The Stupid Contradictions of Plantation "Health Care"

Though health professionals often blame high-fat, high-calorie fast food for contributing to Americans' expanding waistlines and related health woes, more than one third of the nation's leading hospitals have fast-food restaurants on their premises.

A study done earlier this year found that nearly 40% of hospitals said they had fast-food franchises on their main grounds. Several hospitals actually contracted with two chains simultaneously.
In addition, one medical center reported a fast-food chain in one of its associated hospitals. And another hospital that had closed a fast-food restaurant in 1999 subsequently opened up a hospital-owned restaurant with a similar menu.

Most of the fast-food restaurants mentioned in the survey were burger chains such as Hardee's, Wendy's and McDonald's. Others had pizza franchises and one had a Subway.

The fast food joints are for the convenience of friends and family of patients, for the bottom line of the hospital, but not for the patients.

Even on those rare occasions when you catch something interesting, and this is one of them, you're guaranteed to FUBAR it and turn it into something too stupid for further serious consideration.

The systemic redesign of care delivery would be a VERY GOOD THING with which I'm sure DMG would agree. It's also an opportunity for economic development and innovation.

But anything that complicated and constructive is vastly beyond the reductionist absurdity you've shown yourself capable of wrapping your mind around, still less fit into one of your ignant extremist "memes".

The above stupidity is a prime example of what happens to the brains of people who live on a diet of the dead flesh of cloned factory raised animals and processed genetically modified carbohydrates soaked in pesticides and growth hormones.

The obvious contradiction of a so-called "health care" facility selling the most unhealthy food in the history of mankind ... escapes the cognitive capacity of the supposedly educated Plantation Negro.

The misplaced hostility and disproportionate contempt of Plantation Diet Eaters, directed at those who champion natural food, is fueled by the same sense of resentment and jealousy that often caused conflict between Plantation slaves and Free Blacks.

What a person eats is the greatest reflection of what they think of themselves. The more you love yourself ... the less likely are you to eat a diet that poisons you, that makes you sick and that makes grown men grow tits.

CNu and DMG pick little playfights because deep down inside they are arguing "If uh PlanTayShun Diet Iz Good Enuf Fo' Me ... Why it aint good Enuf fo' you!".

Well... Cuz I'm better than you negro.

You cats are still slaves, more comfortable with Massa or his technocratic substitute dictating your diet than you are selecting what you ingest yourself.

Eat what you want. Sniff vaccines up your nose. I'm going to continue to sing the praises of natural food and natural medicine.

Yeah, yeah...,

If your underlying logic always leaps to sinister rather than simple stupid. 99.99999% of what appears to be sinister is in fact nothing more than simply stupid.

The hospital isn't trying to make anybody sick, (though it does quite a good job of that through its hygienic and infrastructural practices) which practices haven't been revised in decades.

Not sinister, merely stupid.

The point intentionally missed by folks desperately wanting to believe in sinister motives, is that hospitals reduce most completely to REALLY POORLY RUN hotels.

Now, the hotelier that recognizes its limitations catering to the needs of patient friends and family with its own cafeteria services, and, loses money on those same cafeteria services because those same friends and family visiting or staying with the patient don't want jello, applesauce and underseasoned lean meat and steamed vegetables - and will instead go down the street to McDonalds or KFC - simply brings the fast food that those folks are going to eat anyway in house as part of its extended hospitality program.

Fact is, I'm shocked there aren't more McDonalds at more hospitals given the pervasiveness of the Ronald McDonald house charities that specifically support and cater to the accomodation needs of family for extended stay hospital patients.

But please, whatever you do Her Side, don't think about the subject extensively or encourage your extremist host to even consider thinking about the subject constructively where an ignant-assed meme reducing the situation to one of sinister intent is so readily and freely available to the ignant, untutored, and unthinking mind.

lol,

momentary lapse of reason deevil..,

I slipped up and forgot I was dealing with a neurotic adolescent female for a second.

No way in hell your arrested development could ever be about anything of consequence.

No way in hell you're up to the task of constructive improvement of care delivery.

No way in hell you're up to the task of educating or persuading anybody about anything of any consequence.

It's just a meme-arena for your narcissistic self-gratification.

In any event, it's not really as though there's any possibility of any ordinary folks adopting your frivolous and unsustainable dietary habits, or anything else of any moral or social value.

