Game recognize game you a bad dude DV. Well done. Now..
Is your christianity another form of you empowering yourself mentally? HMM ok.. What Im asking you DV is did you create your God? Did God create you? Is this a compensatory method for humanity? Because I want to believe in the bible and Christ but . My intellect refutes it on sooo many levels. The Bible is a pretty interesting piece of work I might have to reblanc ( I made it up in the place of renege) on me wanting to believe in the bible but I sincerely ask How can you be such a progressive thinker and believe that in which you know the clear history of and take it as fact????

Also DV, the video was fabulous...and you are on point in your observation...

I remember reading that passage about fighting against principalities years ago and it suddenly became clear to me of this phenomenon all around me. I once heard a pastor say "The devil wants to kill you" and I thought that was pretty deep. I look at things, places, situations from that lens now. To me, the devil is any person, place or thing whose intention is my demise.

Crack - devil
Leading a sedentary/inactive lifestyle- devil
Cigarettes - devil
Living in a sea of debt - devil
Sex outside of Marriage - devil
Fried pork cracklings - devil
George W. Bush - devil
God is LIFE.
In John 10:10 Jesus states "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Look around you...if you see things that are not manifesting a more abundant life...it is not of God.

I haven't had a chance to see this yet, but I think I may make time.

" Why are we so attracted to the dark? "

Because it is the forbidden. It is the unknown. We know light is good. But we don't know what lies at the end of the dark alley. I believe it is combination of curiosity, blind arrogance, and doubt (lack of faith). Curiosity to know the unknown. Arrogance to think that, despite our orders, whatever lies there won't hurt us. And there must be doubt in order for us to disobey the orders of the Almighty the Most High. After all...he may not even be there.

Potsmoker, you pose an interesting question to DV:

" How can you be such a progressive thinker and believe that in which you know the clear history of and take it as fact????"

I think this is the very essence of "Faith". A belief in somehting for which you have no tangible evidence. Even further, a believe in an ideal in which your tangible evidence, in fact, refutes. Now, that's tough. How can one hold a belief in anything, which one has the ability to disprove?

IMO, this illustrates the very core of the power that is God. If you choose to believe. God is omniscient. He is eternal. He had no beginning and has no end. Can you understand that? Can you explain it scientifically?

Hmmm...

One who takes religion as "fact" and "belives" truly misses the point. As Alan Watts explains, the Greek word for sin, used in the Bible, is amataneen, which means to miss the mark or to miss the point.

Religion is about understanding, not belief. And understanding is what others inaccurately call "faith".

Belief is for those who lack understanding.

Anonymous said...

That all sounded pretty astute, but was it really?

" Religion is about understanding, not belief "

I thought religion was about setting a universal set of morals and values, which once followed, would lead us to eternal salvation. I obviously missed something. While religion and history are in fact related, and the Bible, for example, could be read as a history book. It is largely based on Faith....It predates Jesus by a whopping 2000 years. Abraham was lived almost 200 years and wss 100 years old when Isaac was born.

" And understanding is what others inaccurately call "faith" Belief is for those who lack understanding. "

You cannot "understand" God. That you would even purport to do so offers me insight to the degree of "blind arrogance" ingrained within you. Say 10 Hail Marys tonite as your penance.

" And understanding is what others inaccurately call "faith"

And only ignorant people believe? Actually, that is correct. Ignorance meaning, "lack of knowing". Only people who have no direct knowledge of the existence of God, believe or have faith. You must have played dominoes with the BIG GUY this weekend. Is HE in your Fave Five?

"..Belief is for those who lack understanding. "
So by default, THE INTELLECTUAL INSURGENT BELIEVES IN NOTHING! Is that a fair statement? Please answer this one.

"..Belief is for those who lack understanding. "
And Nice try, Confucius. Oh, enlightened one! Please explain to me, scientifically, the concept of Omniscience. Explain to me, scientifically, the concept of resurrection. What you gona say I don't "understand" what was meant by resurrection? Or I don't "understand" what was meant by omniscience? Come better than that.

While science can certainly answer most questions, I am not ready to denounce the existence of an entity greater than me or my capacity for " understanding. "

Are you?

No TP.

It is the Insurgent who has missed the mark.

