Rude? Yeah. Poor Taste? Yup. Bad For Business? Probably. Somebody Had To Do It? Mos Def
During this era of Manufactured Consent, Herd Like Conformity and Mindless Obedience to Corrupt Authority - stepping out of line for any reason is an act of courage. When you step out of line and happen to tell the truth it is an act of revolution. Kanye For President.

I dunno here. The guy is a screwball. He had nothing of value to add at that night's event. He needs mental help from a professional.

Denmark could do with some professional mental health also.
Fucker didn't progress intellectually past the age of 16.
What's your deal, DV? Dad too strict with you?
Well GDawg.
That is exactly what most people are saying. Today anyway.
And since most people are saying it, you can rest assured Undercover Black Man, who confuses truth with consensus, is waving the same flag too.
I'm attempting to make a bigger point here.
We live during an era of Fake Wars, Fake Terrorist Attacks, Fake Viruses, Fake Vaccines, Fake Money, Fake Food, Fake Sex, Fake Medicine, Fake Politics, Fake Presidents, Fake News, Fake Pregnancies, Fake Marriages, Fake Mortgages and Fake Education.
Americans have been conditioned to SHUT THE FUCK UP.
WHAT Kanye said or did is of little importance. However, during this time of Patriot Acts and The Panoptic Age, Kanye had enough courage not to just SHUT THE FUCK UP. His little act of Social Disobedience was a "snap" of the fingers to wake Americans from their slumber of mass hypnosis.
He probably does not even realize the value of what he did. But he the balls to do it.
Kanye was more relevant in 30 seconds than UBM will ever be in his entire life.
In the grand scheme of things ... he's more politically relevant than Barack Obama is at this point, who is turning out to be another Go Along To Get Along dupe and useful tool to pacify milquetoast intellectually lazy peasants who wish to believe the Promised Land is reachable via their recently acquired and completely leveraged SUV.
DV
"But he (had) the balls to do it"
So does every drug dealer, bank robber and home invasion perp. Think your confusing mental illness with herioc acts for social change.
Casper ... I don't understand what you are talking about.

Main Entry: bully
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: a person who is habitually cruel to younger or weaker people
Synonyms:
ruffian, thug, rowdy, yob, hooligan, aggressor, assaulter, hoodlum, punk, attacker, bullyboy
Rude? Yeah. Poor Taste? Yup. Bad For Business? Probably. DRUNKEN TANTRUM? SHO' RIGHT!
During this era where celebrities compete for publicity; outrageous, attention-grabbing, mindless stunts like these are a sure way to get week-long press coverage. Kanye's stunt has riled his fans and even incited closet racists to come out in their droves on forums across cyber space. One might think these alarming attacks on 'Ye would be the concern of the Blackest Man on the internet; who might also admonish 'Ye for his bullyish ways, instead he's earned the respect of the Blackest Man on the Internet. He disappointingly equates punkishness to rebellion.'Ye's opportunistic and bullyish swagger is exemplary of the rebel persona some celebrities have, which is not to be confused with resistance to conformity. A faux rebel streak is vogue for the famous.
It is NOT an act of courage against the coroporates. NEITHER IS IT stepping out of line, BUT RATHER STEPPING IN LINE WITH WHAT STARS DO. There is no truth in this. It is a punk act. Simple. No revolutionary minded person would champion this.
Kanye's act is tired.
Obama called him a jackass.

Obama's act is tired.
Kanye called him a puppet.
Kanye was wrong and I won't justify his move as a strike for liberty. But you have to ask why do he and Serena elicit such a public discussion when Ben Rothlisberger stands accused of rape and no mention is made of it all during the NFL season opener. These controversies say more about us than the actors involved. For example, we have a very convenient leak by the president when he has said nothing remotely similar about his political opponents.
...And in the real world where people uncover real truth:
The British oil trader Trafigura has offered to pay out in a historic damages claim from 31,000 Africans injured by the dumping of toxic waste in one of the worst pollution disasters in recent history, the Guardian can reveal.
...Thousands of west Africans besieged local hospitals, and a number died, in 2006 after the dumping of hundreds of tons of highly toxic oil waste around Abidjan.
...Official local autopsy reports on 12 alleged victims showed fatal levels of the poisonous gas hydrogen sulphide, one of the waste's lethal byproducts.
...They have until now denied the compensation claims, and their lawyers repeatedly threatened anyone worldwide who sought to contradict their version. They launched a libel case against BBC Newsnight, forced a "correction" from the Times, demanded the Guardian deleted articles, and yesterday tried to gag journalists in the Netherlands and Norway with legal threats.

