Importance Of A Wife: Had Barack Obama Been Married To A Vanessa Williams Instead of Michelle Would He Have Been Elected President?

Michelle Obama is America's Princess Diana. Of the people, yet regal.

Vanessa pre-celebrity baggage, or post-celebrity baggage DV?

Her pursuit of fame and glory seems to have been a personally costly undertaking.

Good question CNu.

NOT Vanessa Williams ...

"a" Vanessa Williams.

Michelle's background and personality in Vanessa's body.

RJesq phoiner than Vanessa if the images you've put up representing her are any indication. If RJ was the first lady, I'd be hard pressed to see that as a problem - AT ALL!!!!

But that's me.

There IS an ongoing dispute in my household about the first lady. My children say that while her style and carriage are exceptional, she's got excess mandible in effect, and is thus unattractive.

My wife, who is in that upper echelon of phoine herself with the style and carriage to boot, will not abide any such talk, and argues passionately with them that Michelle is a total package attractive woman.

My name is Bennett and I try not to get in it, but I find my wife's spirited defense of the first lady's attractiveness very intriguing, and I suspect that what she's saying is reflective of the broader public consensus.

I think that her look humanizes him in a way that makes his celebrity more accessible and thus more broadly acceptable. More folks can identify with him because more folks can identify with her.

NO WAY he is president with the high yella gal.

The mixed guy who chooses the smart brown gal has soul brotha bonafides that most successful black men don't have. Not only did he NOT marry a white woman, he didn't marry a "Vanessa" either.

She is a huge part of his victory.

Who knows? Vanessa Williams is beautiful and intelligent too. I think she is just as smart as Michelle Obama and her resume seems to indicate that as the truth.

It is interesting how some women defend other women's beauty, especially when the consensus is that the one being defended is butt assed ugly.

My mother used to do that with a friend of mine. I just didn't get it.

this entire conversation is plantation residue and beneath the wisdom that exists within this e-community. color consciousness is a disease even the best of the black community can't shake. this internal strife is at the core of self hate. free yourself from false division for your own sake.

What I admire most about women like our First Lady and Vanessa Williams is that neither one apologizes for her skin tone.

I agree.

But who said anything about color?

Last thing on my mind.
