Are football teams really modern day plantations, complete with slaves (players) overseers (coaches) and owners (owners)?Instead of cotton, sugar and tobacco slaves produce ticket sales, TV Broadcast Rights and Ratings.
Instead of whippings the slaves get fined, suspended and cut.

If a real slave had a choice of becoming a well paid pro athlete or staying on the plantation they would choose pro athlete 100% of the time. If a pro athlete had the choice of becoming a real plantation slave or staying a well paid pro athlete they would choose to stay in their current profession 100% of the time. But entertainment like football were in most american's conscious well before the current invasion even existed. Football, Jordan and Tiger were ramed into our memory's well before 911. So to suggest it's being used now to distract us is a stretch.

Modern day employees are "compensated" with money which they use to live in homes, drive cars, eat processed food, buy prescription drugs, watch TV's and go back to work.
Slaves were compensated with places to live, food to eat, just enough medical care to keep them alive and to get them back to work.
Just because the illusion of payment exists, doesn't make the current system less of a plantation than what we saw prior to "Emancipation".

The NFL is nothing more than a barter system. Men volunteer trading their athletic skills for major currency.
The owners, coaches, scouts, GM's have control over these young men. With no guaranteed contracts in the NFL you are at the mercy of League and the its owners. In college if that young man reacts like anyone else would with the unwanted entry into your personal space, scholarship gone. Mike Vick gets into off the field trouble fighting dogs (popular in most urban areas), well, shit we want 19 million back BOY. Now that's power.
