$100 Million In Perspective

While Plantation Negros tweet Wyclef $5 at a time to help Haiti ... The Technocrats are stealing money, giving it to Israel and spending it on no-bid contracts faster than it can be printed.

Obama offering Haiti $100 Million after a disaster, is like after your house burned down, Will Smith offering you $40 bucks.

What is so "black" about sitting on your ass, in your comfortable chair posting one narcissistic rant after another, (which amounts to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help those human beings in dire need)?

You would have been indignant if Obama offered a billion.

How much more of a punk-assed BITCH can you be?

Sub-Saharan Africa is currently threatened by AIDS with over fifty-million people expected to die from the disease. Over fifty billion dollars have already been spent to combat the terrorist threat while the World Bank reports that for only eight billion dollars, potable water can be provided for every human being on the planet, which translates into saving tens of thousands of lives (given 70 percent of the world drinks unreliable or contaminated water). This illustrates the irascible soul's rule over the rational soul to the detriment of both the individual and society.

Reflecting on why he had been booed by angry black youth at a meeting in Chicago, Martin Luther King explained:

"For twelve years I, and others like me, had held out radiant promises of progress. I had preached to them about my dream...I had argued them to have faith in America and in white society. Their hopes had soared. They were now booing because they felt we were unable to deliver on our promises. They were booing because we had urged them to have faith in people who had often proved to be unfaithful."

In the aftermath of the worst natural disaster to ever strike Haiti, the American foreign secretary was recalled to Washington. While outlining the American response to the disaster, Mr. Obama was surrounded by the national security establishment. Even the Secretary of Agriculture was on the Rachel Maddow Show tonight discussing his ministry's role in Haitian relief efforts. So while $100 million may not be an overwhelming sum compared to what Israel gets it is nonetheless a significant sum for the island nation. Also the monetary figure doesn't capture the national prestige and resources mobilized in support of the Haitian people.

As much as I love cogitating international relations, at this point I'm focused on how I can personally make a tangible contribution. Got a week off next month and plan to go down there and help out.

What is so "Black" about sitting on your ass while people in Haiti were eating dirt for dinner, long before any earthquake struck?

Apparently the Cuban doctors are already on the ground, and have treated hundreds of the wounded in their field hospitals already.

And you Doc?

II,

I've been to Haiti. My father's home was at the center of this earthquake. I've been working on projects there since medical school. I don't sit on my ass. Thanks for chiming in...you were on time as always.

I already posted a call for doctors and nurses (surgeons especially...ring a bell?). Been trying to help my boy from med school get BACK there to his clinic.

And you Counselor?

Our tit for tat is beside the point. People are in the street dying NOW. You are either moving, or standing still. Which one are you?

Sub,

Check out the Partners in Health webpage for physician opportunities.

http://www.pih.org/inforesources/news/Haiti_Earthquake.html

You don't have to be a physician to help. Expertise in communications, engineering, food safety, logistics, etc. Hell, even in getting people talking...as long as it's constructive and doesn't pull the spotlight off those who need it most.

Just heard a interesting comment on CNN. Something to the tune of 4 billion dollars to Haiti from the US and the only thing that they can show is a effective aids campaign. Hell, I know where the money went...

DV - I am actually disappointed in your analogy.

Will Smith's money is his PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Barack Obama, a millionaire, is NOT offering $100M of his own money to Haiti. Instead he is offering them PUBLIC MONEY.

DV - I assure you that over time some Negro is going to make the claim - "The Reparations owed to Haiti by France and the USA is $20 billion" - the Americans offer of $100 M is a slap in the face.

For these people their bondage to this past has them FAILING to see that the Haiti of today does not have the basics to defend their own people.

Denmark, if you were a serious information broker and not just a trickster rabbit, you would deconstruct the "eating dirt" meme.

It would take more than a couple of minutes to do so, though... if you wanna do it right.

DMG you are more ignorant and more of a coward than even I thought.

If the American people appreciated the crimes committed against Haiti and the quantity of money stolen from the American people that island nation could have been developed 10 times over before this earthquake.

But scared, small minded, house Negro, go along to get along Plantation MD's who want to do nothing but make little self-serving gratuitous public gestures about what they are doing to 'help' ... by sending band aids are so busy defending massa that they can't see an attempt to address the 200 year old root of the problem when they encounter it.

Let me help you with that.

Haiti needs money.

Haiti needs to develop.

The reason 50,000 Haitians are buried under rubble as we speak has as much to do with American political policy and the global manipulations of the military and financial industrial complex as it has to do with that earthquake.

Plantation Negros & Plantation Crackas who have resigned themselves to accept this illegal "war" (ponzi scheme) to the tune of $430 Million Per Day ...

Is part of the reason Haiti wasn't offered $100's of millions BEFORE THE FUCKING EARTHQUAKE.

Filthy lies. Lies only an idiot would believe.

Hey dumbass... the U.S. has given Haiti $3 billion in FOREIGN AID since the start of the Clinton Administration.

The Doc said...

Do you guys think that a big part of what's wrong with Haiti is a sort of residual punishment for the fact that they stand alone as a beacon of resistance to imperialist rule. Are Haitians today still paying for the defiance shown by Toussaint L'Overture, however long ago it was.

See Pat Robertson, and his idiotic comments about Haitians making a deal with the devil to defeat the French. It makes it apparent that in many ways what happened way back when is still on the minds of those in power.

Calling what the U.S. gives to Haiti "aid" is like calling loansharking by the mafia "charity". So-called "aid" has been one of the most destructive weapons used to keep poor nations poor.

Teach Intellectual Insurgent. Teach.

Between you, me, Chosen and few thousand like us we can free the Plantation Negros from their self-imposed mental slavery.

