Act Right

Stylistic MF ...
I've heard of women that act like that ... All persistent & competitive.

It's an interesting concept. Can't say I can relate.

Women act ... the way they are compelled to act.

BEING DENMARK VESEY
I'm sittin' in a little cafe drinking a gunpowder green tea, minding my business and laughing at Stylistic MF's dismantling of DMG. There's an east Asian looking woman sitting across from me on her cell phone engaged in a very heated conversation in a language I don't recognize. It might be Farsi. Yeah, I'm sure it is. Cool. I make a mental note to tell her to Big Ups Ahmadinejad for me. I read on the blog where Stylistic MF says to DMG: "I don't know how this computer works either, but it's sure been effective in delivering messages to you." I laugh out loud. At which point Mrs. Iran turns to me, smiles and while covering the microphone of her cellphone, makes a writing motion with her right hand and says in the most pleasant British accent "... pardon me, may I borrow a pen?". Damn. This chick is strikingly feminine. Before I even have a chance to process, I simultaneously smile, nod my head and say "Yes" in my most assuring tone. As she turns back to her conversation, I start to pattin' my pockets, looking around my laptop and digging through my briefcase. Shit. I aint got no damn pen. Aint this a bitch? I done already told this woman "no problem. I got you." Shit. I dig through my brief case again. All I find is a broken green crayon. My daughter gotta stay out of my case. This is getting embarrassing. Shit. Maybe this crayon will work for her I think to myself. Nah. Don't do that. I get up and walk over to the people at the cash register. I cut in line and interrupt their transaction . "Uh ... excuse me. " The hippie looking white boy looks up. "My man. Let me a borrow a pen." He looks at me blankly then says: "I'm sorry. We only have one."... Aint this a bitch. Mike Fisher might be right about that "Global System of White Supremacy" after all, I think to myself. Muhfuggah probably got a case of Uniballs right next to the register. I imagine ol' girl is on the phone with the Iranian embassy advising them on their nuclear negotiations with the NWO. I gotta get her pen now. I go back to the table grab my keys and head out the front door. Thank God the whip is parked right out front. Beep Beep. I unlock the doors and dig through the console looking for a pen. CDs. Plastic straw. Ballet slippers. One boxing shoe. Pistol. Clip. Cookie crumbs. A book on WWII. Compass. About $6.40 in change on the floor. No pen... Aint this a bitch? I'm invested now. I close the door and pop the trunk. I see one of my son's old book bags. I dump it out on the floor of the trunk. Protractor. Notebook. A sandwich bag of unidentified crumbs. Boom! A pen falls out. I grab it and look at it. Shit. This aint no pen. It's a mechanical pencil. Fuck. They still using mechanical pencils in this day and age? Well whatever. Later for this chick now. I gettin' tired of this shit. She probably a terrorist anyway. I slam the trunk and walk back into the cafe. Half-way mad at this point. I walk over to her table where she is still engaged in her conversation. She sees me, and immediately says into her phone "pardon me for a moment" in Farsi. She looks up and smiles warmly. She is aware of the theatrics I just put myself through on her behalf and seems genuinely appreciative. She says "Thank you ... so much. I didn't mean to trouble you so ...". Shit. I'm damn near blushing now. Girl got game. "Nah. Nah it's cool. No problem. No problem at all".

Men act the way they are compelled to act too.

"Compelled"= forced, coerced.

Would you elaborate?

KonWomyn said...

I hear ya Stylistic, but I figured "compelled" is more a woman's social or personal circumstance that makes her act the way she does - certain things society enforces on a woman and in resistance she might do the opposite, like Margaret Garner. Or as a mode of survival she complies yet all the while re-defining society's idea of womanhood all on her own terms; like the enforcement of single motherhood and instead of living up to Babylon's expectation of Black women's failure to mother she raises the youths as best she can.

...In terms of relationships well there are less Black men than there are women; even far less when you think of those in prison. Given that a free Black man who's an eligible bachelor aint easy to comeby, how many Black women wouldn't feel compelled to do what she gotta do for a good looking and successful Black man?

We live in a ratrace; that's the crux of one's compulsion and y'gotta hve a relativist to overstand how it: what one woman wouldn't do; another would. But having said that; there are rational limits to what one does and there is a social/personal compulsion on men's part that is inextricably linked to what women face.

...peace

Elaborate?

What a woman does or feels is not a product of her will. It is a response to ... or the lack of ... masculine energy in her life.

Much the way a plant is compelled by the sun.

Hey KW.

I read all your entries. Much respect.

I clicked on "Margaret Garner," but nothing came up. I'd like to know more about her.

I agree that everyone's actions and choices have a direct correlation with their circumstances. Relationships between black women & men have been a great experiment on this. As good black men become more scarce, (some) black womens' behaviors become more desperate.

It is human nature to desire to live in harmony & balance- woman & man together, but where do we draw the line on how far we'll go to make it happen?

I'm no judge, just a philosopher.

