Not A Sista
A Sista Would Stand By Her Man While He Is Being Crucified. This Chick Is Playing The Hurt Little Victim While Negotiating Cash Payouts. Being A 'Sista' Has Nothing To Do With Complexion, Melanin or Skin. It's About The Capacity To Bond With A Brother.

oh?
Because?? She has pale skin and blonde hair? Seriously DV, explain why Sophia Loren is and Elin is not. And explain it in a way that most can understand por favor. If being a sista is subjective and it's based on someone seeing "soul" in your eyes, what makes you think that Tiger didn't see that in her?
Is Jessica Biel a "Sista" to you? I'm curious about this.
Yeah, Dv no more code talk it's killing me!
Anon, why should anyone "decode" what you see as coded? There is no code.
And NEA if it's subjective then why are you asking DV to participate in your li'l blonde/brunette non-sista/sista game? It's you, not DV, who sees this is abt one's hair and skin tone.
"Anon, why should anyone "decode" what you see as coded? There is no code."
3-pointer!!!
game over.....
press time....
DV.net is school
as CNu said...tiger got a reality "brah" check!!!
If Elin had soul (i.e. if she were a Sista) and hired Intellectual Insurgent to be her press manager, here is what she would say to the world -
I'm tired of all of you hyenas trying to portray me as a victim and play out your pathetic agendas on national news. This situation is between my husband, who I LOVE very much, and me. NO ONE ELSE so butt your big fat noses out of it.
To all you $2 hos who want to enjoy your 5 minutes of reality tv fame at our expense. Please enjoy it. You will be washed up and forgotten after five minutes and I will be married to my husband and raising a beautiful family long after this unfortunate incident is a distant memory.
Then after the cameras shut off and they are in the privacy of their home, she grabs a golf club and lets Tiger know that shit better not ever happen again.
KW,
In my view it's definitely not subjective. I said "IF it's subjective" because there seems to be no clear definition according to y'all. I was honestly tring to see if I can get it, but it just seems like I won't, which is fine.
To me, a "Sista" has always meant and means a "black" woman. I would use other terms to say what DV is trying to get at, which is how a person handles a situation. But "Sista" would not be one of those terms.
II
"Then after the cameras shut off and they are in the privacy of their home, she grabs a golf club and lets Tiger know that shit better not ever happen again."
Why not.. She is being paid to be his wife.. She is his employee.. Chick ain't made one damm birdie. So she should deal with it or bounce! That's a real sista!
Dina...
"Then after the cameras shut off and they are in the privacy of their home, she grabs a golf club and lets Tiger know that shit better not ever happen again."
I see. So you approve of domestic violence.
Fact is, unless Tiger assaulted her she got no business wielding a golf club or a spoon for that matter. Besides any woman who marries a rich celebrity and demands money is doing nothing but making the same business transaction as any woman on any street strip. In other words, it's a ho-trick thing. Tiger would've done better to have a surrogate give him kids, hire a nanny to raise them and pay the women of his choice 200,000.-- per year to make themselves available to him at his leisure. 20 mil? Shoot. That p..y better sparkle and have pixie dust coming out of it.
...maybe he was driving away from his house quickly because she was chasing him out of the house saying, as you quoted: "...that shit better not ever happen again".
So, this sista thing is getting kind of played out.
Let me see if I can pin this down for you all since you can't seem to come up with a decent definition.
Are you all trying to say that a "sista" is an intelligent, confident woman, who has her mans back, would do anything for her family, and does not have anything to do with ethnicity, country of origin, or melanin?
Mike Fisher,
...and clap to the beat, but that's another topic of discussion.
Anyway, nobody here would want the low-points of their homelife played out for the cameras worldwide. I say shove a camera in the faces and windows of the next non-celebrity couple in your neighborhood to have marital trouble. I've stopped reading about this. The guys job is to entertain folks by hitting a ball into a hole. He's good at it, but that doesn't mean he needs to apologize to anybody but his woman if he did something that wronged her.
NEA,
So you've not ever come across the phrases "White sista" "Latino sista". Umm ok.
