But before I could start talking bad about the city, my boy drove me out to The Dekalb Farmer's Market. I damn near fell out. Not only was the place rich in produce and natural food ... but beautiful, healthy looking, clear eyed, black people, brown people, white people, Muslims, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics were shopping for vegetables and fruit and things that grew from the earth. Food that 'God had a lil' summin to do wit' as my Aunt calls it.
Wasn't no Doritos. No Holly Farms. No Wesson Oil. No Dasani Water. No Gatorade. No Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats. No Uncle Ben's Rice. No Perdue Fit & Easy Boneless Chicken Breasts.
Just food. Produce. Very little packaging.
It was a sight that warmed my heart. That's when I knew. Our people going to make it. We going to be aight.
Some of us anyway.

"...only industrialized processed food can make a woman's ass look like she had a La-Z-Boy sofa stuffed in the back of her jeans."
LMAO. Tough love I guess.
I Love your spot DV.
lol
Big Ups Anonymous! Big Ups.
Thanks for the love.
But. Nah man.
Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings.
But as long as we all walk around like this is normal ... the worse it will get.
Obese diabetic people are victims of chemical warfare.
Processed food is poison.
You don't have to be particularly intelligent to understand that.
But it does take courage to stop eating the Plantation Master's food.
Imagine if your dog stopped eating what you put in his bowl.
Went out. Ran down a rabbit. Ate it.
Your respect level would go up a notch wouldn't it?
That's what Plantation Negros have to do to the Government / Corporate monolith.
Stop eating what they put in bowls for us.
Sheeeeiiiit, a La-Z-Boy in her jeans, or them two out of order titties on homegirl's back in the previous post's pic...it is what it is.
A mess.
And not even Monique's ass could convince someone otherwise. And that's the thing; it's made to seem normal. It's not totally the person's fault for what robot chicken and all this other fake ass food does to people's body, but it is that person's responsibility to recognize and do something about it.
Effective tomorrow the local Wal Mart here will officially be a "Super" Wal Mart; people are treating it as the second coming of Christ. Where else can you get a dewrag, your prescription filled, a flannel shirt and a pack of franks in the same place?!!
The notion of convenience got folks duped. No one will question where the produce and the abnormally large chicken breasts came from, they just want to be able to get all their stuff and only stand in one line. Guess the pharmacy being in the same building is a good look also, huh? That way they can fat and sick off the food and get "medicine" two aisles down. And no one will question if there is a correlation between the food and the ailment, the medicine and the side effect. The media is now working hard to write off what ails you as "not your fault". I saw a commercial for acne medicine that pretty much stated that your face breaking out has nothing to do with anything you may have done or what you are (or not) washing your face with...it's "biology".
Hmmm...okay.
DV!!!
glad u got a chance to see my beloved DFM!!! i love it there. go once a week for all my goodies. it is truly an oasis in a desert of dry, processed, fat/salt/hfc laden foods.
did u check out the hot bar? and the wine section? man...i take all my out of town guests there just to show off....

Brilliant.
Sista Nurse!
That's your spot?
Maaaaan. I was impressed.
One of those bad boys in every black neighborhood in American would do more for black people than Mandatory Affirmative Action and Free College Tuition.
Hot bar? Wine Bar?
Nah. Missed that.
I'm going back.
Who owns it?
Who runs it?
Seems like a lot of Africans, Somalis, or something.
Indians. Muslims. Very ethnic.
Well run too.
DV,
How long you in the ATL?
Try the Buford Farmers Market while checking things out. A larger more "worldwide" version run by the koreans.
Am I right Sista nurse? :)
However, to be truthful, most of the blacks shopping at either are foreigners. West Indies, africans, South American etc.,etc.
I wanna be as hopeful as you DV, but the majority of American born brothers and sistas just ain't with the program and would rather die than break their current method of shopping at Big Box Cosco.
You just can't act hard while shopping for good organic food.:) forties and chips bra.
Take a look one more time at the customer base and give props to the rastas and the jamaicans like me keeping those places in business. :)
My Godsis took me there last time I was in Atl. I LOVED that place! I honestly thought I was gonna run through there laughing hysterically. But I didnt.
I do have to say, tho, I do believe they have some processed food there, cuz I remember buying cookies. And falafel mix. Anywho.
Id die if we had something like that in DC. We have a few farmers markets here, but theyre just not the same.
L
good morning fam..
@wax,
although i believe the majority of the patrons at the DFM are of foreign descent, there are quite a few american born blacks, whites and others who frequent the market. i go weekly and see some of the same faces...now as far as the market in gwinnett..cannot say i like it as well. i do know the buyers for DFM and they make every effort to buy local and organic. don't know a lot about who runs the gwinnett spot but i am glad that there is one in that area for those who may not have transpo to get to decatur.
dv...yes indeed..the place is awesome to say the least. i am excited each time i head that way. i took a friend of mine who at the age of 38 had neglected his body to the point of developing diabetes and hypertension...he said walking in the market made him feel like a kid on Christmas...gifts and surprises! LOL
and, miss lola..they do carry some processed food items such as cookies and such but i will suggest that next time u are in town purchase your sweet tooth items from the fresh bakery...glad u liked.
ok, i'm done. i could go on and on...
oh, and dv...
if i am not mistaken a vanilla couple owns the market. started years ago due to the lack of fresh food in the area that was easily accessible year round. the original market was much, much smaller than the existing structure...they continued to build out as the demand increased.
very smart idea.
