Nas Says 'Get Over It' - Titles New Album "Nigger"

Nas is a small minded boy. If one wants to spew, think, or greet his fellow AFRICAN americans along those terms, then that's one him, as equal as the right for self respecting Black folk who do not desire to hear the term called out. How quickly we are ready to degrade our own for profit! Nas has only given the white man more fuel to his weaning fire.

Nas is a genius. He's illustrating that this word has no more power than we give it. He is demonstrating that most race based impediments, are completely voluntary and ultimately have nothing to do with "the white man". Old Plantation Negro thinking that awards too much power to white people (MF and his GSWS), and ultimately makes them responsible for what happens to us, is a far greater detriment to the empowerment of black folks than anything "white people" have done to us.

Nas acknowledges the obvious: The word "Nigger" has multiple meanings. It is nuanced, it has gradations that include everything from hate to love. It depends on how we use it. Assigning an automatic, bug-eyed, over-the-top reaction to a word, creates a self-denying prophecy.
Would white people be all up in arms about an album titled "Cracker"? Then why is it nearly the Apocalypse for Negros?

If I could go back in time and change one thing that would alter the course of history, I would sabotage the subjective idea of race as plausible. The word was born from a singular POV that justifies discrimination, prejudice and oppression in order to control.

IMO the word is more than a mere insult. It is probably the most emotionally charged, polarizing and perplexing word in the history of race relations in the United States and it has equivalient translations throughout the world. I'm not sure how brother Nas is going to approach this but I'm anxious to hear him examine its depth, evolution and power whether its real or imagined.

If this were a less intelligent rapper, I'd say it was just a silly money play. But Nas is an old wise man, so I trust him to spit knowledge on this track. I'm with DV on this one.

Although NAS may be the braintrust behind the title "Nigger". This was ultimately green-lighted by Jew Doug Morris CEO of Universal Music, parent of Def Jam. So don't get it twisted. The manipulation of black minds continues and you have fallen for it hook, line and sinker! The one thing media companies are excellent at is marketing/mental mind control. They have gotten you to lay down and rollover like a little puppy with old school house negro methods with a commercial rap delivery (oh yeah did you forget this is for profit 1$t). What would Malcolm and Garvey think of you inability to dig deeper?

So, Nas was brilliant for labeling the title of his album "Nigger?" How so? Don't get me wrong, the word Nigger doesn't offend me, however, I will take nothing negative that started in from the white man's mouth about me or my people and own it! We were never, and nor shall we ever be Niggers!

Like I said before, "It's a good spin to use when an old racist white man decides to get out of line and feels the need to call you or your children out their name. Surely, he got the terminology from Nas! LOL...

If I was the one on the plantation, I don't think I would be praising nor answering to the term " NIgger." Nas, the marketing genius, or the Nas, the damn house negro fool? I'll tap dance to the latter..

Nah Lyn,

That is not a real Kid Rock album.

That image is a prop designed to contrast the hysterical hyperbole exercised by some blacks to the word "nigger" with the relatively benign disinterest of whites to the word "cracker".

I submit that because whites, barely respond at all, and refuse to give power to the word cracker - WE RARELY HEAR IT.

Get it yet?

That's what the Mike Fisher's and his cult of "GSWS" don't understand.

Yeah yeah yeah. I can hear them now: "The historical this! The systemic that! Our people died!"

It aint that deep.

The word "water" won't make you wet.

And the word "nigger" won't get you lynched.

Overreacting to it does nothing but hand your enemy a weapon.

But if a mob of hooded white boys are outside your door calling you nigger I guess you will ignore them and continue with your yogga? If a cat says motherfucker I am going to kill you what you going to do? Wait for his words to do their thang?

Casper,

If a mob of hooded white boys are outside my door - my problem is not the words coming out of their mouths.

My problem is how many of these motherfuckers I can kill before they get me.

You think banning the word "nigger" would make that "mob" of hooded white boys hold hands and sing "We shall overcome"?

A lot of the hysteria surounding the word Nigger that comes from Black people is the result of a pre-occupation with what White people think. If a White person or a person of any other race is myopic enough to define an entire race of people by one word; then their opinion is of no value.

Another aspect to this debate is a generation gap involving those of the Civil Rights era and their successors. In many ways they want the language, imagery and mentality of their era to be strictly conformed to some 4 decades later.

There has been a reclaimation of the word Nigger by their children/grandchildren that they will have to come to grips with.

i do not like nor respect the word nigga, nigger, and.....? If you do, lol, more power to yah.

lol, what are you suggesting, embrace the word? ummm, never. Just because whites don't respond irrate when referenced as cracker, so what! We're not a people to be in competion with white people, again, if white people can accept offensive name callin, then why, oh why, can't I?

Can we say massa, I wanna be like you?
