WHO ARE REALLY THE GREATEST ENGLISH LANGUAGE POETS? William Shakespeare vs Christopher Wallace. Lyrical Battle

When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee—and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love rememb'red such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes
Sonnet 29
William Shakespeare

Since it's on, I call my nigga Arizona Ron
From Tuscon, push the black Yukon
Usually has the slow grooves on
Mostly rock the Isley's
Stupid as a youngin, chose not the moves wisely
Sharper with game, him and his crooks, caught a jook.
Heard it was sweet, bout 350 a piece
Ron bought a truck, 2 bricks laid in the cut
His peeps got bucked, got locked the fuck up
That's when Ron vanished, came back, speakin spanish
Lavish habits, two rings, 20 carats
Here's a criminal
Nigga made America's Most
Killed his baby's mother's brother, slit his throat
The nigga got bagged with the toast, weeded
Took it to trial, beat it
Now he feel he undefeated
He mean it
"Nothing To Lose", tattooed around his gun wounds
"Everything to gain", embedded in his brain
And me I feel the same for this money and diamonds
Specially if my daughter cryin, I ain't lyin
Y'all know the science.

Apples and oranges, and not comparable, only, different from one another.
Art in both cases.
A case can not be made for better or worse. Thats too relative in regard to art.
For one thing, they are at historical odds because of language.

The hip hop song would have not been understandable to BILL, and the William is not understandable much to people without a background in shake a the spear.

How does one compare African masks to Roman statue`s ?
They don`t, but both are appreciated for what each is, and expression of art.

Great point... Additionally, how does one disconnect themselves from their perspective(race, generation, rythm, language) to really evalute without bias.

Bullshit.

Poetry is poetry.

Art is compared all the time.

Propose Biggie Smalls be taught right alongside William Shakespeare at the high school or college level - and you will see art compared real quick.

The fact is the masses understood Shakespeare during his day no more than the masses (you included Skip) understand Hip Hop today.

However, racist arrogant ignorance, exercised by all races in this regard, discounts artist who look like Christopher Wallace and Sean Carter.

No poets in history have taken the literal meaning of words, and used them to evoke emotional and sensual responses like Hip Hop artist.

From assonance to alliteration to onomatopoeia no poets have done it like rappers.

If Rakim looked like Harry Potter they would be building his statue at Oxford as we speak.

I disagree... That's why more white kids are into Biggie than W. Shakes! Even though W. Shakes is taught to every American kid in k12.

say that casper!

it ain't racism unless DV says it is. check some pervious posts for evidence. most things aren't boogeyman racism. just the hate surrounding rappers.

LOL. That's funny. Yeah. Check the archives Casper. You'll learn some good stuff.

Both of you missed the point.

Racist ignorance is not keeping kids from buying Hip Hop product.

Racist ignorance is keeping Hip Hop artists from receiving the acclaim and stature readily accorded other artists much less innovative and talented.

Deconstruct the most recent anti-rap campaign in the media. The art is dissected into the isolated parts and then damned.

Anything can be damned if taken in isolation.

If you are going to damn Nas, by isolating a violent lyric, why not damn Spielberg by isolating a violent scene, in one of his movies?

Blacks who attack rappers in this manner, but who would not dare question non black artists, are racists self-haters.

Who does not give Biggie Smalls the utmost praise WHO TELL ME.. Just one.. I will knock them out! ;)

oh my god. I'm speechless (almost). Casper gave hip hip some props. Note the date and time.

Who?

You.

By participating in that nonsense that suggests Hip Hop is "nuthin' but bitches and ho's" you are also attacking Biggie.

There is NOTHING that Fiddy and Jay and TI rap about that Biggie and Tupac did not rap about.

So, Casper, push away from the keyboard.

Stand up.

And bust your own head.

Aight. Cool. If you want to put it that way.

Or of course we can all just do it your way, and walk along our own journey and everything is everything and what goes up must come down and be silent for 45 minutes.