You see it according to race, but it's not an objectively established truth that sista solely refers to Black women, so your understanding is subjective. Just like everyone else on this blog - it being subjective does not make it less true, only proof that you feel it in your own way.
...one
KW,
The word is subjective. It has no universal meaning. Some women will only believe it refers to a BLACK woman of U.S. birth. Others will have other definitions.
Why is it so hard to pin down a very basic definition rather than all this esoteric crap and avoidance?
Are you all trying to say that a "sista" is an intelligent, confident woman, who has her mans back, would do anything for her family, and does not have anything to do with ethnicity, country of origin, or melanin?
Bingo!! We're getting there Doc.
He's good at it, but that doesn't mean he needs to apologize to anybody but his woman if he did something that wronged her.
Exactly!!
Y'all trying to pin Denmark Vesey down on a definiton?
Child, please.
So II,
Why didn't you all say that in the FIRST goddamn place instead of all this other nonsense?
The definition I laid out has NOTHING to do with "soul in the eyes", or any other thing.
Now how many of the "Sista's" you all are talking about live up to MY definition? And how do you know Elin Nordegren ISN'T?
By the way, that's my personal definition of wife--aka KRG.
"The word is subjective." DMG
... can you please give us an example of a word that is not subjective?
Seven
Doc, it has everything to do with soul in her eyes.
How do we know Elin doesn't have it? Because, if she did, she would have told the world to F off and mind their own damn business. She wouldn't just stand there looking stupid while her husband is getting humiliated. She would defend him publicly.
And, if she really had soul, her head would have rolled off her neck already - "you're going to pay that ho how much to keep quiet? Out of my baby's college fund? Oh hell no, what's that bitch's address? I'll shut her ass up".
"Y'all trying to pin Denmark Vesey down on a definiton?
Child, please." Big Man
LOL.
Thank You Big Man.
Denmark Vesey is the definition of definition.
The same cats crying about the "Global System of White Supremacy" do not realize they confer supremacy by subscribing to subjective definitions while pretending their objective.
I don't make any pretense of "objectivity".
I simply challenge ANYBODY to submit a more compelling definition.
Fuck all this arguing.
Now. Who wants to put their definition of "Sista" up against mine?
II,
As was said above "soul in the eyes" has a different connotation to you than it does to me. But you know this. Why are you fighting?
"How do we know Elin doesn't have it? Because, if she did, she would have told the world to F off and mind their own damn business."
Maybe you would have. Maybe thats not how she deals with things. She doesn't have to live up to your ideals. Please tell me you aren't one of those women who...having witnessed your husband murder two people in cold blood, would still defend him as innocent. All I'm saying is nobody can judge that woman. You don't know what goes on in that house, what was said, what they as a couple PLANNED to say to the media. Nothing. You are making prounouncements with insufficient evidence.
Maybe she doesn't roll her neck...I don't think that's a requirement for intelligence, confident, or grace...and I don't think they'll need a "college fund".
I know alot of ways to fuck with someone that does not require public displays of anger or loss of bearing. And they hurt more than a fist in the face.
MOTI,
You have no definition. That's the point. For all we know, your definition of a "sista" are transexuals who like to rhyme and perseverate about "liberalism".
Denmark
Well, since I took a ride on that roller coaster, I'm trying to let folks know what's up.
Bottom line. It's this cat's blog, he gonna define stuff how he like. If you ain't peep that yet, you ain't been paying attention. And if you have peeped it and you still arguing, then you just like arguing.
DMG
Seven... Hmmm. Good choice, but you're still a little off.
All words were created by people and then assigned definitons.
Like, "black."
We all agree what they mean. Until we disagree about what they mean. Crazy as it may sound, one day we may all disagree about what the word "seven" means. Hell, we didn't always have the concept of the word "seven" in the first place.
Your definition of a sista is cool. But, it's just yours. It works for you.
Big Man,
We need to get together and go out to a bar. I'll be sure to bring up the subjectivity of seven when we are dividing up the tab. I'm sure it will have a definite meaning at 3:30 in the morning.
As for my "definition", which for that word I STILL say does not exist, is a mere substitution of a description of my wife.
