What's up good people.

DV - i dig the dialogues, perspectives, patterns of thinking of this blog; i've been checking it out for quite some time, and finally decided to join some convos, if i may.

I initially wanted to be a hater, because Nicki Minaj has certainly been marketed as a sex-pot; but there's some other cuts that touch on some of her deep personal issues...

Nonetheless, album/'youtube hits'/mixtapes, deep issues or frivolity, her flow and rhymes are pretty tight. Still, the best female rapper out now IMO is indeed Jean Grae.

A female's perspective of Em's "Stan"?

Taco Day is cool, but it doesn't really display the full extent of Grae's lyrical ability.

Nicki, on the other hand, has a more commercial flow. And I don't mean that in a bad way. She'll be the chick who can rap, but also make a top 40 hit. To draw another analogy, she's the Jay-Z to Jean's Nas.

For those who wanna hear the lil lady talk. She's got a really cool sense of humor, (for those who didn't notice how darkly comical parts of Taco Day were) plus she's easy on teh eyes too.

Damn... Jean is a beast!
Just listened to a bunch of songs on YouTube and this (Taco Day) is her weakest song.

Co-sign. IMO, Hater's Anthem is one of the best joints by her & although I really dig Taco Day it doesn't really show her lyrical abilities.

Dunno abt this tho':
"To draw another analogy, she's the Jay-Z to Jean's Nas."

Sorry but Nicki Minaj doesn't even come close to Jay. I'd say this is like Li'l Kim to Jean's L-Boogie, 'cept in this case Li'l Kim's selling more units.

Jean Grae is the dopest female out period. Jeanius was damn near classic and Nick Minaj was murdered by Joe Budden on the BET cipher. No comparison. Her music catalog can't even compare to Jean's.

That shits still corny. Rap was supposed to be CNN in the hood, observe:

Well, I don't mean in terms of lyrical ability. Just that Nicki would be the one who's a good rapper, but can also make a very commercial song. Jean's the raw lyricist.

Ur's is a pretty good analogy tho. :)

Taco day is the best story rap ever written!!

Maybe "Dance with the devil" by Immortal Technique or "You never know" By Immortal Technique featuring Jean Grae on the hook are better. Maybe...

Peace!!

Especially if you hear the long version of Taco Day and not the video version.

No other story rap besides the above Immortal Technique joints I mention even come close.

Sorry slick rick!!

@ Doc, I got you, co-sign ; )

@ Riskay
If Fifty or Li'l Wayne rap about their Benzes and private jets do you object to that? If Kanye raps about diamonds in Sierra Leone do you still dismiss it and say "it ain't abt the hood"?

Rap reflects reality as an art. Rappers are motivated by fame, money or what speaks to their social conscience -regardless of whether it's the hood, the burbs or the globe. Rap can't be put in a box.

If u'wanna hear tracks abt the hood talking abt similar situations of abuse and teen probs checkout My Story and My Crew by Ms Grae.

Mos' def, she's a Jeanius!
