Welcome to the spot. Glad to have you here.
You ask an important question. Thank you.
"what natural food and/or exercise would help this complex autoimmune disease?"
Soon Plantation Medicine will catch up to the truth that the natural health community already knows: despite the widespread belief that type 1 diabetes is rare and develops from a genetic predisposition, juvenile diabetes is probably being triggered by environmental or lifestyle factors in a similar manner as type 2.
I invite you to investigate the evidence that Pasteurized, processed cow's milk can promote autoimmune disorders such as type-1 diabetes.
It is undisputed that the vast majority of people in industrialized countries (particularly black people) are chronically Vitamin D deficient.
When you take a vitamin D deficient population and pump them full of vaccines and dairy products, it shouldn't be a big surprise to start seeing a huge rise in autoimmune disorders like type-1 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Ascation indicates the causes and preventive measures for diabetes 1 mostly those dealing with healthy eatng and exercise at an early age. I concur with DV and other "professionals" on the continuous effort for "preventive alternatives" rather than "dope maintenance". Keep researching my brother!