"Bottom line. It's this cat's blog, he gonna define stuff how he like"
Bottom line, Big Man, is ... who doesn't?
Big Man,
The man can define things the way he likes. But he doesn't. He prefers to dodge when asked for clarification.
Seriously, of all places, I thought this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEkomaBTppY
would have been up by now at the spot.
DMG,
Even your precious little word "woman" is hard to pin down, "Black" is hard to pin down, "Doctor" is hard to pin down. "Seven" is hard to pin down.
All of these words have a plurarity of meanings because language depends on context.
It depends on geographical, temporal, cultural, socio-economic and historical context for meaning(s). It depends on the speaker/writer and hearer/reader and the social dynamics between these two for meaning(s). Hence it is political, even the personal is political. (See how sista became such a contested word)
But always language, as are words is subjective and shifting and always, always, always, language has meaning(s).
Granted you read alot, but evidently not in Philosophy and Literature because the silly basics we are arguing here would never have been an argument, or as it now turns out your education in the Humanities.
I guess you haven't read Hegel's non-theory of language or Jacques Derrida's On Grammatology. Peep them if y'got the time. Hope they ain't too heavy for ya, otherwise Labov and Geneva Smitherman drop some gems.
Happy reading.
LOL! Thanks DD.
DMG ... I'm the most clear person you've ever encountered in your life.
Look around. My definitions transcend mere words.
I'm so "clear" it disturbs you.
You are uncomfortable encountering a group of BROTHAS & SISTAS not particularly impressed with that indoctrination you confuse for an education.
I'm forcing you to consider ineffable qualities, great refinement underlying commonplace appearances, statements so correct they don't have to be bold, so poignant they don't have to be pretty, and so true they don't have to be real. I'm forcing you to understand rather than know.
I'm rattling the chains of your mental bondage.
Later, when you are free, you will thank me for it.
Yes. An empty head is quite clear.
It's clearer than a head squirted full of monkey virus juice and antifreeze.
Does anybody know if that shit causes brain damage?
Konwomyn,
Sista is not a word. Sister is. It's OK if you want to coin a term, and make it mean whatever you like. Shows creativity. More power to you. Good luck.
Perseveration is a sign...
Free me, your definitiion of a sista is ?
I thought sista meant, black woman, black girl, universally speaking, a woman not a man? Please help me.
DV, I am not trying to put you down, I would not come to your blog if I did not want clarification. Your cool, Mr.
DMG,
Who says it's not a word??? That's silly; it's like telling me African American Vernacular is not an English dialect or that urban slang has no cultural significance or that Haitian Creole is not a language. That's what some Plantation Crackkker rubbish from waybackwhen, step into 2009 and check out the scholars I recommended. Seriously.
"Sista is not a word." Plantation MD
TRANSLATION • "Massa aint uhprove no word called 'sista'! Who iz you Konwomyn tuh use language tuh expwess yosef in uh manner not created and managed by Massa!!"
"It's clearer than a head squirted full of monkey virus juice and antifreeze."
...so you agree that your head is empty. Now, that's progress.
KonWomyn,
Speak how you like. Misspell how you like. Claim whatever you want.
Shfgiuye. That's my new word. Guess what it means. Have a great weekend.
^^And there you have it. The end of another intellectual ass whipping.
The kid without a ball, takes nothing, and goes home.
Good job Kay Dub.
LOL!
Get y'self to a library and crack a book, bway! Oops bway ain't no word neitha coz it ain't propa lyk da crakkker's English, ooowee I dun did it now.
KW and DV.net 10 - DMG - 0
TKO.
KW,
My point is when I say "Sista", most people will know what I am talking about because I am pinning it down to a "black" woman. If "black" is subjective (it is), then that's another discussion.
I've heard the term, "Latino Sista", which means an afro latin woman to me.
Big Man,
"Y'all trying to pin Denmark Vesey down on a definiton?
Child, please."
LOL. I guess I should just quit right here, huh?. Brotha DV is a trip.
DV,
I love your blog. I'm so glad I got introduced to it. It's a nice complement to my "plantation education", but obviously I got a lot of learning to do. BTW, I'm with you when it comes to vaccines. Much respect!