CNu... should I assume that you do not see the Hegelian dialectic at play here? Whenever an entity does something that seems to be against its best interest or its stated goals, there is a reason behind it, true or false?

From my understanding, that is precisely what the Hegelian dialectic is about.

1. Doctors say fast food makes you sick.
2. Hospitals feed people fast food.

Conclusion: More patients for the hospital.

CNu said...

CNu... should I assume that you do not see the Hegelian dialectic at play here?

Joanna dayyum...,

Don't assume anything.

Conclude with full conviction that I meant exactly tha'phuk I said about hospitals as clumsy 5th rate hoteliers and hospitality providers making clumsy attempts to cater to and profit by the preferences of friends and families of patients.

It's really not that deep, and, it's definitely not as sinister as this chickenheaded propagandess would have you believe.

Please stick with the integrity of the respectable crew and don't fall for the childish okeydoke being peddled hereabouts.

Joanna said...

CNu... I do not take my views from any one source. But when my independent research, my reading, and my conversations with others all points in the same direction, there has got to be something to what is being said. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck.....

Now, I am coming from the place of someone who is a food addict, trying to overcome that addiction. When I see little kids screaming for chicken McNuggets like they are fiending for crack, I cannot help but believe that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE has nefarious motives for distributing this shit....

Reading Fast Food Nation shed a little light on the subject, as did watching Food, Inc.

When I see a profit making enterprise (fast food restaurants) partnering with another profit making enterprise (the hospitals) to promote what they CLAIM they are trying to move people away from, I cannot help but be suspicious.

You parrot Plantation NONSENSE about "providing" "care".

Negro.

You still eat pork.

How in the fuck can you "provide" "care" for other people.

Explain that to me. How can a fat ass middle age black man with Man-Boobs provide CARE for anybody?

You don't know how to "care" for your own fat ass.

How in the fuuuuuuug are you going to PROVIDE CARE for another grown person?

The entire concept of SELLING "care" to human beings is Satanic WANNABE SLAVE bullshit.

PEOPLE CARE FOR THEMSELVES.

The Government, Doctors, Drug Companies, Technocrats, Politicians (The Plantation) peddling bullshit about providing "Health Care" ... is EXACTLY why we have McFucking Donalds in the same facility they are cutting Negro's colons out 'round the clock.

I'm commenting from the hindsight perspective of someone with 9 years of direct, on-the-ground consulting experience in the healthcare sector, three of those years as a consulting practice director.

I am no fan of American healthcare, I have no vested interest in healthcare, and I've been inside more hospitals over the last decade than all the readers of this blog combined net of DMG and Submariner (both fulltime practicing physicians)

The for-profit motive is deeply problematic, however, stupidity rather than ruthlessness is the dominant factor in the decision making that takes place in these organizations. Most such decisions are made by MBA/MHA professional administrators rather than by physicians.

Trust, Deevilina the professional propagandist got it right when she titled this post "The STUPID contradictions". Everything imputed to these organizations beyond stupid, however, is flatly and simply mistaken.

The challenge boils down to how do you go about influencing them to make smarter decisions, and in the process, make healthcare smarter, less expensive, more efficient, and with better outcomes for patients. THAT's the grail.

Not this medieval conspiracy mongering that Deevilina takes perverse delight in perpetrating under the misleading guise of "Blackness"...,

Nah, the people I cared for got world class network and systems infrastructures that improved care delivery, helped prevent medical errors, and streamlined billing and payment.

I'm merely pointing out in all seriousness and earnestness that lemming like stupidity or near-sightedness, or whatever it is that you want to chalk it up to - aside from sinister intentionality - accounts for the STUPID behavior you put your finger on.

Here's the thing, your perverse intentionality to demonize stupidity, rather than constructively and creatively improve the awareness and decision-making capabilities of the stupid - does nothing whatsoever of value to help remedy the situation.

The most serious practitioners in this space, or at least the ones that the hospital most surely dread, are trial lawyers expert in their use of the courts to penalize stupid, malfeasant or even just mistaken conduct on the part of healthcare providers.

sheeeeeiiiiitttttt.....,

As many lawyers as you've got in your little neck of the woods and literally on your johnson - it seems to me that you're WAAAAY beyond lawyered up enough to pro bono take on and rectify any single class of malfeasant activity upon which you set your gaze.