These Bandwagon Negros grasping for a chance to publicly "HELP" by making gratuitous public statements about future plans to volunteer and posting links where people can send canned food and baby wipes miss the point.

Here we have House Negro apologists searching for a chance to prove their loyalty to the Plantation by fully availing themselves of every opportunity to shift responsibility for the crimes against Haiti from those who profited from those crimes to the victims of those crimes.

Suggesting Haiti was victimized by Haitian criminals is like saying Iraq is currently being victimized by Iraqi criminals.

I don't understand why DV and DMG cannot see each other on this point. DV is right that Haiti has been screwed by international policies of the US and the other Western nations, a fact that UBM likes to ignore. And II is right that foreign aid is one of the biggest impediments of growth in the so called developing world.

BUT in Haiti as a practical matter, doctors and nurses can give aid to the injured and set up medical triage, which is needed when you have almost a hundred thousand people displaced by a natural calamity.

How is DMG a coward for wanting to go to Haiti to HELP the injured and infirm? As a medical doctor, I'd imagine he has the tools to do so.

Meanwhile, DV can you think of something normal people can do to help the Haitians during this emergency? And I don't mean grandstanding online either;)

DMG, II and Denmark,

I come down in the middle. I have learned a TON reading DV's insightful post on Haiti. "Haiti" America's Gaza Strip." Nice, cuz.

But, at the same time, I agree with DMG that actions speak louder than words. The Book of James speaks of this.

Once I get my nut sack in its correct place, I hope to renounce this damn lifestyle of emails and text messages and get out in the world making a difference, freeing my soul from the bonds of "rational" self-interest.

I mean it as a compliment when I say that Denmark Vesey is a brilliant propagandist and I think he has the capability and talent, if he so chooses, to make his site a serious rival to Huffington Post. What I would like to see here is a guest blogger on the ground in Haiti responding to our questions and concerns. Firsthand accounts from a Haitian citizen journalist, academic, NGO representative, or aid worker would be invaluable.

I understand the point DV is making with “$100 million In Perspective.”

This very same week we find out that:

“President Barack Obama will ask Congress for an additional $33 billion to fight unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of a record $708 billion for the Defense Department next year,

The extra $33 billion in 2010 would mostly go toward the expansion of the war in Afghanistan. Obama ordered an extra 30,000 troops for that war as part of an overhaul of the war strategy late last year.

The administration also plans to tell Congress next month that its central military objectives for the next four years will include winning the current wars while preventing new ones and that its core missions will include both counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations.

The 2010 budget contains about $128billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That figure would rise to $159 billion next year under the proposals prepared for Congress.” -- AP News

“This record amount for America’s already enormous military even surpasses the Bush Administration’s largest annual expenditures for wars.” – Antiwar

However, we all know why Israel gets what it gets; why the Military-Industrial Complex gets what they get and why Haiti gets what it gets. It’s a simple matter of having highly organized and powerful lobbies with a singular focus, versus being unorganized with a scattered focus.

Mahndisa,

Thanks. I think our host is just contrarian. I stopped paying attention to most of what he says months ago.

I want to set the record straight. I don't disagree that Haiti has been screwed for years. I've watched it, I've yelled about it, I've tried to help where I can. The last administration had ZERO interest in the island. This one has some interest. The coup ousting Aristide, and the propaganda surrounding his Presidency was a travesty. We know all that. My problem with MOTI on this one is that history lessons are not the point right now.

It's time to get off our asses and move. Sitting cross legged, sipping drinks in the VIP section having deep discussions about Haiti's history with the soft handed, manicured elite isn't helping anybody at this moment. That should have been discussed years ago. And I'll be happy to discuss it again after we get through the acute phase of this tragedy.

And yet... Denmark spits on $100 million and wants the U.S. government to give Haiti billions! Ain't that deep?

The memes are colliding all over the place when it comes to Haiti.

Consider how "black partisan" types talk about the Haitian people. It's a perfect pile-up of racial romanticism and political pity-mongering. To wit:

When it comes to kicking French ass and seizing their independence, Haitians were the most awesomest black people who ever lived. But when it comes to demanding good governance from their own leaders, they're as helpless as babies.

Get the contradiction?

LOL-- when it comes to demanding good governance from their own leaders, Americans are punks bending over grabbing their ankles, ready for an ass-ramming without grease.

I operate off of Kwame Nkrumah’s axiom: “Thought without practice is empty. Practice without thought is blind.”

However, I totally disagree with DMG. History lessons are always on point. One of our fundamental problems is our failure to learn the lessons of history.

Makheru,

History lessons are fine, talk about them all you want, just as long as it's not just your lips moving while your hands and ass are sitting still.

While you are edifying your intellectual curiosity, Haitians are now about to go on 5 days without food and drinkable water. People are dying of injuries they shouldn't be dying from.

Do you think Haitian's sleeping next to dead bodies give a fuck what you've learned today?

It's not about you or me. It's about them.

Everything else is just talk.

makheru bradley said...

Of course, and that’s precisely why I responded to your ludicrous statement about history.

Everything else is just talk. – DMG

That’s not to say that these digital conversations serve no purpose.

It appears to me that you spend that you spend a lot of time here doing “everything else” so obviously talking has great significance in your life.

Makheru,

Not sure how long it takes you to type, but I wouldn't consider the 30 seconds it takes me to respond to self-serving statements as a significant portion of my time.

There's a time for talk.

There is a time for action.

Human beings are dying by the hundreds, and hundreds of thousands are suffering.

What time do you think it is?

Perhaps you all should have been talking and making moves to help Haiti before this disaster. I certainly hope come July you'll still remember where Haiti is located. I'm sure you'll have moved on to another "meme" long before summer.