"Belief" and "Fact" are not related. In fact they don't belong in the same sentence. Once you begin to look for factual support for your beliefs, you begin to erode your faith.

Prince,

If I read you correctly, you think that I am denouncing religion and promoting science as a superior alternative. If that is your impression, then it is incorrect. I am not putting up science as a preferable or superior alternative to religion.

Indeed, far from it.

The problem with "belief" is it is literal, which is the trap both fundamentalists and atheists fall into. Each takes the mythology literally and either accepts or rejects on its literal terms, never really understanding the point of the stories.

If you read the story of the little boy who cried wolf and UNDERSTAND the moral is meant to be conveyed, it is absolutely irrelevant whether the little boy who cried wolf actually existed at some point in time. Same goes for the Bible, the Quran, the Gita or whatever else.

For those who sin by missing the point, however, they insist that the only way the story can be legitimate is if they BELIEVE the little boy who cried wolf actually existed. And they never digest the moral of the story.

So, do enlighitened people look upon the Bible, Qur'an etc as a collection of parables and short stories designed to offer us a blueprint on how to live, with no real value other than that? The message is more important than its authenticity?

Is that how you view them?

Intellectual Insurgent said...

What's more valuable than a blueprint on how to live?

Dark = evil
light = good

Though in the "Dark Knight" the dark one is good and the white one is evil, though in order to defeat the white evil the dark good has to become evil.

It's sophisticated psychological conditioning of the masses to accept moral relativism and nihilism once again. That's all.

A s to that religious stuff:

I liken a relationship with God as to any relationship. Say someone had written a book about DV and I decided to sit back and "get to know him" by reading about him. Obviously I am going to learn some things about him in doing so...but do I truly KNOW him?

Getting to know someone is a process - you must spend time, listen, speak toand interact with someone in order to get to know them.

If you truly desire to know God, invest the time in getting to know God...

Faith...that is to believe in something with no factual evidence... uh.. why would I do that? If I go to North Korea I'll find the majority ppl believe KIM Jong Il is their "savior" and provides everything for them etc. Anywhere you go ppl will believe what they've been taught to believe. Simple .what are we arguing faith for? We know what it means.. but why have it????????? Why? To have faith that jonah went into the belly of a whale when I know it's impossible to me is a cop out. DV you know you like my cool uncle ...by marriage.. who Ive never seen but still look up to but you haven't answered the question patna. Are you using the church for liberation like REV Jeremiah wright or what brotha?

Denmark Vesey said...

Very true Soteria,

Now allow us to contrast your words with the experience of most Americans today.

Do we gaze upon nature and the natural order (manifestations of God), or through mainstream media do we gaze upon the dark Satanic imaginations of Godless fanatics?

I submit this is not a contest of Religion vs. No Religion. I submit "No Religion" (Dark) is also ... a religion.

Complete with dogma, ritual and converts. Secularism is the flip side of fundamental Islam.

Muslims flock to Mecca to pay homage.

Secularists flock to the box office, pay a few sheckles, and worship at the alter of The Joker (Satan).

Very astute Soteria.

In The Road Less Traveled, Scott Peck defines evil as anything that is anti-life. Live is evil spelled backwards.

heaven and hell is within. we are attracted to it because it is a bit of self. the bit we have to reckon with daily.

gazing upon this is more evil than gazing upon some of that hip hop isht? really?

(sigh) If I could debate you all in person and ask u questions 1 by one on your beliefs Im sure sure it be filled by impossibilities hypocrisies inconsistencies and mental paradoxes that have made it impossible for ME to believe in the divinity of Jesus or the Bible. Now I could be a christian in the political sense which is the only function of religion anyway. I question you all as such: Do ya'll truly believe all that the bible proclaims is valid and true. Do you BYRD? DV? PRINCE WAYNE?

Denmark Vesey said...

Ill ...

Do you feel Lil Wayne? Do you believe him?

Are not his lyrics filled with "impossibilities hypocrisies inconsistencies and mental paradoxes?"

Your attempt to "believe" / "understand" Christianity is parochial, amateurish and a secular booby trap.

You don't understand Christ by deconstructing biblical text anymore than you understand Stevie Wonder by typing the lyrics to "Master Blaster".

We can rap about God. But you gotta do your homework Jr.

Look up "Christianity Before Christ". Read that first, then we'll get started.
