Less Educated or Less Invested In The Corporate Plantation?

A poll this fall by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a black think tank, shows the wide disparity of support for Mr. Obama among blacks. While 75% of blacks who went to college had a favorable or very favorable view of the candidate — rising to 88% among blacks who went to graduate or professional school — support dipped to 62% among those with just a high-school degree and to 42% among blacks who haven’t finished high school. A similar pattern shows up as income levels fall among blacks. And while 83% of blacks employed full time had a favorable view of Mr. Obama, just 55% of unemployed blacks did.

More interested in seeing a white woman ruling. More interested in "civil rights."

I'm not surprised. But I would love to see a similar survey about Al Sharpton. I'm certain that we would find a reciprocal version in which the Reverend's approval would primarily come from less affluent and less educated blacks. What works in Obama's favor is that he appeals to highly educated and affluent whites. Ultimately, such a poll a is diversionary because now we're all in the same boat.

By the way, does anyone else see the irony that Obama's 'blackness' would be questioned because he has a white momma or spent formative years outside the US? Kwame Toure, the architect of Black Power, came from Trinidad, and Marcus Garvey was Jamaican. Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington both had white fathers.

I don't grant Obama the stature or motivations of these men. But much of the man's professional life was spent working with urban blacks as a community organizer and later representing them in local government. He is not someone who came from a uniquely privileged background, worked as a corporate lawyer or financier, or was a pet of powerful or connected white men like Brent Scowcroft and Josef Korbel.

Whites jumped rather late on the Obama bandwagon. Now we're supposed to treat him the same way we treat blues or jazz music and pass on him because too many whites are infatuated with him? Come on, man!

Now, if the old elite vanguard or lumpenproletariat was siding with Edwards or Kucinich then I would say they're guided by principle. But goddamn! Hillary Clinton? That is about as submissive and venality driven as possible. If they don't know, they should ask Lani Guinier. Carry plenty of Vaseline when you roll with the Clintons.

Please excuse my ranting this morning. I'm going to grab another cup of coffee.

LOL Mariner,

I feel you man.

But I will tell you this. I think the 'questioning' of Obama's blackness is a media ploy.

I have yet to hear any black person anywhere suggest such stupidity. The media runs with that meme because it polarizes the race.

Obama is blacker than any handkerchief head Hillary Clinton supporter in America.
