"Limiting Cherokee membership to those with Cherokee blood" sounds fair enough...but I don't pretend to know anything about this issue to comment intelligently.

Though I'm interestred to know how the "Black Cherokees" responded.

Also interested to know if so-called Native Americans claim the same kinship to us that we do them. I got told about my grandmother's Seminole blood farily frequently. Do they claim us? Sittin around the house, going, yeah, we got "black in our family".

The thing I do take from this is the backwardness of the need to clamor for membership into some disadvantaged "group" so you can get stuff from the government. Its like a contest to see who can claim to be more jacked-up.
I pray for us all to be in a position that we say, "keep your membership...I'm cool...I know who I am."...we're all very used to that gubment teat though!

My mother and her siblings went to school in Scottsdale in order to be 'assimilated'.
Odd - now whites wish to become more Native?

The title of this post is a flat out lie. Please do some research before spreading divide and conquer race baiting propanda. It had nothing to do with black or white and had everything to do with having one Cherokee ancestor. Let some black Cherokees educate you on the issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bl2WNu4ERqA
