...what? No fried chicken?

Whew... read a bit much into this one, didn't we?

She looks Black to me

DMG said...

Ill: You CANNOT be serious.

The Doc: Don't play dumb...you are better than that.

The Doc said...

Not playing dumb, friend. I'm just not pavlovianly trained to see watermelon and immediately think racist black stereotypes.

Yourself?

DMG said...

Don't try to talk about Pavlov's dog with me, friend.

And don't act like a picture with a white girl and watermelon on THIS BLOG THAT DAILY DISCUSSES "Plantation", "blackness", and disdain for black men marrying white women is not an attempt at provocation.

KonWomyn said...

Umm ok. All I see is beautiful sista supposedly saying eat healthy. She looks mixed race Black to me - unless known otherwise. But why get caught up the race matrix?

The Doc said...

Yeah, I just read it as another of Dv's art photos. My reaction was, Heh, why is there watermelon behind her? But when you say, what, no fried chicken, it suggests to me that you saw no art in it at all, she might as well have been in blackface as far as you're concerned.

LOL! "eat healthy" aight.

DMG said...

That's right...keep mugging for the camera.

DMG said...

You all obviously see what you want to see.

If you saw a medium brown black boy, with nappy hair not ONE of you would say he's white or "mixed" race.

STOP FRONTING ALL OF YOU, IT'S NAUSEATING.

KonWomyn said...

DMG,
No. The only reason the specifics of her race became an issue is because you mis-identified her as white and because you have appointed yourself race cop.

Identifying a Black boy as "medium brown" has to do with complexion and if playing race cop you fail to take issue with that, then identifying a Black sista as "mixed race" because of a)heritage and b)in response to your claims, is a non-issue.

And just as some of us agree on what we see; you through race-blinkered eyes see what you do.

DMG said...

NEEGRO PLEASE. I misidentified her my ass. Do you know this girls parents? Personally, I see her as woman, period...but again I don't know what's actually in her jeans (or genes for that matter). It is a reasonable assumption that this is in fact a woman. Just as reasonable, with her lack of melanin, straight hair, and generally European features that this girl is MOSTLY of European decent. Now if you are into that "one drop" rule (which is a racist way of saying contamination), knock yourself out. WHAT OTHER REASON would MOTI put up a white woman, in a provocative, "come hither" pose (...and I dare you to have a body language debate with me), posing in front of one of the mother of all stereotypically "black" foods--watermelon? Please, give me a plausible reason. And don't give me that "sista saying eat healthy" bullshit...and save the crocodile tears about misidentifying race, and race blinkered eyes, etc, when you all DAILY bring up the subject. I called it correct in my first post, the rest of you including the host are doing nothing but fronting. I call bullshit.

KonWomyn said...

DMG,

If calling people by the "one drop" rule is racist then that's a retrogressive, classic one-dimensional response. I have friends who are of the same skin tone as this sista who proudly self-identify as Black and mixed race Black if we wanna get specific. People like Mariah Carey and Smokey Robinson seem to self-identify in a similar manner -things dun changed since Massa's "one-drop rule".

Whatever "European features" you see, I don't. Not to say there's no such thing as European features but it's not the first thought that comes to mind, but rather what are "specifically European features" anyway when they're essentially derived from African ancestors? Like you, I do see a woman sitting in front of some juicy looking watermelons - seeing this posted at the Schl of DV, I figured the msg is be healthy. Being a straight female, I'm lost on all the sexual connotations of this pic.

And one more thing, could you refrain from referring to me by the n- word; whether said as sarcasm, endearment or otherwise, KW don't play that. I don't refer to you or anyone else as such and you don't refer to me as such, comprende? Gracias!

DV, kindly clear up the confusion tell us who this sista is and your motive in putting up this pic coz this is getting a li'l much.

KonWomyn,

Bullshit. בולשיט. هراء
Kjaftæði. Hevonpaskaa. Kuhscheiße. Ko lort. Kotoran sapi. गाय गंदगी...

Shall I continue? I might have to download the Japanese, and Chinese characters, so let me know if I haven't gotten my point across...

KonWomyn said...

