Deconstruction of The Plantation School System - Dr. Denmark Vesey

NCAA president Mark Emmert said ...
"I want to strengthen the association's bylaws to discourage the behavior which led to the Newton controversy. The NCAA on Thursday defended its ruling on Cam Newton but said the case is not necessarily closed.

"We recognize that many people are outraged at the notion that a parent or anyone else could 'shop around' a student-athlete and there would possibly not be repercussions on the student-athlete's eligibility,".

Well, Actually Mark, many people are outraged at the notion that the NCAA earns millions of dollars in TV revenue largely generated by this young man, yet you will pocket 10 times more money this year than Cam Newton and his father put together.

Cam Newton pays your salary punk.

College Football is minor leagues for the NFL.  It is a billion dollar business. Instead of salary the players get room, board, and sometimes paper "degrees" that allow them to teach high school gym.

Brother DV:

I love you bro but I think that you have got it wrong on this one.

I agree with you that men's college Football and to a lesser extent basketball bring in big bucks for the schools. Yes as well the coaches are making 6 and 7 figures while the male athletes get free room, food and groupies.

The truth is that these two sports fund the OTHER sports - male and female. What you are seeing is a big INCOME REDISTRIBUTION scheme which provides for a cadre of other sports (swimming, gold, tennis, field hockey) and the athletic facilities that they are hosted in.

In addition we can't dismiss the fact that in my school, for example, the Black Alumni don't gather back at the school for the "Indoor Volley Ball" tournament. Instead it is the FOOTBALL Homecoming that serves as the centerpiece of this gathering at which scholarship money is raised for additional minority students to attend.

I believe that college athletes should be treated as "work study" participants and receive money in line with what other students do in support of their lifestyle. The program should be regulated to prevent fraud in the same way the existing work study program is.

To tear down the "scheme" because of the exploitation that you speak of will have effects far beyond the issue of correcting the pay gap for the male athletes on the field or court.

My opinion on the issue.
Phuck KC Nulan!!!!

... so?

Why should Cam and his family forgo money to fund the tennis team?

Why not use some of the salary of the Athletic Directors to fund the golf team?

Fuuuuuug women's basketball.

Who wants to see that shit anyway?

If them big girls want to play ball, they can play ball. Why does Cam have to underwrite it?

This is America.

This aint Soviet Russia in the 60's. (Well ... in a way it is.)

Why when it comes to money for young black men we got to get all COMMUNIST up in this piece?

The colleges are BASTIONS of old money capitalism.

Except when a 21 year old superstar needs some loot
