it wouldn't hurt.
but the things that make most children feel inferior extend well beyond what we see on their backs.
A uniform is a good idea.
Forget the stupid ass tie idea with it though, and make it loose and comfortable such as sport clothing.
No ties, no shiny shoes, or starched shirts. Comfortable simple fashion only.
I say ties. Blazers. Crests on the chest. Hat off.
Girls first. Pledge of Allegiance and Lord's Prayer if it was up to me.
People could use a healthy dose of formality.

Anyone genuinely interested in building strong children know kids crave structure and discipline.
Uniforms are a good idea. However we should be sure and say that uniforms will only curb materialism and material-based competition in children. Eliminate this phenomenon uniforms will not! But in general they are a good practice. And, they do not, by any means, destroy individuality in kids. Each kids personality was well reflected in the way they wore their uniform. trust that!
I have fond memories of when I wore uniforms to school. And I'm sure they were cheaper for my parents.
I grew up in private schools. The Lord's Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and "My Country Tis of Thee" were routine every morning. So was uniform check. No Jordans, hoop earrings, lip gloss, or Bike shorts showing under your rolled skirt :-) Oxfords and white collared button-downs.
When we looked the same, no one felt inferior to another. It didn't matter if your mom bought you the new Jordans because you couldn't wear them to school anyway! You can move on and focus on learning.
substitute khaki's for the grey flannel and plaid kilts, and it's all good....,
ties, blazers, and button downs are imperative and skirts have to be at least knee length, and none of those skanky little platform heels like what's pictured - low heeled penny loafers and mary janes - period.
uniforms won't have any effect on the materialism, there are still electronic gadgets, fun money and automobiles to distinguish the haves from the have nots, but the uniform is a very good thing just the same.