You don't really have to ask, 'cause you know the damn answer.
Same reason why ESPN magically decided to do a special on "sportsmanship" featuring Serena, TO and MJ, with a special guest mention of Kanye. It's easy to peep the game over there.
Now, to DV's point and very interesting musing of sister Konwomym.
I still don't agree with what Kanye did. I don't think being rude just for the sake of being rude is cool. Like I said, he has a NATIONAL platform with his blog and his music. Anytime he wants to comment on that video thing, he could do it. I think DV is giving him too much credit for doing somethign that he needed to be high on yak to pull off. (Yeah, he was sipping all night long.)
Sister Konwomyn makes an interesting point about celebrities and how they use their fame to create these rebellious personas. All while being pretty dependent on the "system" for their well-being.
I remember the biblical parable about the widow and her mite, and it seems to apply here.
However, I like DV's idea that people have to draw their own line in the sand and decide when they are going to speak and when they are going to be quiet. As I've said before, everybody draws their own line and it's pretty stupid to try to tell people where their line should be. Kanye drew his line, I disagree, but I do understand that was his human right. Now he can live with the consequences of his choice.
Oh, and I think it's silly to get mad that Obama called Kanye a jackass in an off the record comment.
Hell, I've long thought Kanye was a jackass, and his behavior at the awards show did nothing to change my opinion.
But, even mules have something to say sometimes. Ask Balaam.
DV
Casper ... I don't understand what you are talking about.
DV Kanye bitching over a fake music video award is nothing note worthy... is the point! It takes more balls to break into your home at night and risk death via your glock than what he did! Agreed?
Uh ... actually I don't agree Casper.
I've long documented the value of Hip Hop as one of the few exceptions to the epistemological hegemony exercised by the Plantation.
The Plantation DEFINES Everything.
Plantation Negros and Plantation Crackas adhere to the definitions and the valuations of the Plantation without question.
When Kanye said FUCK YA'LL. Beyonce's video was best.
He challenged the Plantation's monopoly on the assessment of worth.
It reminds me of when a young Cassius Clay said "I'm The Greatest".
"I'm The Prettiest"
"I'm The Best".
Ya'll Plantation Negros were mad then ... and it took you 20 years to come around.
20 years from now, ya'll will be on Kanye's dick too.
Take it from "THE BLACKEST MAN ON THE INTERNET".
If he had not been drunk perhaps his declarations may have may some sense.
I saw no political gain from his personal indulgence of that night. It's no secret that Beyonce's husband Jay Z gave him his break in the biz. I mean it was pure self interest at work here. Nothing more nothing less.
Too bad for the cubans but folks pointed out when BO was elected that, in some instances, he would be MORE rightward leaning than GW. So, who is surprised? I ain't!
Big Man that was definitely not an off the record comment. It was a gratuitous piling on by the president and he knew it. The usual deference which extended itself to the racist remarks by LBJ and Nixon up to Bill Clinton's sexual dalliances don't apply to Obama and he knows it.
I hadn't seen either of these videos so have no opinion on Mr. West's antics, except to say that they were entertaining and rude. However, I will say that Beyonce is sanctioned by the very plantation that you speak out against DV. She has a nice voice but rarely sings anything except love songs and has been rocking that nasty weave forever. In what way should Beyonce be propped up by an anti plantation Negro like yourself?
And don't get me wrong, lest you accuse me of being a hater; I think she has a lot of talent that has gone to waste and she was pretty without the nose job...
And yes Submariner and BigMan tacitly allude to the real reason why the media has made such a big deal out of this; they're Black. The mainstream media has been depicting Blacks unfavorably since the early days of radio and television! The last few years have showed these Black women who are beautiful and intelligent but canniving and untrustworthy, take your pick from 24, Nip Tuck, I love New York series and so forth. The fact that Serena Williams caught so much flack DESPITE the WRONG call that the judge made, the fact that Kanye West's outbursts are front page news and the fact that our President called him a jackass are proof in the pudding. All of these are really non issues put out by the MSM to distract us from what's really happening in the world.
MB
The account I've read of the exchange said that Obama's comments came before the actual formal interview began and when he and the reporters were engaging in what he assumed was small talk. From what I've read, traditionally, these moments have been off the record. It appears that a rival news agency, in this case ABC, was listening to the interview by CNBC and ran with the comments as being on the record responses. That news agency has since apologized for those actions.
Now, your point that Obama should have been more careful is a good one. In fact, he originally hedged on commenting on Kanye, and after he said his piece, he reminded reporters that he had more important things to discuss.
It seems to me, that Obama was not given the basic courtesy given to many of his predecessors. Now, we can argue he should have expected that, but that's a different argument than whether or not his comments were off-the-record.
My bad, I was talking to submariner, not MB. Excuse the mistake.
For example, we have a very convenient leak by the president when he has said nothing remotely similar about his political opponents.—Sub
Exactly. Would the POTUS, even in an “off the record” conversation with the media dare to call Joe “The Heckler” Wilson an asshole? There’s not that many Bud Light’s inside the beltway.
It was a gratuitous piling on by the president and he knew it.—Sub
Dat true and it was somewhat similar to his Rene Marie moment from last year’s campaign. But, for what purpose—the vote of Olympia Snowe?
OBTW is Fiddy a plantation negro for saying this about Kanye West?

