Summin Aint Right ...

Politics...I just don't get it.

It's almost as if the agenda his administration currently operates under, or any Presidential administration for that matter, was written in stone prior to his arrival...Obama and every other President of recent are the spokespersons and targets of our affections and animosities. They are also the centers of the Dem/Rep strawman arguments. What a lot of us really would like to see happen in this country is either promised and then ignored, or never brought to the table. It's like the the kid in high school running for class president promising tacos on Tuesday and two hour recess...like that shit ever happened.

We called Bush a figurehead and claimed he wasn't really the one running things ("Dick Cheney runs the country!" was what some folks claimed)...what makes Obama any different? We've been sold out regarding our health and our food choices with ObamaCare and his penchant for appointing Monsanto goons to US agricultural positions. We saw how the BP oil spill went down, and then we hear about all the contributions they made to his election prior to him taking office. The so-called "War on Terror", no way he was going to stop that one. Gave a date for withdrawal, then pushes it back. Corporate bailouts while these cats are still collecting bonuses, mandatory healthcare to keep us leashed to government, recent approval of GMO foods meanwhile Michelle is on a campaign to improve pregnant women's health and to cut down on child obesity. Etc, etc, etc...the Obama we've grown to know of personally doesn't show his face in administrative decision making.

When it's all said and done, those who still play the Dem/Rep game as if it really matters will see this as nothing more than an opportunity to say, "See? Put a Democratic, fancy spinach eating n!gger in office, and look what happens!" The next person to fill the seat then has free reign to "get us back on track", and keep fulfilling this prewritten legacy. Players in the game, like a secret lover on some soap opera that we love or hate and talk about the next day as if the shit was real. Meanwhile...shit IS real.

We got change, and that's all he promised. Wasn't no indication of good or bad however. Shit, we got "change" at our hospital redently by merging with some greedy corporate entity that claims to "improve health everyday"...and my whole department is about to get laid off within a matter of months. Black folks are hootin' and hollerin' about it like an employer actually "owes" them something; same negroes still hootin' and hollerin' about "we jus' gots to gib Obama a chance! He done inheriteded dis mess!" Please.

When you step back and look at this whole thing, I don't think it's really about this brother. He played the saving grace hero when the Bush regime ended, and will be replaced by some other cleanup man (or woman) when the folks "behind the scenes" need to get the rest of their bucket list checked off...

Corporate interests run the country in this day and age, not some brother in a tailored suit.

Brother DV:

You should replace the picture of "President Obama" and instead put a picture of Black America in its place - retaining the caption.

I think Obama just lacks a backbone. Bush lacked a brain and a conscience. Obama is intelligent but wants to please everyone and I hate to say it but he's kind of a pussy.

Pink:

With all due respect - You want Obama to FIGHT HARDER........in accomplishment of WHAT?

The article of "Bloomberg Businessweek" last week asked "Would you invest in a company that was $14T in debt?".

My frustration with some "brothers and sisters" is that they believe that IF Obama would have "fought harder".........THEY "would have gotten HEALTH CARE".

They fail to see that THEY AIN'T GOT NO health care now.
They AIN'T WOULDN'T HAVE HAD [:-)] no health care even if Obama had given it away for free.

THE ONLY health care that we should be comfortable with is:

* The type that is provided by those people who PASSED THROUGH the institutions of learning that are now in our hands after the STRUGGLE

* The type where the skilled professionals received because our community directed its FINANCIAL RESOURCES toward their education

* The type where we FIRST LEARNED ABOUT THE NEEDS OF OUR BODIES - understood what ails us and then went for preventive medical care and life style changes - while addressing the acute care for emergencies in the traditional manner.

Otherwise we are ONLY going to get "free pills" while the drug companies receive checks from the government for SERVICING OUR BODIES.

CF, I'm not necessarily talking about healthcare although since that is one of the things that he has shown so much conviction on I do think he should be willing to do battle for it. I think he tries too hard to stay in the middle and doesn't take a hard line approach on anything whether it be healthcare, bringing the troops home, not bailing out wall street... I think he's an awesome orator but he hasn't really proven to be strong in his convictions.