The end of that ass whooping is when I wrote my first post and you couldn't answer it.
KW, now I know that you are just as deluded as our host. Noted. My dear, I don't know who taught you how to score a fight, but you don't get points for getting smacked upside the head. Now, I challenged you before...go back through the archives, and please show me where MOTI laid a glove on me. Ever.
...please
take your name--off-your-phone--my wife went through my phone-andmaybecallinyou...
LOL!
NEA
If you notice you gave your definition of what sista is; therefore it is personal. It is how you understand the word based on your experience and knowledge of the world - no? That is how you come to your meaning of the word, but it is not neccessarily true for another person in Canada or Jamaica. That is why I say it's meaning is subjective.
Assuming your understanding of the word is universal is not true; it is the word that is universal and meanings plural.
Hope you get me now.
DMG,
Your subversive attempts to hurl profainities as insults are pitiful and punkish. Quit the Tourette's antics and get back on your meds or act like a man.
Whilst you're in the library reading up, I'll check through the archives and see how you scored.
"KW, now I know that you are just as deluded as our host." Plantation MD
See the pattern people?
Anyone who sees the world differently than the Plantation MD (actually "The Plantation", because there is no difference between how he sees the world and how the Plantation presents it to him) is deluded.
DV. II. Kay Duub. That SISTA who left him in college because she wasn't feeling him.
Ooops. I mean because "she watched too much BET and wanted a thug".
Whatever.
Truth and Facts to the PMD are whatever supports his fragile ego.
First, a "sista" is something particular. Which means she can be known. Such a state transcends the subjective/objective paradigm. If though she finds herself directed by a thousand perceptions, she may drift into radical autonomy. At this point the "sista" would cease to
exist. Therefore, a "sista" cannot be radically autonomous as by definition she would embrace and exemplify the true, right and good and this requires full engagement with the world.
If a cross-section of the black talented tenth can't draw to some conclusion about the truth of the "sista" when they very much represent the heirs to this conceptual reality then how is this not clear-cut evidence of a radically autonomous paradigm?
"Therefore, a "sista" cannot be radically autonomous as by definition she would embrace and exemplify the true, right and good and this requires full engagement with the world."
"If a cross-section of the black talented tenth can't draw to some conclusion about the truth of the "sista" when they very much represent the heirs to this conceptual reality then how is this not clear-cut evidence of a radically autonomous paradigm?"
seems in this case RA serves the greater good by a RA definition if one perceives correctly
if an accepted or traditional definition is limited/limiting in scope then why not seek to embrace one that serves the greater good?
Blackness (jes grew) is our unique and open-ended overcoming of traditional, enslaving, trans-european predator/prey relationships (The Plantation).
That's why enslaved peasants find themselves endlessly fascinated with - and preoccupied by - everything we think, say, and do.
That's why enslaved peasants are drawn like moths to a (the) flame.
That's why enslaved peasants endlessly (yet eagerly) humiliate themselves with their feeble and failing attempts to emulate what they imagine they understand of Blackness. (the functional equivalent of watching some Bruce Lee movies and then jumping into the Octagon)
That's why, as goes Blackness, so goes America, and by extension - the world....,
That's why DenmarkVesey is school and you realize there are no substitutes....,
""That's why enslaved peasants endlessly (yet eagerly) humiliate themselves with their feeble and failing attempts to emulate what they imagine they understand of Blackness. (the functional equivalent of watching some Bruce Lee movies and then jumping into the Octagon)"
LMAO!!
yeah CNu seems like the process of gettin' "IT" it the b*tch!!
at times i can empathize with da "peasants"
shiftin' from one mental paradigm to another is a challenge
Autonomy is the quintessence of Blackness, everything else is claw clacking at the bottom of a Plantation crab bucket.
KW,
Wasn't Tourette's, my dear. Nothing was involuntary. I meant every word.
Look at these fools being led around by R2D2 in drag. Yeah, that thing is autonomous all right.
Tiger's worth a billion dollars. He's entitled to a side piece.
