Funny thing about Father's Day... on Facebook 90% of my friends had statuses that read like this "happy father's day to the fathers that actually care enough to stick around and raise their kids and to the mom's that have to be father's and mothers". No one had just a straight up "Happy Father's Day". But the funny thing about it was that I know for a fact that some of those statements were made by women who did have good, present fathers and whose children have the same. I think we're just so caught up in thinking that black men are not real fathers that we play into that myth even where it's not true in our own lives. I went through my 300+ friends and every father on my friend's list (except one) either lives in the house with their child and posts pics of them constantly or is not with the mom but still takes care of and loves the child.

I was so tired of getting "Happy Fathers Day" messges sent to me, I turned my phone off....@ Pink: I saw a lot of those qualified posts, too. Mine was a simple "happy fathers day." :-) It is true that in May, I never saw a post that said, "Happy Mothers Day to the real mamas who stayed out the club and kept their legs closed and didn't chase the daddy out the house and leave me with grandmama." LOL!.

Happy Fathers Day, DV.
Geez, long sleeves on the day before the Solstice. You guys must be playing on the beach at Carmel Bay.
We’re baking in 94 degree Carolina heat, but we had a bountiful harvest out of the garden on Juneteenth.
Sista Nurse!!! Thank You!!
Brother Mak!
Enjoy the heat and Happy Juneteenth!

Oh yeah, and Happy Father's Day!!!
So true, Pink.
Saw this y'day and didn't wanna say nuthin till I'd gotten in touch with my Pops, so Happy Belated Papi day to all the Fathers on the blog.
Its a lovely picture!
Pink you got some friends - do you think people in the U.S have become conditioned to be cynical about Black Fatherhood that there's an assumption that 'absentee father' and 'single mother' are the default positions, unless otherwise stated? Nahhh, that can't be right!
Unfortunately KW, it's absolutely right and it's crazy. People think that when a black father is actually active and cares about his children he is going against the norm. And I could more accept that if that's what they were seeing but in a lot of cases it's not. My sister had up one of those statuses and our father took care of us until 3 years ago when he passed on. He was an excellent parent who lived to be a good father. And she now has a fiance who is adoring of their little girl. He's the reason that the little girl can't even eat the crap that these other kids are eating. I swear when I read it I wanted to slap the hell out of her.
I was so pissed at all those "qualified" posts celebrating father's day.
I can't imagine people doing the same thing for mother's day.
I was so tired of getting "Happy Fathers Day" messges sent to me, I turned my phone off....

LMAO @ that mother's day post! Stolen for my status next mother's day! LOL!
i'm sorry. i don't have anything insightful to say about father's day. i just wanted to say this is the sexiest site on the internet! i love smart black women!
Damn, Sasha, that was a cold pill to swallow.
My sons are the thing that keeps me going day to day. I can't IMAGINE not having them here with me. There is nothing that makes me more proud than coming home and hearing "DADDY DADDY DADDY!!!" It's like having my own fan club. :-)
Good posts Pink and Sasha. LMAO!
So, do kids send father's day cards to the food stamp office or what?
