The Strange Duality of Barack Obama

How Long Does It Take?

By ALEXANDER COCKBURN

How long does it take a mild-mannered, antiwar, black professor of constitutional law, trained as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, to become an enthusiastic sponsor of targeted assassinations, “decapitation” strategies and remote-control bombing of mud houses the far end of the globe?

There’s nothing surprising here. As far back as President Woodrow Wilson in the early twentieth century, American liberalism has been swift to flex imperial muscle, to whistle up the Marines. High explosive has always been in the hormone shot.

Mr Denmark:

We can't place this exclusively upon the God's Son, Barack Obama for there are PLENTY of enablers who encourage him.

A few months ago I saw 3 African men who were shot in the head using the forward projection of American Imperialist power in order to save one White man. The Navy Seals who practice the science of killing were given the green light by Barack Obama, their Commander In Chief, to do what is necessary to save this White man who was labeled as an "American".

But, Mr Vesey - THIS AIN'T ABOUT BARACK OBAMA in my book.

Instead we need to talk about the reaction to these killings among the "Speak Truth To Power" People.

Mr Vesey - the same people who love to throw up the "A Black man is 3/5ths of a White man" rant each time there is a White person (usually a conservative) who dares debate them with a contrary position. This time they were the main cheerleaders touting "Obama's VICTORY" and thus accepting the "African value is 1/3th" of a White man per the 3 rounds in the chamber used to save the White man off the coast of Africa.

You see it was the POWER of "lables" that did the trick and thus offer the necessary valuation to allow this uncontested and cheered.

The White Man was labeled a CAPTIAN.

The 3 Africans were labeled PIRATES.

The very people who had witnessed this same news of 3 Blacks in America having been shot in the head to save one white man by 3 White police officers would have been MARCHING IN ANGRY PROTEST against the matter. Had the dead Black men been labeled 'Crips' or '30 Deep Gang' (Atlanta area) and the same general routine having transpired - the outcome could not have been more different.

We need not look at OBAMA and the American Imperialistic Machine. We need to look at those who, in their love for Obama and what he symbolically represents to THEM, are willing rationalize about the actions of this MACHINE that he represents. Under his control the machine is seen in a different light than if a different leader had given the green light. Same outcomes, different INTENTIONS, all based on the prejudices (good and bad) held by the judge.

The question must be asked of THEM, not OBAMA: "What are you willing to put aside in the way of PROVABLE ADVANCEMENT TOWARD your PERMANENT INTERESTS to allow that force that you were made to BELIEVE is going to operate in your BEST INTERESTS actually operates in a manner that is directly counter to it? This is evident by your reaction IF that individual was not in POWER?"A sellout has no QUANTATATIVE elements in its definition. It only has QUALITATIVE elements based on the individual who places the interests of another ahead of his own.

When a large group of individuals constantly places external interests ahead of their own they should more accurately be called 'A large quantity of SELLOUTS'. They would prefer to call it "The Accepted Standard of the group" despite what the facts state.

The acceptance of their 'sellout behavior' amongst the group is ONLY due to the fact that those who typically would call for such behavior, in violatoin of this trust are mostly in on the fix.

Question how much of that ransom money sieze from western commercial interest ends up in the mouths of starving black/African children in this despotic country that the pirates hail from?

There is nothing strange about Obama’s duality. Who can name just one of his core beliefs—one that he absolutely will not compromise?

What is strange is how a community which has always demanded justice is now willing to sacrifice its moral conscience for the “success” –whatever that means--of this president.

Derrick Jackson says, “We are witnessing the Amazingly Optimistic African-American. A New York Times/CBS poll this week found that 70 percent of African-Americans think the nation is going in the right direction, while only 34 percent of white Americans think so. Ninety-one percent of African-Americans approve of the way Obama is handling the economy, compared with 55 percent of white Americans.”

Talking about amazingly optimistic -Black America is in a depression; yet ninety-one percent of African-Americans approve of the way Obama is handling the economy.

All of this optimism for a man who will not specifically address issues critical to Black Americans.

Andre Showell of BET asked Obama about Black unemployment:

“As the entire nation tries to climb out of this deep recession, in communities of color, the circumstances are far worse, the black unemployment rate, as you know, is in the double digits. And in New York City, for example, the black unemployment rate for men is near 50 percent. My question to you tonight is: given this unique and desperate circumstance, what specific policies can you point to that will target these communities and what’s the timetable for us to see tangible results?”

This was Obama’s response:

“When we put in place additional dollars for community health centers to ensure that people are still getting the help that they need, or we expand health insurance to millions more children through the Children’s Health Insurance Program, again, those probably disproportionately impact African-American and Latino families simply because they’re the ones who are most vulnerable. They have got higher rates of uninsured in their communities.

So my general approach is that if the economy is strong, that will lift all boats as long as it is also supported by, for example, strategies around college affordability and job training, tax cuts for working families as opposed to the wealthiest that level the playing field and ensure bottom-up economic growth.
And I’m confident that that will help the African-American community live out the American dream at the same time that it’s helping communities all across the country.”

The question was about specific policies that are designed to address a unique and desperate situation. Obama obviously has none, other than hope for a rising tide which is supposed to lift all boats.

Other constituents get specifics, while Black America gets generalities. That's what you get for sacrificing justice on the altar of Obama's success.

Why do we specially required exact details of any plan to address woes of African American community, and yes there are trickled down programs already impacting most vulnerable of black males.

Because that’s the way politics works in America.

Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies are specifically demanding that benefits be extended to their same-sex partners.

Groups make specific demands to address specific issues or needs.

I cannot access your article, but are the trickle-down programs you’re referencing initiatives of President Obama? Do they specifically target the depression level of unemployment amongst Black Americans? Do they specifically target the massive Black male unemployment in Urban America?

While this level of black unemployment is catastrophic, the greater malady in my opinion is our willingness sacrifice justice on the altar of Obama's success.
