But unfortunately, the reality of the danger we are courting has not been changed by the discovery of at least two mistakes in the thousands of pages of careful scientific work over the last 22 years by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, the crisis is still growing because we are continuing to dump 90 million tons of global-warming pollution every 24 hours into the atmosphere — as if it were an open sewer.It is true that the climate panel published a flawed overestimate of the melting rate of debris-covered glaciers in the Himalayas, and used information about the Netherlands provided to it by the government, which was later found to be partly inaccurate. In addition, e-mail messages stolen from the University of East Anglia in Britain showed that scientists besieged by an onslaught of hostile, make-work demands from climate skeptics may not have adequately followed the requirements of the British freedom of information law.
But the scientific enterprise will never be completely free of mistakes. What is important is that the overwhelming consensus on global warming remains unchanged. It is also worth noting that the panel’s scientists — acting in good faith on the best information then available to them — probably underestimated the range of sea-level rise in this century, the speed with which the Arctic ice cap is disappearing and the speed with which some of the large glacial flows in Antarctica and Greenland are melting and racing to the sea.

It did not just start with Climategate
Perhaps the most blatant example is IPCC's Second Assessment Report (SAR), completed in 1995 and published in 1996. Its SPM contains the memorable phrase "the balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate." You may recall that this 1996 IPCC report played a key role in the political deliberations that led to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
(Mr. Ben Santer has admitted to making outrageous , unscientific alterations of the seminal 1995 IPCC report that concluded man was responsible for global warming ..In turn , he has passed the buck onto goverment officials who demanded this bogus conclusion be reached - come hell or high water ... Was then Vice President Al Gore one of thode unnamed government oficials? .. There was certainly no higher - ranked US governmental official at the time who maintained such a bizarre fetish on this issue ..This was after all the same Al Gore who sacked climate scientists who didn't share his apocalyptic vision of the future of the globe :))

Isn't it that GlacierGate did not result in an "overestimate", but that scientists do not know/cannot say with certainty at what rate the glaciers are melting? A new study has yet to be produced with correct calculations.

Doesn't that contradict the above claim? And where is the evidence to suggest scientists are underestimating? Actually, UN scientists say the world's glaciers are melting at an accelerated rate, how much faster is it expected it to be by Gore?

I read the whole thing and I get the sense of it now. For different reasons I think it's pathetic nonsense - he's singing from the same ol' hymnsheet: blame it all on China while praising America as Captain Planet with the potential to save the world.