DV,

Thanks for balancing out your comment with the cafe story. I was bout to get defensive and compare your comment to the sexism of Eve so-called being created from Adam's rib, yada yada yada....Lol.

not sure if plants or animals have will...but innate instincts based on the creators law that governs them

brah..,

sounds more like a "will" has humans and operates whether the humans are conscious of its operations, or not.

if circumstances dictate the operation of this will, than the humans in its thrall operate under what amounts to a "law of accident".

please correct my unpacking of your statement if it's mis-taken.

Denmark Vesey said...

"law of accident"...

Interesting CNu.

What does that mean?

dx said...

@CNu

...dont know of any "law of accident" i know of cause and effect...

circumstances is not the "will"...circumstance is a state, place, time ect...the will of humans is the power to choose the choices circumstances present

not all are conscious that it is the "will" that is the power to choose...and say its the circumstance thats doing the choosing....particularly what is good or not good for oneself

hope that is clearer

peace

CNu said...

Gurdjieff taught that in our undeveloped state - we are subject to the "law of accident".

Unless we take our lives in hand with both consciousness and will, we cannot effectively do anything.

It is precisely to exempt oneself from the "law of accident" that one undertakes the Work.

John Shirley prepared a succinct breakdown of the Work.

CNu said...

brah dx

the will of humans is the power to choose

and

not all are conscious that it is the "will" that is the power to choose

if "will" is acting through humans, and is the seat of agency, then isn't it more accurate to say that "will" has the humans, rather than that the humans have "will"?

I mean, do beavers build dams and spiders spin webs volitionally, i.e., because they think about and choose to do these things, or, because those behaviors are simply part of their extended phenotype, i.e., "what it do"?

dx said...

@CNu

"we cannot effectively do anything."

i hear ya...and agree to an extent however is not "effectively" the operative word here??

humans will always "do" something whether it is effective or not...there is evidence of that on this blogspot

..i will go as far to say who knows or determines whats "effective"

we might say that what we "do" is an accident simply because we werent conscious of what we were doing

conscious and consciousness is key

what is undeveloped state?

CNu said...

one incapable of sustaining consciousness for more than a very few moments...,

one incapable of self-observation and self-remembering...,

one in which the thinking center erroneously attempts to do the work of the emotional center which in turn erroneously attempts to do the work of (interferes with) the working of the instinctual or sexual centers, and so on....,

an undeveloped state is the ordinary waking state experienced by 99.9999999% of humans who mistakenly/arrogantly/ignorantly imagine themselves the agents of their own destiny.

Fact is, they're just broken machines, unconsciously stumbling and bumbling around under the law of accident and a lot of self-rationalizing internal narration.

tha's what I read when DV wrote;

Women act ... the way they are compelled to act.

well.., actually, more like when he very candidly elaborated on the existential particularities of finding and fetching that pen.

DV...

"Women act ... the way they are compelled to act."

That's complete rubbish.

People may be enticed by the masculine or the feminine or by whatever else may entice them. But compulsion is a whole other thing: Compulsion is the negation of will and choice, and thus of self-responsibility.

Come on folks, look at what his initial elaboration was:

"What a woman does or feels is not a product of her will. It is a response to ... or the lack of ... masculine energy in her life.

Much the way a plant is compelled by the sun."

So what he's saying is:

A woman is mindless like a plant, a man is her sun and determines what she chooses to do or not to do.

(((shakin' head)))

"DV"'s bullshit comes out of a deep-seated male chauvinistic impulse that he tried to clean up with his Cafe story.

But hey, if you folks, especially the women in here, want to drink this guy's cool aid, be his guest.

just wondering.....looking for a bit of clarity.

Michael Fisher said...

Before I answer these questions, how would that clarify my comments about "DV"'s proposition as to women's lack of will?

the good nurse said...

no worries mike. it is not that serious for me.
i do not interpret his statement the way u do. i have free will as a woman and as a child of God. i understand that it takes much more power to withhold power, than to release it.
i have a clear understanding of my position and love that i have been created female.

i respect ur opinion. just don't always agree.

Michael Fisher said...

good nurse...

"i have free will as a woman and as a child of God."

As a woman you certainly have free will. As a child of God, not.

But, to answer your initial question. I'm a single father, my mother died of breast cancer thus my parents aren't together anymore, and I'm secure in who I am.

wow....i'm gonna tell u what i sense youre sayn...correct me if im wrong...

that DV is mistaken, arrogant, ignorant, he is a broken human being, imagining he is the agent of his own destiny...does this also fit you??

i think i follow some of what youre stating....our erroneous attempts to control destiny

i was speaking to concious choices not destiny...

the ego in a dysfunctional state would make those assumptions you stated....but if one's conscience is awaken to what you mentioned, why cant one correct the dysfunction??

maybe not total...but begin to correct...he begins to repair, remember, sustain consciousness at longer periods and so forth

would seem to me that the law of accident and self rationalization would be superseded by a higher law... consciousness
