This is one of those posts people shy away from. Some pimp shit that raises so many questions. I was just speaking to my lovely great aunt about this topic the other day (why women choose). She explained to me how she was raised to pick a man who was "doing better than her, not worse." She expressed what she had been taught with a sparkle of nostalgia in her eyes, and her constant glancing at my older sister as she made her points tells me she feels this is still very applicable today. This video speaks to that same point. I wonder how this still lives within our women right now. I ask blunt questions to women and usually get a "safe" response as if they were interviewing for a job...
So I pose the same question to the DV community: Why exactly does the 2011 woman "choose"? Is my great aunt's opinion still valid from a "modern" woman's perspective? Please don't respond if you're gonna keep it anything less than 100. Thanks.

I have been in COUNTLESS altercations in bars and clubs because some other man's broad flirted with me and the dude got upset. But Dr. Dre said way back when, "If YOUR bitch in my shit, it's your bitch you check, nigga." I couldn't have said it better myself.
I say a dude the other day I haven't seen since college...some 14years ago...and the nigga was STILL grillin' me because ONE chick on campus he wanted chose me. And I flaunted her on him. :-) Not many things on earth burn a man more than when his woman tricks around or flights with another man.

I suppose in the end I completely understand that it is a man's overall decision which steers the direction of the relationship--
UNLESS
the woman in the beginning stages is just much more cunning, that much more assertive and in control than her man.
I mean there are a lot more pussy-footing, stay at home fathering, I'm trying to get a job quoting, 35+ in a big home alone living, where tha party at but I'm focused on my career believing, 2+ year engagement loving Muhfuckas out HERE.
Put simply:
If ALL women were to be chosen.
A lot of women would never be chosen.
So it's a cat fight out there for sure as IWander describes. For some of us *coughs* there's not much competition.
But I can say that I'm betting on the man who chose me will be the one who I ultimately choose too.

wow, "COUNTLESS altercations", "14 years ago" and still pissed... you must be pretty awesome!! and maybe you really are -- good looking, athletic, and intelligent, a top ten percenter. but if you are trying that hard to convince yourself and everyone else how sweet you are, your low self esteem is compensating for something.
Methinks that by and large women choosing a mate is a fairly recent phenomena in the history of man as is marrying for love. In tandem with other sophisticatedly orchestrated moves we've seem the family, as an institution, deteriorate. It's gradual deterioration directly tied to so-called socially liberating schematics. Disguised as freedoms this mess has had a deleterious effect. The problem is that "ignorance and freedom are incompatible".
The male's role and design is to be the head, the leader. Just as the anatomical head governs the self. Decisions are his to be made. Rebellion against this arrangement is nothing new hence the stories of men dragging females with one hand a club in the other or the infamous dog chase the cat scenario. My grandmother would say men are pursuers and women pursuees.
The females role in all of this is elevation. If tricks and ho's were significantly reduced or non-existent today fellas would be forced step it up. Women owe it to themselves, to each other, and to our offspring (until the last generation) to collectively hold themselves in high esteem; veiwing their wombs as sacred. This, in turn, would cause an ascension in man. He'd have no choice but to come correct, offering a desirous dowry when asking for someone's daughter.
The entire pecking order has been thrown off because women have been led to believe that they can stand in a man's station. It is ignorant to believe that our stations in life are equal or interchangeable. They are incomparable.
