While the U.S. is generally considered a highly religious nation, African-Americans are markedly more religious on a variety of measures than the U.S. population as a whole, including level of affiliation with a religion, attendance at religious services, frequency of prayer and religion's importance in life.
Compared with other racial and ethnic groups, African-Americans are among the most likely to report a formal religious affiliation, with fully 87% of African-Americans describing themselves as belonging to one religious group or another, according to the U.S. Religious Landscape Survey, conducted in 2007 by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life.

I used to attend a mostly-black church. Loved it. Very emotional, fabulous music, lots of joy.
I'm one of those peach toes, by the way, or whatever you call us.

ROTFLMMFBAO!!!!
I can see that too. Lord.
Is there a correlation between the high rate of religious affiliation and the suicidal out of wedlock birthrate?
You can find a correlation with anything if you look hard enough for one...
II,
Maybe your key word is "affiliation" rather than "devotion". Affiliation does not imply devotion and adherence to the tenets of the religion. Interesting point though.
Good point Doc.
I find it beyond fascinating that a group in which 87% describe themselves as religious have a something like 70% out-of-wedlock birth rate.
87% religious should mean lots more married couples.
"Is there a correlation between the high rate of religious affiliation and the suicidal out of wedlock birthrate?" II
Ummm ... that's interesting.
But aren't BIRTHrate and suicide oxymorons?
I mean isn't NoBIRTHrate ... married or unmarried ... more like suicide?
I think a 20 year old unmarried pregnant woman makes far more sense than a 40 year married childless woman.

I refer you to the silly video you've posted above about gay Black men as Exhibit A of the cultural suicide that occurs in the absence of a father.
"87% religious should mean lots more married couples."
not if what DMG says is true....which i happen to agree
That ole DeVil be perpetratin some memetic whoppers, don't he?
Dina, you know him better than most, what's wrong wit him? His blood sugar levels drop or something and he need some orange juice or a thick juicy hamsteak?
What?
...and blacks supported Obama by 95% of voting for im. You would think that number would have been lower since AA people are people of faith or religion. More so affiliation I think.
You know what's funny?
How cats have taken out of wedlock birthrates, and used that as proof that folks don't practice their religion?
So who at DV is sin free? Or is it just fornication that disqualifies you from Christianity?
Last time I checked, Islam, Judaism and Christianity were all filled with sinners. All of them ain't baby mommas and daddies, but they are still sinners.
I agree with DMG that a lot of folks are playing church, but y'all seem to be taking evidence of one sin and using that as proof of blatant hypocrisy in black folks. Yet not doing this for every other group who is sinning in a variety of ways.
Seems quite shady if you ask me.