OTOH - the only thing your alleged best efforts at blogospheric propaganda can do is to make folk more ignantly and impotently oppositional to a system that they will all nearly inevitably intersect with in the course of their lives, and, which they could all constructively engage en masse to improve through market, legal, and political processes if any of y'all were actually serious about contributing to the common good.

Maybe someone should actually see how much money is made (and lost) with chronically ill obese patients.

D.SMITH said...

^DMG:

http://content.healthaffairs.org/cgi/content/short/hlthaff.28.5.w822

Annual Medical Spending Attributable To Obesity: Payer-And Service-Specific Estimates
Eric A. Finkelstein, Justin G. Trogdon, Joel W. Cohen and William Dietz

"In 1998 the medical costs of obesity were estimated to be as high as $78.5 billion, with roughly half financed by Medicare and Medicaid. This analysis presents updated estimates of the costs of obesity for the United States across payers (Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers), in separate categories for inpatient, non-inpatient, and prescription drug spending. We found that the increased prevalence of obesity is responsible for almost $40 billion of increased medical spending through 2006, including $7 billion in Medicare prescription drug costs. We estimate that the medical costs of obesity could have risen to $147 billion per year by 2008."

So $147 billion was the estimate two years ago, which doubled over ten years...who knows what it is today. That is a whole lot of money being thrown down the toilet by people everyday who can't make intelligent choices when it comes to what they put in their bodies. So maybe you don't get down with chia, spirulina and sprouted grains; it doesn't have to go to that extreme (although when weighing in the benefits, there's nothing "extreme" about it, nor is it as expensive as it's made out to be, seeing as there are behavioral and eating habit changes that go along with the change in diet). But people need to wake up and make better choices as to what they eat.

And with figures like the link present, how can you deny the relationship between these fast-food/processed food corporations and the "healthcare" organizations in this country? People can't feed themselves properly and eat who knows what, then land in the hospital somewhere. True healthcare is being able to take care of yourself to avoid having to be laid up on somebody's table under the knife, or stuck on some prescription medication for the rest of your life in the first place (nevermind the side effects that will have you stuck on some other medication or up on somebody else's table). To ignore that is to subscribe to this notion of convenience that the majority of people in this country are stuck on in the first place: eat a whole bunch of bullshit because it tastes good and is already prepared for you in a lab somewhere, then go take a pill or go pay for the surgery to get your big ass back down to a normal weight. That's not a personal attack on anyone who has struggled with weight issues...but it damn sure is for those who continue to ignore it and walk around talking stupid shit like "oh, you gonna die of something anyway."

Michael Baisden had a show on a while ago talking about men and the fear of getting prostate cancer checkups...you know, the whole finger in the butt thing. That's all well and good if you down with that, but what in the hell happened to PREVENTION??? Why is it that no one wants to talk about how you prevent these diseases in the first place, rather make you belief you were just unfortunate and "caught something" by chance?

$147 billion...that's why.

DMG said...

What happened to prevention you ask? I'll tell you what happened to it: patients are humans. Humans become set in their ways, and most humans will take the path of least resistance.

Anybody remember the second law of thermodynamics--entropy from chemistry? (of course you don't).

Put simply (and maybe not precisely): a system tends to go into disorder if energy is not put into the system.

It takes energy to get your fat ass off the couch and exercise. It takes energy to schedule and then show up for that appointment with the dietician. It takes energy to change your habits.

Don't drop prevention in my lap, and act like I'm new here.

And by the way you are talking medical COSTS. Do you have any idea how much most physicians LOSE taking care of some overweight non-compliant grandmother who doesn't want to take her medication that keeps her ON this planet, let alone eat properly (forget about exercise).

Again, not new here.

And by the way, about that finger in the ass thing, your here, our host spent several days (maybe weeks) railing against screening and prevention for one of the most deadly diseases for black men, why don't you ask him?

And why do you all take every opportunity to blame all of YOUR (as in patients) choices to smoke, drink, drive fast, not wear condoms, eat like a glutton, not exercise, do drugs, etc. on physicians?

Maybe we should do away with insurance all together, and have folks just pay up front. You want trauma care? Open your wallet? Your wife is about to drop twins and their breach? What's your credit rating?

It's not enough that we have to take care of thankless patients?
