Of all the intense and meaningful aspects of the Black experience ... Hollywood manages to finance, produce and market only those memes that fortify the illusion of white supremacy. Plantation Negros line up and pay money to consume these memes like crack addicts lining up for a hit of base. Why?
They relish the role of the perpetual victim leaning on a permanent crutch of racial injustice. Deep down inside they believe white people are all-powerful. They feel safe when white people owe them something.
So ... although told through the eyes of a "good" Liberal white woman whose only desire is to protect innocent fat black maids from the mean thin southern white women ... the purpose of this film is to anger black women and make white women feel guilty.
Divide. Conquer. Shampoo. Rinse.

DV, don't get me started on this one. I had to leave a similar comment at another blog which presented the question, "Who's gonna go see this movie?" That blog author was also weary of Hollywood's lack of vision, creativity, and depth in depicting the black experience in film (particularly related to women with brown skin).

I saw it. It's a good story all bullshit aside.
But more than anything it's just so fun to hear the comments made by older white women after the movie.
One lady discussed how her mother never called their help a maid as if she deserved some badge of honor.
For what it's worth, I think it will force people to think about what is said behind closed doors...
Funny how this movie comes out around the same time the trial proceedings regarding that black male being run over and killed by a white teen made headlines..

I was playing pool with a guy in Brazil today. I usually consider myself good, but the pockets here are smaller and they have different rules. Add that to the fact that my portuguese is a solid 3.5/10 and I'm a little frustrated... Add that to the fact that this brotha has two of his balls blocking the two closest pockets to mine and I'm getting a little heated. I recall thinking "I'd be good if this clown would just get those two balls out of my way." Some inner voice thought it would be fair and proper for the sake of the game that he free up the two pockets he was blocking. As each of his turns passed he didn't even look at the two blocked pockets, and it took me until the third time he shot to stop hoping he would do so... I thought, "why would I expect him to help me if we're in competition against each other (I cant find question marks on this keyboard).
Then I caught the metaphor... Learned helplessness and/or the "plantation negro mindset" is so deep that it followed me all the way to South America into a friendly game of pool to remind me that I must resist.. even on vacation.
I think I'm intelligent, like everyone else who shares on this blog. We get to diagnosing the problems of black america, who's a plantation negro, etc... and we forget that it's in all of us. If you're cringing at the thought, good. You should be...
Here we go again.. another Hollywood good ole' niggah movie about how black women were the only "worthy" individuals who should be recognized as the hard working..smart..and the true survivors of the "horrible" slave experience...the so called "negro...african american...black...colored..man has continued to be invisible..shiftless. lazy...and missing in action.. I would like to see "hollyweird" produce a movie showing what Amerikka would b like WITHOUT the contributions of the "entire black community"..no more colored purples...for colored girls..comedic buffoonery..when we get our own mediums maybe we will present "positive" images of black family....we are still out here!

Hollywood is played out anyway. You want positive role models on film? Get a camera and a cast, and YouTube it. Or go straight to DVD by choice.

Aint nobody checkin for Tyler Perry but old church ladies. He wishes he was a woman and keeps trying to write in our perspective which is getting irritating.
If more brothers were stepping up as fathers we wouldn't have so many closet homos running around. And if more women let these brothers be fathers and stopped acting like their sons were their boyfriends ("nobody's good enough for my baby" = pedophilia) than these young men would have a fighting chance.
