So surprising to find so many Africans behind USA. Like my own African mama said "I'm for the country that's feeding all my children" LOL. USA USA

I can get with that.... but nah... deep down I just can't see myself rooting against my brothers.

and oh yeah adding on to my comment above... do we expect American blacks to have some sort of loyalty? to who? why?

I'm born and raised in the midwest. Ever since I can recall the World Cup I've pulled for every African team out there. Nigeria was pissin' me off this year. Too many blown goals. S. Africa came to play. Ivory Coast showed some flashes minus Drogba. Wasn't able to catch Cameroon. Don't know alot about the Ghana squad.

I know Onyewu's sister so I want to see him play well for USA but I'll be tooting my vuvuzela for Ghana.

I'm pulling for Ghana against the U.S., but I'm pulling for Brazil to take it all! Oh and yes, I'm original indigenous to the western hemispheric soil...LOL

This is a good article on the topic

http://www.theroot.com/blogs/black-history-month/how-slavery-spoiled-world-cup

" People very often say that slavery has “taken” things from blacks, which is correct in many ways but inaccurate in many others. Rather, in some cases what slavery has done is muddled small joys other American citizens take for granted. It’s not that blacks don’t often have the same things as whites, it’s that, occasionally, those things are rendered less effective by the lack of a certain history within the black community. Just as slavery is why we have Black History Month rather than something more specific, like Irish-American Heritage Month, slavery is why I don’t get the same pleasure from the World Cup as my friends."

GH all the way!!!

They've got some serious swag too. Gyaan and Asamoah play good, but they need to perfect their scoring and stop missing the goal so much. The Australia and Germany games were played well, but they failed to execute so many times.

USA USA USA (!) has come up through the years and they have some good players. Dunno what kinda loyalty is to be expected because on the US team there are Africans and one Caribbean, alongside some Mexicans. If the number of African and Caribbean players goes up to as many as the French team, then to whom is one meant to be 'loyal' - the country or the team?

iHeart Les Bleus and think Nicolas Anelka's the baaaddest for what he did. I wish they could have pulled thru and won, but Viva la Resistance, mes frères!

Co-sign Ensayn1, Brazil's gotta take this. A Brazil v Argentina final wld be fierce!

I never root for the USA in any int'l competition except for track & field. I've really enjoyed this World Cup and I pay particular attention to any game featuring ANY African country. I will be pulling for Ghana in this game, but I'll be cool if the USA wins. I've become more patriotic and "rooted" in America since Obama was elected, but I still tend to root for the underdog, especially if he's black.

Ghana is definitely not the underdog in this football match! Whatever gave you that idea... do you know the history of football in Ghana?
