and sold. (Research the real purpose of your birth certificate)

They do not control their own diets.

They do not control their own minds.

They do not control their own children.

They never optimize their human potential.

I don't imagine Denmark Vesey or Nat Turner had any more of a chance to motivate Negros back then to overturn that system of slavery than a brother would have today if he attempted to rally Black people to change their diets, remove their children from the public school system and to dismantle the Federal Reserve.

Hell,

I've had Negros chomping at the bit for years, looking for a chance to snitch on me just for operating this blog.

...

...

So Mel.

I feel you.

You don't know what you would have done back then, and the people in your class didn't either.

I've always had a middle finger for them bone-in-the-nose Afro-Centric ... after-the-fact ... revolutionaries ... all militant and antagonistic towards white folks on the surface ... but accepting of their slavery on every level possible.

DV and CF~ I'm still fighting the good fight...just not so much on the internet. I'm vigilantly and fervently combating the programming (indoctrination)taking place on my VERY OWN DAUGHTER at an HBCU...that was a full time job this year!!!

CBW:

You asked me about the general physical safety around the Spelman Campus.

Your daughter has less of a chance being attacked by a Street Pirate in neighboring Vine City than she will suffer a constant stream of indoctrination by the "Black Establishment" forces in the AU Center which fronts as if they are radical nationalists when they really are just doctrinaire in support of the same ole same.

There is more of a push for "Congregational Unity" among Negroes than what their dress and hair styles lead one to believe.

Been fighting the wrath of long-term unemployment here. I learned a lot about myself during this serious trial, but on the path to rejoining the workforce with the kind of gig and $$ I like.

Had to deal with cutting HisSide out of my life as his alcoholism and abuse took a really bad turn and I could no longer put myself in harm's way to try and help him.

These and other trials over the past year+ have truly built character and strength.

I am on the wrong side of eating habits, and I'm FEELING it...

@Mel,

In the 60's black communities would hide Panthers on the run from the police.
In Chicago Panthers had shoot outs with police.
When police killed 7 NOI members there were brothers from other temples offering to come handle those cops.
Right before the Iraq War we had one case of fragging, in 1970 363 cases in one year alone.

Can you imagine these events today? Can you imagine supporting events that took place 30 to 50 years ago?
It takes a whole lot more imagination to place yourself in the 19th century.

"What if I never said anything to my master? I could be beat, raped, or murdered. What if the slave master was my biological father?"

You could be beat raped or murdered?

Mel, you are property, your children are property, your mother and father are property. A loyal obedient dog should not assume otherwise.
Getting nookie from your property is no more rape than it's theft to eat food from your own crop; to take eggs from your own chickens; to milk your own cows. To you it's rape.
