Bronzer has nothing to do with wanting to look Afroid. It's primarily about wanting to look like very together cool white folks who spend a lot of time at the beach, surfing, playing volleyball, etc...
I don't know how many people really want to actually change their race. I think they just adapt certain features that they find pleasing from various ethnic backgrounds.
As an aside, I don't think MJ wanted to be white; I think he wanted to be Peter Pan. Some of his pictures look quite a bit like the Disney version, imho.
The skintone they are shooting for is that of a natural tan - or a golden brown, sometimes bordering on orangish. If you were to pick a race, perhaps more Hispanic or Asian. But not black.
I see none of these women kinking their hair or dying it black, either. In fact, it appears more of them have it straightened and bleached blonde.
A handful of sluts changing their appearances doesn't mean anything.
Black people have never had, nor have they ever desired the power to make white people hate themselves.
No powerful or iconic white person has ever attempted to permanently darken his skin; or to widen his nose, or to kink his hair, or attempt to disconnect himself from his history and heritage.
This negro Jackson was not trying be white, he was white.
I think its partly to do with what's aesthetically pleasing - not too long ago in AngloSaxon history the paler you were the more class you had whereas the tanned or Mediterranean skin tone symbolised a lower status. Now its the opposite; the more tanned you are, the better (unless you have that orange, sunbed-gone-wrong look!) Its propped up by a whole commercial industry so there are alot of things at play; it's fashionable; its celeb culture; the holiday beachbabe is in, so is the exoticness of the Mediterranean; but also the consumption of cultures of all peoples of color considered 'exotic' yet without ever having to come face to face with peoples of those worlds other than JLo. Its alot of things and each tanned girl is motivated by diff things. But for some of them I def wouldn't rule out a twisted, subliminal desire to be Black - I mean hey its the coolest thing on the planet!!! Sadly for the wannabes only wanna consume, but if they had to live a day in my life on the real - nah never gonna happen.

There was a time when we used to drool in the mouth over white people. We thought they were pretty ‘cause we were blind, we were dumb. We couldn’t see them as they are. The shift in focus over to what some WHITE FOLKS DO does not in anyway dismiss the question that is upon Michael Jackson's shoulders.
DV - if the guy had at least ONE BLACK KID by a Black woman - I'd be feeling ya.
Madonna had more racial diversity in her living room on Christmas day than did Michael Jackson.
If he could only have gotten rid of those pesky "Black genes" in his reproductive cells he might have sired a child of his own with a White woman.
