Luckily, much of the information and perspectives regular schools will not teach can be found online -- this site included of course.

FYI, here is a site I recently found that contains a large library of texts available on social commentary and gardening/farming: http://www.soilandhealth.org/

One book available as a pdf that sounds interesting is, Tree Crops. It is about growing different kinds of trees that will provide crops every year as opposed to having to plow up the soil and replant every year. Thought you might find it interesting.

Anonymous: Why would k-12 be expected to teach agriculture? Colleges do. K-12 teaches the basics. The 3-Rs. Trades are taught generationally and have always been that way before institutionalized learning. You would have to produce evidence that teachers do not encourage free thinking. Because all my teachers and my children's teachers have always motivated them to explore beyond the curriculum. Its up to parents to motivate children to think outside the box. In the meantime, I'm appreciative that there is a box at all to think outside of.
