NEW YORK (July 25) -- Two middle-school students in Oregon are facing possible time in a juvenile jail and could have to register as sex offenders for smacking girls on the rear end at school.
The boys spent five days in a juvenile detention facility and were charged with several counts of felony sex abuse for what they and their parents said was merely inappropriate but not criminal behavior.
The local district attorney has since backed off -- the felony charges have been dropped and the district attorney said probation would be an appropriate punishment. The Mashburns' lawyer said prosecutors offered Cory a plea bargain that would not require him to register as a sex offender, which the family plans to reject.

Is this something all kids do??? I thought I was the only sick one. I went through my booty grabbin' stage when I was in seventh grade.
This just goes to show the world that people can turn anything into what they feel! Arresting 2 13 years boys for slapping rears ends on girls. Yet the schools hand out comdoms? If you go to any middle school in America today you will find them doing everything they see on TV! If this kind of behavoir is to stop, we need to go back to the way school was!
1. Put God back in school.
2. Pray back in school.
3. Paddle their rears, when they are in trouble.
4. Make parents accountable for their children, to many parents are still acting like they are young and let their children run wild. DOn't care what they do so long as they are not up under them.
The law makers have made it impossible to displine our own children. Then you have some one react to slapping butts? I bet if you went to that school, wait till they let school out you would find much worse than that on the sidewalks. Bring back our Lord and we will then see a better way of life for the young. Until then we are in for even worse than what is happening. On any channel of TV you can see pron! What kind of people are you to put such smutt on view for the world? A day of reconning is coming.
I guess there going to have to go after all our kids coaches that pat our kids on the ass and say good game.

The word itself implies that these kids did this with the intent of being violent.
That is a no no, and they should be punished.

I think they should be talked to but not punished to the extent that they are pushing towards. I'm sure they have already learned there lesson.

Hey, Skip, do you think the proper punishment for these 13 year old kids is to have to report to a police station every 90 days for the rest of their lives to give the cops their addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, etc. so that, every time there is a rape the cops come knocking at the door. You can't live within 1000 feet of anywhere a kid lives, plays or goes to school; can't get a job. Kind of heavy for just swatting a girl on the butt. GET REAL!!! You don't destroy lives because of a harmless prank. Pretty soon it will be a crime to get out of bed in the morning
Robyn, I agree that the school should of handled this them selves and maybe contacted all the kids parents. Not, call the police. Lets have the police deal with the major problems getting the drugs and weapons out our schools.

clearly there is a much larger problem as he seems to not know the gravity of the situation he's in while the woman in the back has fallen into hysteria.
I really believe this is taking this whole moral issue too far.
When I was a kid and I did something like thay did (and I did all the time) I got a swift kick in the ass from the nuns and then my parents kicked my butt. After a few punishments, I learned a little respect.
Let the schools and parents handle these kinds of matters not the cops.
I do believe this is the stupidest thing I have read. The girls should get an apology and the boys should be told to stop. I am sure that is all it would have taken. But NOOO! We have to have these 13 year old boys taken from school in hand cuffs. The parents of the girls should be ashamed of themselves for letting this get this far. I remember growing up and if I did something wrong to ANYONE..I was made to seek a way to make ammends. Then I would get punished by MY PARENTS. This society is always looking to blame everything on someone else. The lawyers and DA should also have tried to resolve this without all this mess. Shame on ALL involved.
My 13 year old daughter had her shorts and undergrments pulled off by a kid in school and he basically got a slap on the hand! This is outragous! First the goverment tell kids that it's child abuse if a parent spanks them , then the want to prosecute a child for an act they themselves are undoubtly guilty of themselves!
There are bigger issues in this world for Christ sake! Do we really need to punish a child for this behavior when sex offenders are still preying on them?
Makes you wonder what agenda is being advanced by criminalizing harmless youthful behavior. Bringing in law enforcement at younger and younger ages makes children more accustomed to accepting totalitarian interference in everything, and grows them into adults who will be obedient to anyone in a uniform of the state.

I would say make the kid get down on his hands and knees in front of the entire school and apologize for being an idiot, just for starters.

This whole thing is so far out of hand. My first kiss was when I was 4 by a neighbor boy who was 5. These days the boy would be charged whith a crime. I am a baby boomer when we were growing up we did'nt have all this political correct crap but somehow we managed to grow up without killing each other or becoming rapist because we kissed a girl at 5 or slapped a girl on the butt at 13. If parents would be parents and allow school to discpline their childern without threating a law suite this sort of thing would be handled in the school and at home. When my son was 13 I had 2 girls at my home at 1:00 Am in the moring wanting to see him. One of the girls fathers had brought her to my house, these girls were 12 and 13 what a father. For these girls to say they were offended when the boys did this is just crazy. I work public health and I see girls who are younger than this with STD's who have multiple partners. Offended my butt lets get the courts out of the homes and school and allow kids to be kids. Parents be parents and don't let the courts tell you how. By the way for all of you out there that believe a parent can't spank their child quote to me the law that says that. My son is in law there is no such law just that you can't abuse them there is a differance after all. Parents just use it as an excuse not to be parents. I have been hearing that nonsense sense my son was a child.

This is terrible. Since when is a slap on the butt a crimal act? Especially by a 13 year old boy? Why don't the authorities go after REAL sex offenders that are hurting and sometimes even killing our children? You hear about children being found dead every day. These girl's parents have to much time on their hands to be putting these boy's and their families through hell. Sure they should be punished, but this certainly isn't the way. These parents of the girls and the lawers should be ashamed of themselves. Go after REAL sex offenders if you know what that really means. It just makes me sick there are people that are so nuts to want to ruin other lives. These girls probably loved the attention from the boys and the parents are taking this way to far. Maybe the girls parents sould learn the true meaning of a sex offender.

Lets ruin the rest of a pair of kid's lives for playing some grabass on a friday. While we're at it, lets throw all those other badass kids that run in the halls and ask questions without raising their hands in jail too. After that we can throw a few people in jail for some consentual sex.
So just incase I missed something, they're putting two, young, dimpled boys in a cell with a bunch of actual sex offenders right?
I mean, people in the law system are full of bologna. That was such an over reaction of the girls, her parents, the officers who arrested them. Good Lord what is up with these people discriminating against minors
