Kanye is doing it for attention. Other than that, it's fine with me.
Big J.
Man, I can't believe you said that.
White men have been posing as Jesus for 2,000 years. A Black artist has the imagination, the audacity and the heart to present an image of Jesus Christ, closer to the truth in body and in spirit, yet you reduce that to a childish ploy for attention?
Damn. You hard J.
Did Miles blow Kind of Blue "for attention"?
Did Picasso paint Blue Nude "for attention"?
Did Jordan go baseline and dunk on Niggas "for attention"?
Did Mohammad Ali predict the round he was going to win, in iambic pentameter, "for attention"?
Please explain what it is about our people that compels us to resent our brothers who refuse to conform?

brilliant. 'bout time.
I guess its nice to see a hip hip artist on the cover of rolling stone but Kanye needs to stop with the Jesus comparisons. Its in poor taste and certainly suggestive that Kanye needs to get over himself.
we can all be like jesus. even kanye. even you robyn. even you.
not sure I appreciate the tone of that last comment. but i'll reserve further response.
Being like Jesus is one thing. I think Robyn's point is that his portrayal may be over-stepping because it can give the impression he's comparing himself, or mocking Jesus' suffering. Whatever the suggestion, he does need to get over himself already. His arrogance is no longer attractive, it's annoying.
That's the problem with Negroes.
Who the f**k wants to be like Jesus? Get nailed on a cross? I'd rather be like Muhammad and nail a mofo on a cross.
If you gotta be like Jesus, be like the one from the Apocalypse, and carry a sword.
what is wrong with comparing yourself to jesus? if you are christian isn't this your ultimate goal. what kind of religion dangles a "get like me" carrot and then is offended at the notion of people standing in that space.
and what? you don't think a man's suffering is worthy of being represented by a crown of thorns becuase he's not jesus. it is merely a representation of suffering. he could have worn shackles and cuffs. would that make you feel better?
the life a christ is one of the better to imitate.
Kanye is doing it for attention. Other than that, it's fine with me.
Big J.
maybe he needs the attention.
Vying for attention. Exactly. NOT trying to BE like Christ. If he was he wouldn't be throwing D's on that bitch. Shackles and cuffs would work better, at least its indicative of suffering he may have actually incurred. This man didn’t get crucified, did not suffer any of the atrocities Jesus did, and is only trying to make $$ on the Christian platform. Like a crooked preacher.
So what if it is for attention? He captured the attention of the masses and started a dialogue. Heaven forbid a non-White person challenge the conventional image of Aryan Caucasian blue-eyed KKK Jesus.
Like I said, other than the fact that Kanye did it strictly for attention, I have no problem with it. Kanye is neither the first nor the last negro to pose as Jesus. Of course Jesus was person of color. Can that be disputed? It's not that big of a venture.
Big J
This was nothing new.
'Pac had the Makaveli cover.
Nas and Puffy had the crucifixion video, which, IMO, was facially ridiculous.
Am I a hatin' plantation negro?
Big J
Kanye wasnt trying to spark any debate centered on challenging traditional notions of what Jesus looked like. Please! This is just more of his same bullshit.
you might be J.
but just today.
I bet the crib that Jesus is neither mad nor offended. so why are so many other people? It's his photo (presumably).
Robyn,
It's irrelevant whether Kanye wanted to spark a debate. He did. I don't care if he did it to make money, get laid or stroke his ego, he got White America mad about what they saw as an affront to their White Jesus. And it is their anger that should be the subject of discussion. Their oversized egos and desperate need for attention; their desperation to appropriate the image of Jesus in their likeness.
Who cares what Kanye's intent was?
Insurgent,
I must confess, I detected no noticeable outcry from "white people" that they had a problem with Kanye (Or Tupac or Nas) for daring to join the parade of white men who have presented their interpretation of Jesus.
It was Black people who got most upset and had their lips poked out.
"Who dat nigga dink he is?!"
"He aint No GeeeeZus!"
Adam Sandler could pose as Jesus and Niggas wouldn't say nuthin'.
But the moment a brother even looks at a crown of thorns - out comes the psycho-babble Freudian insight and speculation about his nefarious motivations.
Justin you not quite a hatin' plantation negro, but you are saying two things at once:
1) it's only to seek attention
2) it's ok with me.
That's hatin' while covering your ass.
LMAO at DV's "slave speak." That sh*t is hilarious.
On another note, is anyone planning to see the reading from Pres' screenplay?
I am.
Damn. When it is Robyn?

Dina,
What white Americans were mad?? I never heard a peep about the racial aspect of it?
DV,
What I'm saying is that I have no problem with someone challeging white Jesus. I just think it's lame when your intentions are just get attention for yourself.
Big J
Perhaps it's that I spend too much time in the right-wing blogosphere, but they were having a field day with it.

If we can't see god in it all, we can't see god at all.
Pres is a rock star! His story was great and he is as charming in person as he is in cyberspace.