If your point was to showcase your ability you can say one word in many different languages then your trivial point has been made.

DMG said...

No...my point is that no matter how YOU slice it--it's STILL bullshit. Hell you can put syrup on it, like my grandmother used to say...don't make them pancakes.

We BOTH know you are stretching hard for this nonsensical picture. Anyway, why would fried chicken be offensive?

KonWomyn said...

We who? You and your grandmother?
Aight. Then let DV clear this whole thing up for y'all.

DMG said...

MOTI ain't clearing up shit! You well know he will choose ANY side other than mine.

Give it a rest...

Anonymous said...

DV,
So who is this woman? And what message were you trying to send when you put the picture up? She IS white, right?

KonWomyn said...

Sorry, but you can't really expect him to take your side if you're going to be asking abt "fried chicken" and calling it a "nonsensical picture".

DMG said...

LIKE I CARE. The picture is obviously put up, without reference or comment to solicit a response. Our host is either at his computer terminal giggling about how I hit the nail on the head in the first post, or is trying to find a way spin this to your viewpoint. If you all are too "evolved" (...you know I really mean dumbassed), to see that, I suggest removing your heads from your collective asses and get some of that fresh air and sunshine MOTI likes to talk about.

You jump on me only to be contrarian. You strain to see "blackness" in the whitest of people. You talk about "brothas" and "sistas" like these are real descriptors. Then when cornered, conveniently make up your own definition. What would you have said if this picture actually HAD a bucket of fried chicken sitting squarely and prominently between the womans legs? Eat healthy my ass...You guys are trying WAY to hard on this.

KonWomyn said...

Doc,

LOL! You're taking this way too seriously. For all you know DV is sitting at his laptop laughing, like I am at how much controversy a pic can create and what an untitled post can reveal about one's Pavlovian inclinations to play race cop.

Straining? Who me, nah not really. Identity as you know is socially constructed along a continuum. Where one is positioned or positions themselves is dependent on their lived experience. So if your lived experience means an inclination to see the world through race-blinkered eyes that neatly divide up Black and White not on a continuum but into categories based on physical features such as skin tone, then that's you. It ain't so for everyone, Bra.

And if it was a bucket of fried chicken then maybe DV wld be putting her up as crucifixion of fried chicken-loving folks. And if the bucket was placed in btwn her legs then pity her for thinking posing with a dead bird is sexy.

I think you're the one trying WAY too hard to get everyone to see your point of view. DV please give the brother a C for his spirited efforts and explain this pic please.

DMG said...

Yes, straining. You strain any harder, you'll bust a blood vessel. I usually suggest a higher fiber diet, but the shit you are trying to birth here isn't from your colon. Race blinkered eyes? KonWomyn, PLEEEAAASSEE. Black folks are always trying to claim somebody is black, especially when it's convenient. Jesus, Einstein, Michael Jackson's blond kids, white women sitting in front of watermelon...etc. As long as there's one drop (or even the faintest possibility)...that's evidence enough.

I make one comment, and you sycophants get the vapors. "...oh, he was just putting up a picture as a reminder to eat healthy". How were you able to type that with a straight face?

Seriously, you are a woman who usually is able to put up a decent argument. Here you are on the level of Thorpuppy.

And if you believe our F-student host is in any position to give out grades...then perhaps you seeing a black woman in an "eat healthy" advert makes sense.

DMG I am certainly glad you're here. I think we all are. Though you've made some cringeworthy statements I can agree with a coupla snippets of your discertation.
Konwomyn I just want to to have one of my babies.

Ill,

Which statements made you cringe and why?

KonWomyn said...

LOL, Ill that can be arranged ; )

My mind said, "The melons look better than her. She has no melons."

Let's not forget that she IS sitting with her legs wide open...

The Doc said...

The elephant in the room being, of course, that even if she were black, it would still be a picture of a woman sitting on a mat with watermelons in the background. Everything else, as DV puts it, would be your own perspective.

There are some dark black people who hate watermelon. The woman's color is irrelevant here, only what those big pink things in the background do to your big pink thing at the top'a yer head. The goal here, is to challenge your own assumptions about race, and the stereotypes people use to define and control how you think about them.
