The other day I jokingly asked my mom, would you care if I got liposuction? She shocked the heck out me when she said, "if thats what you wanted to do, go ahead." I couldnt believe it.
Why does that suprise you Robyn?
There are lot of latinas in my office with fake tits. Some of them don't even try to act like they are real. They have, like E cups!
I'm generally not in favor of plastic surgery, but it's easy for me to judge cuz I don't have any glaring deformities. If I was a chick with itty bitty titties, I might be tempted. Big breasts make life easier for a woman. :-)
It shocked me because generally speaking, and IMO, Black women tend to have a healthier self image. We tend to be less hard on ourselves regarding qualities otherwise considered flaws on society. Perhaps a greater sense of self-acceptance. I dont know any Black women who suffer from anorexia, bulemia or who have had plastic surgery [except for 1 and she's middle aged]. So when my mom expressed indifference to the proposition of me getting plastic, something which is likely the antithesis of self acceptance, I was surprised.
J: Big breasts make life easier for a woman. :-)
Spoken like a true man.
Regarding latinas, I recently noted that they must be getting surgery at increasing rates. On Power 106 there are a lot of commercials with the boob job tummy tuck combo.

Astute. Astute. Astute observation.
Which makes it alarming when black people jump on the main stream bandwagon of conformity.
Cutting on one's body is a big deal.
Not judging. Trying to understand.
I agree DV, it is alarming. and plastic surgery IS a big deal.
If God made humanity in his image, plastic surgery is the equivalent of saying that we don't like the image.
And would prefer that man make us something different.
It's true Robyn. Women with big tits get treated differently. I worked with a woman at my prior firm that had the nicest set of fake tits on God's Green Earth. Every time she walked into a room, men would lose their damn minds. (She was pretty too.) It's the breast-feeding/mother thing.
I saw pics of her before she had the tit job and it was like she was a different person. Kinda boring. Nothing special.
tits are a big thing in america, no so much else where. how about ass implants?
Funny Anonymous.
If men could "treat" to ass plants ... women would be walking around 36-24-96.
Wouldn't be able to drive a car.
But Big J,
If the big breast thing is some Freudian need to nurse - wouldn't silicone throw a monkey wrench in that fantasy?

Shallow bitch.
"No matter how much you want to dye your hair blonde and put fake eyes in, or follow an anorexic standard of beauty, or no matter how many diamonds you buy from people who exploit your own brutally to get them, no matter what kind of car you drive or what kind of fancy clothes you put on, you will never be them. They're always gonna look at you as nothing but a little monkey. I'd rather be proud of what I am, rather than desperately trying to be something I'm really not, just to fit in. And whether we want to accept it or not, that's what this culture or lack of culture is feeding us.
I want a better life for my family and for my children, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of millions of lives in my homeland. We're given the idea that if we didn't have these people to exploit then America wouldn't be rich enough to let us have these little petty material things in our lives and basic standards of living. No, that's wrong. It's the business giants and the government officials who make all the real money. We have whatever they kick down to us. My enemy is not the average white man, it's not the kid down the block or the kids I see on the street; my enemy is the white man I don't see: the people in the white house, the corporate monopoly owners, fake liberal politicians those are my enemies. The generals of the armies that are mostly conservatives those are the real Mother-Fuckers that I need to bring it to, not the poor, broke country-ass soldier that's too stupid to know shit about the way things are set up."
Immortal Technique
Working on your other reply, i'll have to take it in chunks over the next couple of days, i have several projects in the air.
"They're always gonna look at you as nothing but a little monkey."
I don't know about that one nut.
Aint nobody ever going to look at me as a "monkey".
If I was swinging from trees with a banana in my mouth - I wouldn't be mistaken for no damn monkey.
I think I get the just of the statement ... but damn.