I've long documented the value of Hip Hop as one of the few exceptions to the epistemological hegemony exercised by the Plantation.—DV
In the case of the most popular form of Hip Hop, those documented exceptions are more reactionary in that they diminish human possibilities. For example:
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=101623526520476&ref=share
These were the comments of one of my comrades when I sent this video out in an email:
[“Many of the behaviors of the hip hop generation are the result of "new" ideas that have developed in the last 30-35 years. 1/3 rebellion against European Puritanism and 1/3 black folk expressing themselves as the diametric opposites of white Puritanism: aka black hedonism. 1/3 stems from our internalization of white sexual projection. That speaks to the behavior but the fact that "adults" can't see what is wrong with this form of "dancing" for babies is a pure breakdown of common moral/cultural/spiritual sensibility.
Now when you catch them dry humping the next day they will tell you they were only dancing. What can you say-- nothing. I'm assuming these thirty-something parents are eager to become grandparents.]—Bro. Justin

Bro. Makheru, DV constantly implores folk to breed like roaches and drop another 6 billion on collapsing economies and the planet's collapsing ecologies...,
The BMOTI MUST believe that all that dry humping and baby getting is the highest of all possible spiritual virtues.
Obama's "leak" was as "unintentional" as Paris Hilton's sex tape.
Basically, he could align his sentiments with White America...while still maintaining plausible deniability to retain street cred with Blacks.
GIHO beat me to it, but you're on the money. I just saw this on Twitter posted by Obama News; its the unofficial BO newsstream playing on Joe Wilson, Jimmy Carter, Kanye, Prez O & Ms Swift.
http://politiclolz.com/2009/09/16/funny-pictures-jimmy-carter-joe-wilson-barack-obama-kanye-west-taylor-swift-scandal/
Y'all done made up your minds, I guess that's it then.
Personally, I think the man expressed his opinion. Same way he did with Skip Gates.
It's not hard for me to believe that Obama believes Kanye is a jackass. There is no reason for me to doubt that given everything I've seen from him.
Now, if cats believe he purposely let his jackass comment leak, so be it.
DV
"When Kanye said FUCK YA'LL. Beyonce's video was best.
He challenged the Plantation's monopoly on the assessment of worth."
DV your stretching reality.
#1 This is the same person who bitched that he should have won a prior fake awards.
#2 If he really believed such then why the backtrack. There is no jail time for such annoucements!
#3 What is the meaningful positive change or effect of his personal opionion concerning 2 music videos even if he had written & released a track about it.
Kanye stepping out to proclaim GWB didn't care about black people I get. But bitching about marbles is highschool-ish!
Granted Big Man, so maybe he did speak his mind, but he was also aware of what could happen as a result - and with the intent of letting pple know how he felt. The payback wld be getting some mileage out of it as celeb Prez. ABC didn't waste anytime of course - apologies, schmapologies; all worthless. The cat was already out the bag. BO is a fox, he knows wsup.
...peace

Asante brah for explaining DV's reactionary masculinity.
reactionary masculinity
rotflmbao..., whew!!!
now that's easily THE BEST euphemism for "silly-ass" I've read in a very long time.
straight into the lexicon it goes.
Ye spoke out of turn and now appears to be remorseful and apparently scared.
If he was an asshole in this instance, he’s certainly not the in the category of the 9/12 assholes on display in DC last weekend.
Remorse is alien to their ethos.
One of these assholes carried a sign (in obvious defense of Joe the Heckler) which read: “The zoo has an African lion and the White House has a lying African.”
Maureen Dowd joins the chorus imploring the POTUS to fight back:
President Obama is so wrapped up in his desire to be a different, more conciliatory, beer-summit kind of leader, he ignores some verities.
Sometimes, when you’ve got the mojo, you have to keep your foot on your opponent’s neck. When you’re trying to get a Sisyphean agenda passed, it’s good if people in the way — including rebellious elements in your own party — fear you.
Civil discourse is fine, but when the other side is fighting dirty, you should get angry. Don’t let the bully kick sand in your face. The White House should have impaled death panel malarkey as soon as it came up.
Bra Mak,
Man I'm trying to take you seriously but you killing me with the plebian participation in partisan politics.
"When you’re trying to get a Sisyphean agenda passed, it’s good if people in the way — including rebellious elements in your own party — fear you." MB
Come on dude? Cut off NPR.
You speak as if there really exists a political "party", an "agenda" or genuine "opponents".
You are referring to a political soap opera designed to pacify Plantation Negros and Plantation Crackas with a warm fuzzy that there really exists an electoral process.
Obama has about as much impact on the US political machine as Tom Brokaw has on the policies of NBC.
He's an anchorman reading a script.
"Sisyphean agenda passed". LOL
Man I spit Fuji water all over my keyboard.
Stop playin'.
