Ground Breaking Study Reveals What We Already Knew ... Obesity Lowers IQ (Aint Sayin' No Names CNu)

Not only is it bad for our appearance, social status and health but scientists say that putting on weight may interfere with our intelligence and lower it.

The latest study that lasted for five years and included 2,200 adults finds a link between obesity and the decline in a person's cognitive functions. Participants belonged to an age group raging from 32 to 62. They needed to take four mental ability tests before the study started and then again five years later.

The tests revealed that people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 20 or less could recall 56 % of words in a vocabulary test, while the obese with a BMI of 30 or higher, could remember only 44 %.

Those with higher MBI (people with more weight) had cognitive decline five years later when their recall had fallen to 37.5 % while the people with normal weights retained their recall timing.

Scientists explain this by saying that it could be hormones that are secreted from fats that could be damaging the cerebral cells and decreasing brain functions or that the brain arteries could be thickening and preventing blood from reaching the brain in time.

These results are serious as it shows that obesity negatively affects every single organ in the body and the fact that the obesity is spreading like a contagious disease is even more alarming.

I followed thus blog because I am a fan of Denmark Vesey, and thought maybe the thoughts here would relate to his name somehow. Instead I've found some serious odd think that disregards simple things like causation and correlation.

Hello JP,

Welcome to the spot.

Appreciate your comments.

I invite people who swing thru to express themselves freely.

Agreement is overrated.

Understanding is King.

So in an attempt to better understand your point regarding what you have found here ... please provide a link to anyplace on the internet where we can find examples of "think" you consider not "odd" and "think" that does not disregard "causation and correlation".

You know.

Like a reference point for "proper" think.

Wait, so are you equating an inability to remember a vocabulary list with a lower IQ??? Did the study actually say anything about IQ?? Cuz I used to be a member of Mensa, and there was a lot of fat folks up in those meetings!

Joannnnna!

LOL ...ahhhh you funny.

Nah. Nah. Nah.

I aint really with these "studies." I'm actually just fuggin with them Footnote Negros, who will not consider a concept until they get permission in the form of a study (edict) by the Scientific Dictatorship.

But, let's think about it.

If we swallow drugs that cause biochemical reactions that ... impact our cognitive capacity (alcohol and prescription pharmaceuticals for example) ... why would it be hard to believe food we swallow (preservatives, hormones, pesticides) causes biochemical reactions that impact our cognitive capacity?

If processed food poisons our bodies ... why wouldn't processed food poison our minds?

Not saying there are not smart fat people.

Hell.

Look where you choose to blog.

What's smarter than that?

You a genius as far as I'm concerned Jo.

I.Q. is potential. Plenty of high I.Q. fools sitting at home playing World of Warcraft. The study mentions decrease in cognitive functions. Not the same thing.

It's always sad to see you scuttle back into your cave when one of your minions checks you.

Obviously limited IQ is not limited to the obese.

so does denmark vesey think joanna has a potentially low iq is because she is obese? wat about rick ross and biggie smalls and marcus garvey?

DV- I would actually be willing to bet that a lot of the people with the higher BMIs had diabetes. Because I know for sure that I can think a hell of a lot clearer when my blood sugar is in the normal range than when it is high.

Of course, now that I got it in the normal range with pharmaceuticals combined with diet, the real trick is doing what it takes to get off of drugs entirely (been lowering dosages slowly but steadily over the past year)
