Right on target. That's part of it, especially with the last three. In some cases there are some forms of cancer that seem to be increasing, others declining. Good point, glad to see there are still thinking folks in here. By the way, some of the cancer rates have to do with increased longevity. Increasing age is one of the risk factor for breast cancer. Another is exposure to estrogen which takes into account age a onset of menses, age at menopause, age at first live birth, obesity (as fat increases peripheral conversion of estrogens), etc.

One of the reasons age is a risk factor has to do with the increased damage to DNA over the course of years. Each time a cell divides the information needs to be copied. Over the course of say 80 years the likelihood of a mistake is rather high. Think of how often some cell types divide.
Open up a Word document and without hitting the backspace button, type the alphabet as fast as you can over and over. See how many errors are on the page.
Increase the likelihood of a copying error, increase the risk that the error will result in an abberant gene, etc. There's probably more to the story, like a decrease in efficiency of ones immune system and the complex interplay that occurs.

That's really a difficult question to answer, as each component of the immune system may have a myriad of effects in ways we haven't discovered yet.
