When I was a kid reading '1984', Joe Campbell, and the various fictions about a third world war, i always wondered why they barely accounted for Africa, particularly Orwell... but I think that I understand now...
South America has strong diplomatic relations with the Orient (Eastasia) and SA is also stable enough to maintain their own sovereignity... but when it comes to the resource rich African continent... it is a lot easier to treat the people as 'less than' because of the ethnic differences as they a percieved outside the continent.
Africa, then, is the ultimate Geopolitcal battleground, as each of the major powers seek to subjugate their respective populations, using the need to outfight other nations for the vital elements that keep the grinding industries going...

I see what you are saying Big Mark, but this doesn't strike me as a phenomenon unique to the African continent.
The type of engineered destabilization we are witnessing now is happening all over the world: Africa, Europe, Asia, South America and yes ... even the United States.
